No conversation necessary. Nick will get out of jail and a family has lost their son. I apologize for attempting to defend Nicks actions. What he did was wrong, and i know he is sorry. There is never a need for senseless violence, bottom line.
Nicholas Crowdis is a waste of life and he has clearly made the choice that he thinks he has the right to take other's lives as well which unfortunately he has gotten away with. Serba has never been a a violent human being and Crowdis' plea of self-defense if the biggest pile of bull I've ever heard. I alos love how his little buddies on this page have made a million excuses for twhy the poor thing had the right to do what he did and how he's still a good person. HE'S WORTHLESS>>>PERIOD
I would like to say that I have seen and met Mike before. He was truly kind, and I don't know how someone can kill him. Everyone who lives in Northfield, or went to Norwich will miss him so very much. RIP Michael Serba.
What is this comment about Nick may have killed him, but not because he wanted to? That's pure crap. You don't beat on someone who's down, then stomp on their head, and claim self defense. What exactly was he planning on doing when he picked up that brick? If he was that scared he should have just run away. The fact that Mike died (who was actually making something of himself), while this murderer lives is insulting. Too bad we don't live in the U.S where he would have received proper punishment
For anyone who had ever met Mike, they understand how truly depressing this story is. I don't care what premeditated this event, or whether Nicholas Crowdis was a good person, he took another human beings life, someone who actually made a difference in this world. There was no justice in a sentence of manslaughter, this was a clear case or MURDER. You don't bash someone unconscious, then stomp on their head, and claim self-defense!! RIP Mike. You will always be remembered fondly.
hi my name is Dwight Mcfarland I am from Alberta and I am giving my condolenses to Mikes Family but I would Love to talk to them as I got Mikes heart and would like to tell them my story and to just talk to them so i hope to get in contact with them soon thanks
yeah, real intelligent comment. John Sim basically caused a chain reaction of events that destroyed two lives. Hope you enjoy your friend with little to no sence of reality.
You forget that there were two sides to this tragedy. Sims was at fault, but he wasn't fighting with himself. He didn't follow himself out of the bar with his friends. Im not blaming Micheal Serba, I am simply suggesting that he and his friends could have also been more mature about the situation, no?
WIthout Sim's apparant instigation, the whole situation would never have ignited into a fight. True Serba & his friends should have just walked away after the initial conflict, however there is no excuse whatsoever for the brutal aftermath that Crowdis took part in.
Crowdis, like all of his other crackhead buddies defending him on this page, are eternal losers who will never find success in their life. Instead of admitting that Crowdis did a terrible thing, they try to defend him for killing an innocent person.
Who are you to judge us. I am a recovering crackhead and in my 2nd year at the University of Toronto. I have a beautiful 5 year old daughter and am to be married this summer. I have a multitude of friends and associates, a high paying job and mounds of potential. I am successful. What have you got? I am not defending his actions, I am defending his character. What a person does is not who they are.
single and raising 2 daughters on her own now, one of them with an incurable disease, without Nick to help her. For those of you who are involved through association, on either side, my prayers go out to you. Those of you who know nothing more than what you saw on TV, take it from somwone who was in the courtroom during Nick's trial; nothing is as simple as it seems. -Mishayla
Nicholas Crowdis is my best friend and a beautiful person. None of you can say anything because you were not there. It is a senseless waste of life but Nick did not intend to hurt this guy. Which is why he was givin manslaughter and not murder. We friends from Lakeshore/ Mimico know that this was unfortunate and we, as well as Nick, feel horribly for the Serba family. Do not forget, though, that two people were involved. Nick's mother is
Interesting comment.. Either way, Crowdis must face punishment for this senseless act of violence. Some friend this "John Sim" character is. A blatent loser who destroyed two lives by his ignorant & thoughtless actions.
You fail to mention that Nicholas Crowdis was smoking crack that evening and was a reported drug addict. Perhaps it's not up to me to pass judgement, however I really don't believe that constitutes a "beautiful person".
So, just because someone is in a hopeless battle with the chains of drug addiction, said person is automatically a bad seed? Wrong. I knew Nick before he was messed up and as a matter of fact, I got messed up right along with him.
We both quit using drugs at the same time. He just slipped. Despite his drug use, Nick is an intelligent, thoughtful, and caring person. He is merely a statistic that unfortunately, like so many in Toronto, found solice from lifes hardships at the end of a crack pipe
Yes, drug addiction can be disaterous. My question to you.. When he slipped, did you at any point, try to get him help? That's what a true friend would do. As for him being intelligent, perhaps at one point he was, but I'm not buyin it. Getting involved in drugs is certainly not an "INTELLIGENT" decision. Anyone with intelligence would quickly turn away from drugs, and know better. I'm simply not buyin that statement you wrote, although when not high, yes he very well might be caring/thoughtful.
How was I supposed to help him when I was helping myself. A true friend knows when what they are doing will help or hinder. There was nothing that I could do. Also, addiction has nothing to do with intelligence when it has been part of your like from childhood. I know a crackhead with a PHD so knowing better doesn't always do the trick. Your closed minded and know naught of the way of the world.
No, I am nose closed minded at all. Addiction may not have anything to do with intelligence, but the decision prior to becoming addicted certainly does. An intelligent person would make an intelligent decision. Other than that, I agree with some points you brought up.
As for John Sim, well, maybe he was the one who really needed help. Had it not been for him, lives wouldn't be ruined.
Sims is a little bit of an idiot, ill give you that. He also is a friend of mine. You are right that he should have done more to help Nick instead of saving his own ass. When Nick and I started using, we were 15 and 12 years old, respectively. Our intelligence had yet to mature before this option was given to us by people who knew more than we. In effect,we were pressured into using and then enabled to continue using by the dire straits that our lives were in. After a couple years, we were stuck
A very tragic case, hopefully the defandant will be behind bars for a long time.
However, a lesson should be learned here. If you are confronted, or sucker punched DO NOT gather your friends and go looking for blood. Male bravado rarely prevails in situations like this. Walking away in this case would have been the right thing to do.
Shame on Lakeshoresfinest for not even bothering to get his facts straight before commenting on a tragic story that has brought so much pain to Michael Serba's family & friends.
Shame on the media for not accurately portraying the events of that night(Global News), and shame on the jury for buying Crowdis' self-defense plea. Hmmm, one person dies with massive injuries and the one who gets only manslaughter walks away without a scratch.
its weird how the mdeia can make someone look worthless and someone else a hero. self defense aint murder. eight vs 1 come on ??? what else could he have done
The agressor in this case was 1) waiting at a cash machine to sucker punch someone who took money out and 2) waited in a dark alley with a weapon. How is bashing in the head of a *SINGLE* unarmed person "self defense"? Mike was *ahead* of the group by about 20 feet when he was beaten.
Also, this person was "known to police", as in he had been released at 11am the Friday morning immediately before on his own recognizance awaiting trial on assault and robbery charges.
Lakeshoresfinest you clearly don't know anything about law. Killing an unarmed person can never be self-defense, and you have to be very illogical to think that a person who feels threatened has the right to kill anybody who they feel threatened by. In this case, there was no threat and Crowdis was completely in the wrong. Not only was Crowdis' sentence way too light, but his friend John sim should also have been charged for starting this whole thing. I guess he probably took a deal.
boombarass, you clearly know nothing of the law. killing a person when you have a legitimate reason to believe that he/she will cause you grievous bodily harm or death, with or without a weapon, is the discription of self defence
Well, considering that my informed, educated opinion is in agreement with the law, I would say it is you that knows nothing about the law. As well, you were friends with this kid, so your opinion is clearly biased. And don't tell me it was self-defense and that is why it was only manslaughter, becaue then you really know nothing about the law. If a person was found to be acting in self-defense, then they are not found guilty of manslaughter, as this crackhead Crowdis was.
You don't have to be rude about his affliction with drugs, he is a human being and regardless of his transgressions, he is serving the time as deemed appropriate by a court of law. Of course, Nick was at fault; you get the wrong idea if you think that I am defending his actions. Violence in any case, does not solve anything. Also, seeing as I have spent a large chunk of my life behind bars, I am well aware of the law. Nick killed him, but not because he wanted to.
