i love this city i went there 10 yrs agoo Maybe going nxt year n it is expensive i live in texas n a nicee house here with a 2nd floor n pool will cost like $250,000 which there will be just the small house with the basement n the 3rd floor....

Actually I think you misunderstood SwampAshHSS' comment. Because the Chicago Metro-Area is so large (many consider most of northern Illinois, northwestern Indiana, and parts of Wisconsin including Milwaukee to be apart of the greater chicago metro area (greater chicago area) since all of these area are basically dependent on it as the Midwest's economic center. Through, it was most likely a joke. (chicago is so large that all other cities near it are suburbs)ssususuburbs.

Last april i visited Chicago with my dad because i had been wanting to go there for years. He thought it was just gonna be a little nicer than toronto but he was blown away. I definitley think one of the reasons is because millenium park. From there you can see the skyline, the lake and are in a museum almost, of modern art. My cousin also said that he was surprised how big chicago is, and that it made toronto seem small.

Gotta love Traffic on the magnificent mile. For some reason I always get honked at if I don't go into the intersection and block it when I see the cars in front of me aren't moving.

Not really. The mass transit system is great, but the high cost of living and outrageous housing prices knock it down a few spots.

For some, the housing might be expensive, some find it cheap - it all depends on what you consider expensive.

Normally the more expensive a place is, the better it is (hence why it is expensive).

Well, cheap compared to New York, obviously...but "cheap" studio apts. NEAR downtown in Chicago are at least $150-200k. That's more than many middle-class peole pay for whole houses in midwestern states. As for the high cost of living, a parking spot alone in a condo can run $10k easily while simple things like parking downtown can cost you $15-20/day. That's a lot.I'm not 100% bashing Chicago b/c it has a lot to offer but for many jobs, the payscale just doesn't match the cost of living enough.

LOL. I've checked out the prices, they are very reasonable. Parking???? I'm in London and over here we have a 'congestion charge' of upto $50/day + parking (another $20+/day) and London isn't even half a nice as chicago. And as for pay to living cost ratios... you should see what its like in England. You guys are lucky!

Just because it's cheaper than England doesn't mean it's cheap. Geez. What planet are you guys from? Not everyone makes $50k/annually and WANTS to spend thousands on rent and parking every month. I'll say it again...Chicago is NICE in many ways but it overpriced for what you get. The best thing it has going for it is the mass transit system because otherwise people couldn't even afford to get to and from work.

you're right Chicago is pretty expensive, I lived there 15 years and moved from there to Puerto Rico 7 years ago and I can't believe how expensive things have gotten in Chicago. The lowest price you will pay for an apartment with 1 bedroom is $700, people pay that much here in PR to rent a HOUSE..a HOUSE!! with 3 or 4 bedrooms with a yard. I miss Chicago it's a wonderful place to live but if I were to go back there now I'd go broke.
