OK, the laser does work but at what cost? This is probably a solid state laser firing several kilowatts. Big, heavy, and expensive. Can we stop wasting money on toys for the amusement of the press and actually make something the troops can use?

LASERs do not release any radiation, unless, of course, what you're shooting at is radioactive. A LASER is an extremely concentrated, coherent beam of light.

MASERs are basically the same principle, but use microwaves.

when trying to kill american occupiers in my country i am always trying to find high, open spots to place my explosives! ya know, on top of high rocks or highly visible line-of-site areas where a laser could easily penetrate them.

Putting down that C4 means you have to get next to it, this you can be at the horizon line.

Laser is reusable, overall lighter to carry than enough c4 to destroy the same number of IEDs, laser is more accurate and doesn't involve having to walk up to the IED to place and arm the C4.

@JD2005 you do realize that the Laser Avenger that there showing is mounted on a Humvee not carried by a soldier, although it is a safer way to dispose of IEDs if you can find them that is.

Maybe mounted on a humvee right now, but technology gets smaller as it is refined. In any case, still lighter (and safer for that matter) than a humvee full of explosives.
