i have the Arc S atm, I like iPhone's stability, keyboard and simplicity. But the Arc S does so much more and carries out tasks so much faster. Within a month of owning it, I downloaded over 100 apps/games - and how much did it cost me... NOTHING! It was all FREE! The only thing the Arc S lacks is a Dual core processor, a front camera and a larger internal memory capacity. If it just had that, it would of been the worlds ULTIMATE Phone!
just for general information... iPhone 4S got EXACTLY the same Sony Exmor-R Camera sensor the Arc and Arc S have also... and with further Firmware Updates the Arc Camera went also better so in the end 4S and Arc/S are nearly on the same Quality level but iPhone 4S has not that good noise reduction and has generally more noise also in daylight pictures
I didn't understand one thing and it really bothered me during the whole video: he switched the position of the iPhone and Arc video and picture. When he showed the video: iPhone was on the left and Arc on the right, and when he showed the photos, he switched places: iPhone was on the right and Arc on the left... I know this has nth to do with the preformances and the quality of camera, but it really bothered me. I'm always overanalysing, so: "Why would he do that?"
Most of the cellphones camera cant compete with the digital camera we use.. But xperia Arc surprised me..And the result it gives even in bad light..Just great..If one is Lookin for a phone with a great camera..Go for arc! Iphone is a chocolate Bar! lol
@rensvanderveen megapixels mean how big a photo can be, most people dont use resolutions bigger than what a 5 megapixel can give so it doesnt really matter.
The 13, 14 megapixel SLR cameras are what professionals use because they need the best possible quality.
In comparison, 5 megs are not as powerful as 8, obviously. The only reason people take those silly 5 megs seriously is because it's Apple. There may be an iPhone 4S, but that's not fair. Besides, my sis has a Galaxy-S II and it mighty owns that crappy iphone. I'm not a fanboy, but in comparison it's simply true.

Well it's pretty obvious that SE Arc wins here. Image stability & shooting in low light environment are the most important features for any camera. Regarding iPhone's better color & saturation, well these 2 are pretty obvious in the video but they are not that important 'coz they can be adjusted easily using any image editing program like Photoshop or ACDsee. I've been using SE for yrs & so far no phone can beat its camera, my personal phone is SE Satio with 12.1MP & I love it. thanks Blunty3000

Im a photographer and I like better how the iPhone4 renders the video... yes its a bit more contrasty, sharp, and the lovely filmatic look. (the only scene I liked better on the Arc, was the one of the tortoise, it got really good lighting and sharpness).
On the Photo side, both are quite good, one excels better at one thing and the other excels in other things.
To be fair we should be comparing Arc with iPhone4s don't you think?

Myself I was a Sony Ericsson "k750i" user (first 2mpx cam), was the first in my country to get it back in 2005? it still up and running (though as an alarm clock) :P I had it as main phone until last year! thats over 5 years!

I have to agree about the Nokia N8 being the best phone for pictures, it has a 1/1.8" sensor, which is well over twice as large as that in the iphone and bigger than many compact camera sensors, as well as a xenon flash of course.

@istuddd Because you are looking at a youtube video. The video itself is 720p (0.9 MP). Then, both images are scaled down to about 0.3 - 0.4 MP to compare them side by side in this 'small' video frame. To compare them in full scale quality, take a closer look at the 100% crops in the end of the video.

iPhone surprisingly smashed the arc in this , I mean look at the colour and detail the iPhone is producing vs the arc.. iPhone has richer colours, and HDR definitely showed more detail than exmore R in the images.

There is no phone that can beat it yet and i works a lot in photography and I can assure you the Iphone is not currently the most popular mobile phone for photography in the world right now as you say. Seems the guy does not have a clue about picture quality or video quality, just looks at sales figures which is fine but does not mean everybody is happy with what they have purchased :-) that's another story !
My mate has the iphone 4 and keeps boasting hows it's better than my x10 but my new arc arrives on tuesday which will give his iphone a run for his money (which if i might add is ridiculously overpriced, I mean come on £500 really and just £399 for the Arc).

@istuddd Because you are looking at a youtube video. The video itself is 720p (0.9 MP). Then, both images are scaled down to about 0.3 - 0.4 MP to compare them side by side in this 'small' video frame. To compare them in full scale quality, take a closer look at the 100% crops in the end of the video.

iPhone surprisingly smashed the arc in this , I mean look at the colour and detail the iPhone is producing vs the arc.. iPhone has richer colours, and HDR definitely showed more detail than exmore R in the images.

I have an Xperia X10, and some pictures taken from my cell phone are much better than the iPhone 4. If the place is dark the pictures are better on iphone

I'm Afraid to differ with you in all of what you say up to point O:40 the best and more used video and photo phone is the Nokia N8. There is no phone that can beat it yet and i works a lot in photography and I can assure you the Iphone is not currently the most popular mobile phone for photography in the world right now as you say. I think you need to look in flickr and look up photos taken with Nokia N8. You will be surprised.

The iPhone4 is WILDLY more popular, this is a FACT, backed up by EVIDENCE...even when you restrict the search to NOKIA ONLY the N8 is BEHIND the Nokia N95, E71 & 5800. You can check for yourself using flickr's own tracking charts on their "camera finder" page. Noob.

@Blunty3000 Hi Noob, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The search in Flickr as you say is for youngsters who know very little about video. I work with it every day. These phones are popular as society makes them so and people follow. If you put a video from HTC, iPhone 4 etc in Final cut Studio and evaluate the quality the N8 Wins. People go with what the cell phone companies give out to get new contracts or it has Froyo etc. The tech side is not well understood NOOB

If you take a photo with any of the phones you have suggested and blow them up to 100% they look terrible, bad contrast, faded colours, noise on image, blurred the list goes on. I have been into photography for a living for years, THATS why I got one. Now if you want to type in to youtube "Nokia N8 The Commuter" you will see a film made using these N8's. Can a Fan Boy iphone do that ? Of course not.

I love my iphone 4 but at the start the pictures that claim to be taken and edited from the iphone 4 arent from an iphone 4, dont lie to people about it, its a great phone but the camera isnt that good to get professional pictures

@123randomstuff try telling that to Blunty3000 according to him the iPhone is way better than the Nokia N8. the iphone may sell more but no way is N8 behind the N95, E71 & 5800 all of which I have had and tested as a photographer in adobe photoshop CS3. Seems the guy does not have a clue about picture quality or video quality, just looks at sales figures which is fine but does not mean everybody is happy with what they have purchased :-) that's another story !

My mate has the iphone 4 and keeps boasting hows it's better than my x10 but my new arc arrives on tuesday which will give his iphone a run for his money (which if i might add is ridiculously overpriced, I mean come on £500 really and just £399 for the Arc).
