Pat Robertson was only speculating. It was a very ignorant, out-of-line and thoughtless statement to make, but it was not concrete. He wasn't stating the case as if the Haiti earthquake was the absolute consequence of a deal with the devil, he was suggesting a possible reason for the suffering experienced by the Haitians over the last two centuries. We all make mistakes, and Pat let his tongue get away with him here.

The academic journal, Stockholm Review of Latin American Studies, Issue No 4, March 2009 in their research article on Voodoo and Haiti, mentioned quite in-depth of the alleged pact with the devil done by Haitian leaders before their revolution against their French colonial masters. It seems Voodoo ceremony was involved. Voodoo was also made an official religion in Haiti in 2003.
