He doesn't need to go frame by frame. Just put some white dot on his finger and track it right. What he could do is to raise the emission rate of the particles. When it develops some speed, you can see them spreading apart. But nice video, nice vintage look and great music.

his motion tracking is not perfect u can see the light ball lags a lil

u can also do this by keyframing every frame

that method is much more effective and looks realistic.... but its frustrating to go through every frame
