What a haunting, yet wistful song. Clearly Battleship Hill refers to the Gallipoli campaign of WWI and yet there is something timeless and placeless about it too. A very human song full of sorrow and yet there is this realization contained within that leaves me speechless and sad yet manic and hopeful. Hard to explain.True genius here. Probably the best song dealing with war I have ever heard imho.

Being new to PJ Harvey I am unsure about the controversy her work appears to provoke.

Letengland shake is no doubt a highly original piece of work and it is good to see the tradition of poetic material in modern music is recognised by her achievement.

However, pop music it is not! Much of the praise and criticism seems to miss the point that it may be generated only as a result of questionable categorization leading to misunderstandings as to what this form of art is and is not.
