  • The dude is fast , but I have no interest in being a fast player .

  • Don't believe me? Search for "Frost of 1349 (Live in Baltimore)"

  • It's kinda funny but...In the song Celestial Deconstruction by 1349, starting at the 3 minute mark in the song, Frost (their drummer) plays the equivalent of more than 1000 strokes per minute, for about a minute and a half without stopping. And he doesn't use some weak finger technique, he mostly uses his wrists.

  • To end the Joey Jordison dispute, yes he is a fast drummer, yes hes pretty good, but very far away from being the best very far

  • actually drumming starts at 1:30

  • Why does everyone talk about joey jordison? i've been watching youtube drumming videos everyday for about 3 years and never watched 1 joey jordison video, oh wait, I did watch 1, but 1. I've watched like 20 george kollias videos and he dominates almost every other drummer. Since I haven't seen EVERY drummer, I can't say who the best is, but my vote is for george kollias as the king of drumming.

  • i got a question how in the hell is he going so fast without moving his hands really

  • @doughboy8000 It's all in the fingers. If you use smaller muscles to play faster, you don't get exhausted as quickly. I can't play that fast with my left hand in traditional grip, but as for the right hand (or both with match grip) it's as if you were waving goodbye to someone without moving your whole hand. Just move your fingers and it's like closing your hand. Or making a fist, but don't close your hand quite as tightly. Hope this helps you with your own playing!

  • @doughboy8000 Just look up blast beat lesson, same principles.

  • Verdi is the man

  • horrible posture. haha good job!!!

  • Rofl, Hacker :p ya i am a little three year old in posting it but man....tht's pretty fast and then he looks up and keeps talking and going

  • good

  • speedhack :)

  • This Is Amazing ;-))

  • Hooray ankaradowns. You nailed it. I'm so tired of these self righteous jackasses like rjones6801 who try to portray this speed drumming game as something else because of their anger about the petty frustrations in their own lives. It's like Matt Smith says, "It's just a sport to have fun with. Get over it."

  • Joey is good and this guy is good (if you check out his other vids). It's all a matter of taste and style. And who the fuck cares who's faster? It's like a bigger dick competition with you people. Someday, when you graduate from high school you might realize that it doesn't really matter. It's not about speed, it's about syle. To each his own I suppose.

  • Actually rjones6801 has no idea what this competition is to anyone but himself, namely something that gets others the attention he wishes he had. None of these top WFD guys sees this stuff as anything but a fun sport. All the yacking comes from drummers who are unskilled at proper technique and always feel like they're on the outside looking in. The comp is a reward for the chops required to gain your precious style.

Got it now? Or do you want me to break down in single syllables for you.

  • Actually, you're mostly right. I was angry cause so many people were dissin this guy's video when he's really good. I was just making the point that anyone can be fast, but not everyone has real talent - or what I referred to as "style." You're right, it's just a sport. I wasn't commenting on the video. I was basically REPLYING to all the people arguing that Joey Jordison is faster than this guy (when really, it doesn't matter). I can see how you'd take it the wrong way though.

  • um accuatlly Mike Mangini holds this record now.

    and a few others.

and for all you Joey Jordison lovers.

Art Verdi and Mike Mangini would kill Joey in a competition.

  • Isn't that the ironic? He exhibits more skill than Joey Jordison by merely hitting a snare drum!

  • Joey Jordison is overrated. I don't know why everyone seems to think he's on top of the metal drumming world. He's probably the most famous, but certainly not the best. As for saying this guy is slow, I believe he was the former world record holder for the most beats in a minute, with i think 1100 beats.

  • i agree joey is overrated but i have to give him credit for doing dci

  • Wow

this guy is The Fastest Drummer in the WORLD

he has proven it and in the Guinness world book of Records

and Obviously Joey Jordison is smart enough to challenge Art because he would lose like no other

  • looks like he's not even moving he hands!

  • Wow that fat guy managed to eclipse your light. Haha

  • speed is nice....

but i cant say i would actually wanna be that fast... u gotta draw the line between music and whats not. i respect him for all he's worth, i think its fantastic what hes achieved. but personally i dont think being that fast achieves anything

  • I love how vivixdragon calls someone retarded, and can't even spell the word. His mom must be so proud.

  • Yeah really vivixdragon. The kid was even being respectful. How old are you, 5? I think what you need to do is get a personality and learn to play before droppin' idiot smack on Mr. Smith. Man youtube gets em all.

    Great video Art.

  • I've said it a million times, only youtube gives somebody like vivixdragon a forum to talk stupid. The kid you're slamming already has a career in music. You?

  • Well vivixdragon, I think the only absurd person here is you, trying to call out Msmith, one of the top young drummers. The kid made good points. Go try to do what he has already done then get an opinion.

  • To show the other side dawg (no offense because I don't know how you play) lately I've seen more overemphasis on others with another POV blasting technique, when you need both it and groove to be musical. I hear a lot of nonmusical drummers who try to emphasize groove with no chops, then try to preach to others without watching their own back yard (not you). Musicality swings both ways.

  • I agree with you! Playing a deep groove requires a lot of chops...musical, listening chops. I've played with Chuck Berry, Joe Henderson, John Abercrombie, and luckily many others. None of them hired me for speed! But I still dig speed!! Just not for it's own sake.

  • It's interesting, and so is juggling, tightrope walking, and standing on your head for three hours...but is it music? He's probably a fine drummer with an unusual gift of speed...and there are great drummers who don't play nearly as fast...to name a few: Steve Gadd, Billy Higgins, Ringo Starr.

  • The bad news is that this metric/technology thing applies to all facets of music and can usually be seen when guys play Giant Steps.

  • ringo starr..........riiiighhhhhht. Art Verdi is quick to be sure - in fact, that's why he is famous - but he is also a good drummer. he knows his stuff. But just becuase someone like ringo played for a band like th beatles, doen't make him good. he was infact really simplistic and basic. but that's just my opinion

  • I don't hear Ringo as simplistic but rather as the perfect drummer for that band at that time, and for that reason I think he was a very good drummer. My point is that there are other important values in music besides extreme speed. Lately I have seen an overemphasis on technique for it's own sake and not enough on musicallity. That is the only point I am trying to make. Have a good one...I'm off to practice my singles!

  • Not gonna disagree on that post because I agree with you. Of course, people version os "musicality" varies widley - for me it is Danny Carey, but that's me. I also suppose your right about Ringo for the band and time though. I just didn't think of it in that context

  • Hell ya, I love the Beatles but is not the best drumer is the world ( his band made some of the best music in the world)

  • He didn't use gods name in vain, Jesus Christ isn't god. Dudes, just calm down, and find a drum set, and try to play as fast as this dude.

  • Canman87- cool it with the heavy handed response! It is not your fault that you accidentially upset someone by using Gods name in vain. Just don't be suprised, thats all. I myself have beliefs but understand how society works and know that it is silly to always get pissed off by people preaching their religious beliefs out loud. You offended him, and he then probably offended you. Then you go and give him stick!!! Well it is upto you, just go easy next time- cheers!

  • wu hay!! fast bugger

  • hes got a boner lo fucking l

  • dude hes not even pulling a drum face or moving his hands!!! this dude is insane!!

  • makes sense not to practice so loud, eh?

  • lol!

  • wow i cant even go that fast using buzz... lol jk

  • Now THAT's control. Jesus Christ.

  • why Jesus Christ at the end?? you really are someone with nolive..

  • And what brings you to this conclusion, assfuck? Just because I type in the name a lot of people consider to be "holy" (me not being one of them), you make the assertion that I have no life? Fuck off.

You, sir, have no life. I say this because you take the time to criticize me about something as trivial as this. Not everyone in the world shares your point of view on everything, so stop acting like there is some set of universally excepted ethics and mind your own GODdamn business.

  • are you fucking retardted? just stfu and for jesus' sake stop being such a douche bag.BITCH...god...

  • someone needs to get him in a death metal band, the blast beats would be insane!!!

  • if only he played death metal, he would be able to do some crazy blast beats. wonder how he got so fast...

  • practise makes perfict

  • i agree with HollowTipZ

  • It would be better if we could actuly see the display during or after he was done. And he was spending too much time on explaining how it works (like Mojo-jojo)

  • He would be an awesome paintball player

  • wtf are you!!!!an alien?!?what else?!

  • Whatafuck!

  • god dam. he probably wasnt even trying. somebody needs to get him in a black metal band
