  • Phantom Mellos :)

  • It's all about the trumpets!!

  • ...i wanna play teh mellophone :( lol.

  • why cant dci be on espn again!

  • EUUUUUPHS

  • @rockstarduh5 hahahaha im glad im not the only one xD

  • So true :P Go Euphs! <3

  • aww... they didn't show Nick on the contra... (My highschool director now =)

  • I just said "hut" at 2:13. Wow..

  • All these fellow instrumentalists hatin' on trumpets.... well, lemme tell you, I'm my corps' lead, and I'm modest as hell.

    ... Wait.

  • Where the fuck are the trombones?

  • @CaucasianGentleman drum corps don't march trombones. they use euphoniums instead. euphoniums have a richer sound thean trombones.

  • @CaucasianGentleman Trombones aren't allowed in DCI.

  • How many trumpet players does it take to screw in a light bulb? 4. 1 to do it and 3 to say they couldve done it better.

    EUPHONIUMS RULE!!!!

  • @throwedmayne How many Euphonium players does it take to screw in a lightbulb? 4. 1 to screw it in, and the other 3 to try and explain what a euphonium is. (Also a low brass guy myself!) :D

  • I see very few contradictions to the personalities of the people who play the instrument, this was very funny.

  • There need to be more female tuba players....I feel so alone!! lol.

  • @neko1cat1kirara there are two female contra players in the Blue Devils hornline this year.

  • I'm a trumpet player, but by the description in the video, I really should be a mello xD

  • You could build a bridge on Phantom's Horn line sound. I've always loved how they can put the entire home side on their ass in mere seconds.

  • Damn that was a nice snap by the euph...

  • EUPHS!!!! (well, lets face it, all brass kicks ass!)

  • ALL HAIL EUPHOS!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol i once talked to one of our more expirienced trumpet players (had a huge ego typical of all trumpets) he said he wanted to march contrabass. He couldn't have weighed more than 110 pounds... i said you understand you would never be able to hold that thing up at set....

  • us baritones. we just know:) lol

  • Trumpet players= BIGGEST EGOS I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. The day I meet a trumpet performer without an ego, is the day the Browns win the super Bowl.

  • MELLOPHONES! :D WOOOOO!!!!!

  • MELLOPHONES FTW!!!! <3

  • contra players have the most strength? They have no euphonium arm strength recognition

  • @limegut I heard that. BD didn't call their Euphonium players "Monster men" back in the day for no reason. I played Lead bari for 6 seasons, damned if I'd pick up one of those beasts, even though I AM a Euphonium player, LOL. All due respect to any beasts out there who carry them.

  • Lol euphoniums get the porno music at the end..

  • @lowonthefoodchain Euphonium players get more ass than a toilet seat.

  • yeah go euphoniums!!!

  • you know there has to be a good reason they asked Phantom to do this documentary

  • Ayyye I'm wit trumpets all day! But lets be real. Woodwinds suck and brass is king!!! Thats why there arent any woodwinds in DCI!

  • @uubboy14 You're ignorant.

  • @avenged7xguitar thanks man! I appreciate it

  • @uubboy14 lol you must be a woodwind player

  • Sooooo rite!! I play trumpet and I must say I can be pretty egotistical but I try to keep it on the low. But who can blame me? I can scream!!!!

  • @uubboy14 We Lead Baris BITD could wail on three ledger line E-s all day on the G Horns- we can wail too. ;)

  • yup...us tubas are...strange

  • YEA MELLOS!!!!!

  • Mellophones ftw!!!! :D deffinantly the coolest section and bus in my band!!!

  • mellos are... mellow. probably the best way to describe them, really. :)

  • haha you know trumpet player egos are big whenever we tell people that our egos are bigger than everyone else's.

  • how do trumpet players commit suicide? they climb up their egos and jump off

  • @geekofband007 I play trumpet and that is so true... and hilarious at the same time.

  • @geekofband007

Wanna know the secret trumpet handshake?

Shake someones hand and say "Hi, I'm better than you."

  • whtas with the dog tags?

  • @heybulldog90 In phantom regiment they issue 2 dog tags for everyone. And when they age out, they all meet in the middle of the championships field (whether they still march for phantom or for a different corp or not all) and put one of their dog tags in the middle of the field and walk off.

  • i play trumpet! :D enough said! haha but i definitely respect all instruments in the corp! 1 band! 1 sound!

  • i love being strange

  • 2. and its really awesome just that if you listen around a band you dont hear the contras complaining. After 12 hours we get up and do it all again the next day. Im very very proud of being a tuba player.

  • 1. Yeah go tuba. Gotta say its true. At least in my band we're always there for each other. Just a bunch of best buds who work their ass off to make a nice bass line. I know that in my band we are really there for each other and we could call each other at any time if we're in season or not if we're in a spot. Just a real tight section. Gotta say tho. Out of all the sections we are the most laid back when not playing. We love what we do but we know to put it down and just have fun sometimes.

  • They can all get the fuck cuz they didnt have Trombones

  • JD Shaw came to my school one time.

He was the coolest guest ever.

  • descriptions of attitudes are sooo accurate! :D

  • plume fail at 3:11 !! hahahha

  • O:37 what song is that? it's been bothering me for days

  • Trumpet are like pirates, we kill at high C's XD

  • So the Contras are the ginormous horns?

  • I agree that us euphoniums just sit back and know it. And im a bit surprised ther wasnt a flugelhorn. Fluges are awesome. But i must say, Low brass power.

  • I agree but baritone is the best

  • crown used to be so lame until the past few years

  • @tagger3369 False.

  • I do agree that trumpet plaiers are cocky but the drumline is a thouasand more times cocky

  • Gotta love being a brassman...

  • Haha i like that alot!! Whats so funny is that is so true all of are trumpets including me do have an ego and all the other instuments are true!!

  • This video makes me laugh because all of the personalities that they describe about each instrument are so true. I play the euphonium and I feel exactly like that guy does. "We just know"! So true

  • Shoutout to the euphoniums!

  • Wait so Phantom doesn't use baritones?

  • They do, baritones are marching instruments, euphonium is generally a concert instrument. The names are interchangable, valves and tone is really what seperates the two. I play baritone/euphonium, it's heavy and we have to push alot of air. But, let's not forget, marching band makes it count and it is fun!

  • But they convert the concert instrument into a marching horn. its twice as bigger than the marching baritone and has the full Non compensating sound of a standard concert euphonium. Most corps have a split section, 1st baris, 2ed baris, then Euphs.

  • @Blue21Films

they are NOT interchangeable. ther r concert baris AND marching baris. there are also concert euphs AND marching euphs. 4 different horns. most corps that have enough low end will have some on euph n some on bari. slightly different voice. the euphs r darker and beefier.

  • Ummmm, really? Euphs are freaking huge compared to baritones. Do some research

  • @sagoland93 Apparently they're trying baritones out for this year. Idk...that's just what an auditionee told me.

  • You can't really understand it until you've experienced it. Either way, hornline ftw. (Nothing against drumline, you guys are sick)

  • its amazing how in a drum corps, the contra players do a horns up faster than my high school. lol complete ownage for brass instruments in dci

  • Drumline wins!

  • JessOnTheRun,

omg, are you kidding me--i usually dont comment on jerks, but stop making drummers look bad!

  • are they doing it as a job? or they are all teenagers?...cause my band is all teens and student

  • In DCI World Class most members are between the ages of 15-21(22 if birthday is after June 1) 21 being the age-out age.The performers have to pay usually between $1800-$2100 maybe less or more for an amazing experience called Drum and Bugle Corps. :)

  • I believe that DCI is college students.

  • No. Not a job. this all made up of kids 16-17 ish to 21.

  • i play clarinet. :(

im sad i can't play in DCI unless i learn a new instrument. maybe i'll join colorguard.

    i always wanted to.

  • It's all about the ass grabbing, prank playing contras.

  • i play trombone but im gonna learn to play euphonium so i can go into a drum corps.

  • Learn baritone, it's lighter. lol

  • I know for some corps I.E Crown they'll allow you to audition on trombone. I play trombone but march baritone.

  • 2:51-3:03 is 120% true

  • Low Brass is King. TUBA!!!!!!!

  • haha pun

  • hahaha

"were all a bit strange really..."

lol nice choice of song for contras

  • Is that guy english?

  • I don't see why everyone's so freaked out that they left out baritones. I mean there's not THAT much of a difference between them and euphoniums to make them a totally new section. They basically cover the baritone personality by explaining the euphonium personalities. I wasn't angry at all and I play the baritone/euphonium.

  • Mainly because Phantom only marches Euphonium. There aren't any baritones there to ask what they're like.

  • I am not for sure what I play in marching band now. My directors call it a baritone, but it looks nothing like the baritones that some cores have. My school only buys Yamaha. Would that be the reason?

  • They might be using a concert horn.

  • baritones?

  • low brass, kicks ass

  • except when their slow brass

  • 2:43 - 2:48 Amen!

  • i feel the bra who play euphonium , we dont need to say anything !

  • tubas n baritones r top

  • :58 wat song is dat?

  • best hornline in DCI

  • Euphoniums and contras are the best sections, when it comes down to it regiment are the best.

  • Wow, the tuba is incredibly accurate.

  • Trumpets have big egos. . . understatement of the year! Euphonium love!

  • Yeah, trumpets and snares are usually most cocky...but most badass.

  • haha thats funny cuz im a snare drummer and i play trumpet on the side haha

  • lol i can relate i play mellophone!

  • Uh, no. that is mellophones.

  • Euphs are beast. our mellos are clowns, they are everything but mello.

  • hey wat brand of contras does this corps use?

  • At this time, Phantom played Kings. Now they play the Jupiter line.

  • aww man.. Trombones? They are the best : (

  • Theres no trombones in Drum Corps, because its a slide instrument. Drum corps is just valved brass and drums, no trombones or woodwinds.

Oh yes, the mellophone definetly says the personality of it's player. We're Mellow. haha I'm so laid back and Mello is my favorite instrument.

  • Yeah, trombones are the best, even though it's not a bugle. But there are a lot of trombone players who march euph/bari in DCI.

I think Carolina Crown even lets you audition on trombone.

  • trombones and Euphonium/baritones are beast

  • phantom regiment are awesome.

  • Come to think of it its not really a "drum and bugle corps" now since most corps play Bb. Think the more technical name it "drum and Bb corps". eh.. maybe im just crazy

  • haha its is :p

i laughed so hard at the contras guy saying "we're a bit strange"

because its it is SO true lololol

  • So many huge egos flying around, its funny because its all true.

  • there are no baritones or trombones, only Euphonium because they want a deep low sound if you hear a chord progression of them it's sound really big and awesome!

  • also the fact that a trombone is not a bugle. No Corps have trombones. lol

  • There are no Trombones too in a drum corp since we're not a bugle instrument if that makes you feel any better. lol :/

  • there are no woodwinds in drum corps...

  • did i miss it, or did they leave out the baritones?

  • euphoniums are baritones

  • back then they only marched euphs

  • Epic fail....

  • You're an epic fail!

  • LOL the music playing in the background when they talk about the tuba section's persolnality is funny.

  • haha love it, so true for most bands its scary. when someone is in band i can usually tell what they played by talking to them for a bit.

  • "trumpet players have a bit of an ego" lolz

"were provably alot mellower" hehe. funny

  • haha you are what you play.

    :D

  • Hey everyone i kno dis is a weird request but, im a saxophone player and ive been one for the past 6 years so im pretty good, but for the last couple years i've been captivated by Brass instruments. I dnt intend on quitting sax, but lately ive been considering learning how to play the trumpet. The only thing is i hope its not to late for me. and its a pretty big jump from sax to trumpet. Id appreciate any tips or words of advise. or even jus words of encouragement. thanx

  • Trumpet is for me a very fun instrument to play but it is a decision totally up to you maybe you want to try all of the brass instruments and see which one appeals to you the most

  • well i will tell you firsthand, when you play the trumpet first and you KNOW HOW TO PLAY IT WELL, you can go down the brass spectrum with little difficulty. learn the highest to learn the lowest. watch the pitchiness of those damn mellos lol but baritone/euphonium isnt bad at all after trumpet- good luck! you won't regret it

  • I agree. I play trumpet in my high school band,I am pretty good at it, marched corps going into my senior year of high school. I decided to pick up Baritone for the other concert band, and it really is quite easy to pick up. I went from not knowing how to read bass clef or ever playing it one day, literally a week later I could read and play any music people gave to me.

Moral of the story: Nicebrass21 is a genius.

  • which corps did you march in?

  • Academy last year. Auditions this weekend for next year.

  • Mellophone is definitely the hardest marching brass instrument to learn, but I would go with that. In a marching band the saxophones and mellophones carry the alto voice of the band, so if you want the same type of music I would choose that.

  • maybe, because you have to learn a different key but i would say contra is the hardest, 40 lbs, every half note you use up your complete lung capacity of air) try playing as loud & low as possible & see how long you can play

  • why is the mellophone the hardest?

  • The Partials are only a third away from each other and there are so many alternative fingerings for things, so if you accidentally miss a partial you could all the wrong notes! In other words, you have to have a really good ear to play it.

  • oh gotcha...i am interested in playing mellophone, and i do have a good ear. but your very right!:D

    what do you play?

  • Oh me? mellophone, thanks for asking :)

  • The mellophones usually have the fast as hell runs.. There music is usually fast

  • Ikr. how come?

  • I love how the personalities are the same even in my little high school band.

Trumpets do get all the cool parts, but that's just because we play them better.

And mellophones (marching horns in my band) have a vibe that's different from everyone else.

And tubas in general are just strange. You'd have to be crazy to carry that much weight on one shoulder.

  • My god drum corps with one valve, oh no 2 valves, oh wait now 3?!?!?!? OMFG it's the end of the world!!!! You mean the drumline doesn't march up and down the 50 anymore?!?!?

Dude everything evolves. Just like our jobs as military musicians (going off of your name). We no longer move troops from one location to another, we now provide them entertainment.

  • Yes I know they still use 2-valve bugles. A couple who marched there are in my current DCA corps and one more is in my Army band. But you can not compare the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps to DCI or DCA, they are 2 completely different beasts. However, knowing the reasons why they switched from G to Bb, I believe it was the right move. Now don't even get me started on that amplification bullshit they got going on.

  • But your same argument applied to everyone else's argument when they added a valve (because now they aren't technically bugles, they are now a valved instrument), then 2 valves and 3 valves, and then finally to Bb.

  • I know an former Marine turned Army Guard guy, named Randy Huntley. He is with the Army Band here at the Reserve Center at Bolling, AFB, right outside of WashDC. Like I mentioned before, Bb horns are the problem that I have with DCI now.Yeah,I heard about all the cost issues with keeping the G horns, but now it sounds like I am at a college football game with a talented marching band.Valve numbers aside, G power was where it was at, for me. My last DCI trip is to Atlanta this wkend. No mas.

  • wow. i thought i was the only one who thought that the different sections had different personalities. i'm SO glad to hear that crown feels the same way. if only i could play/march well enough... <3

  • Contras baby! Wooo!

  • EUPHS!!!

  • Gotta love PR's emphasis on the "meat and potatoes" of their corps.

EUPHS is where it's at, baby!

  • Oh wow, that is eerily accurate. Each section really does have their own personality. Euphs, man, that's where it's at.

  • OMG the guy at :55, I'm marching CorpsVets with him this year!!! YAY!!!

  • thats a girl at :55

  • oh my bad i meant 2:55 :)...the one taking his shirt off

  • lol

  • EUPHOS

  • YOU'RE MY HERO J.D. SHAW!

  • wow those king euphs so so nice

  • Go Euphs!!! Once I march PC for a year or two Im going to Phantom ;)

  • Brass Kicks Ass *** :D

  • High Brass Kicks Ass

  • TUBA!!!!!!!!!!

  • trumpets!

  • Gah... Marching BAritone is rough. Euphonium is Rougher. But I would love to be part of Phantom's Horn sound. LOW BRASS FOR LIFE!

    07/08 Revolution Baritone

  • i play woodwinds and im trying to learn mellofone and or trumpet that way i know brass. i already know percussion so yea

and PR is one of my favorites
