Use a program such as "iBooty" and reboot your iPod with that, it makes iTunes recognize the device. I just found it out by myself, hope it helps you.

I'm really sorry if you've already answered this question, but I have a problem with my iPod touch 4th gen. I was literally at the Apple store three hours ago and they supposedly fixed it. Well I got home and it's worse than it was before. It's been frozen on an Apple screen for over an hour and it flicks to a glitch screen. Thanks it worked. The key was to open iTunes first, then hold the home button on the iPod touch and finally and plug in the sync cable after that.

Hello. Recently I have installed a Cydia App called 'iLock'. Later that day I have been experiencing problems. Whenever I unlock my iPod with AndroidLockXT (I had AndroidLock installed when I installed iLock) my iPod will freeze for a minute than go back to the lock screen. How can I fix this? I've tried SSH into my iPod and deleting the iLock file and restoring from 2 different backups from the past before iLock. They both haven't worked.

Hold in the home button and plug in your sync cable at the same time, remain holding the home button until your device pops up in itunes saying "Your device has entered recovery mode" restore it from there... oy, before i do this.. i jailbroke my ipod like last year, do does this mean if i put it into revorvary mode i will have to update it when i connect to i tunes? caz that would make me lose everything! mu advise to everyone is when your stuck after a respring, just leave it run out of battery and it turn back on fine. if your going to respring something make sure its on low battery and full brightness so if it does screw up, it will run out quicker =)
