@Ialoveslr Definitely adults, not kids. Paul Reuben & Phil Hartman developed the character in the late 70's as part of The Groundlings comedy troupe. Pee-wee started life as a bad comic that couldn't remember punchlines. This clip is from the '81 stage show that was filmed for an HBO special, but Pee-wee had a small part in the 1980 film, Cheech & Chong's Next Movie - which was obviously aimed at adults!

This is a live stage show from the Roxy Theater in L.A. It preceded "The Pee Wee Herman Show" on Saturday morning TV. Don't confuse the two. This show is not for kids. It just looks like it. Pee Wee's movies are also not specifically for children. If this show were for kids he wouldn't be looking up Miss Yvonne's dress all the time.

Paul Reubens got in trouble for public masterbation. Personally, I think he did it on purpose. I think he was sick of being Pee Wee so he torpedoed himself.
