Umm im not sure what to look up to find a solution to this problem but when i put in any disc and close the little hatch my xbox will make a strange noise (not necessarily a grinding noise) and when i look at where it should say play whatever the game is it just says open hatch. i have searched every way to fix it on the help website but none have worked. please help.
My console makes the grinding noise whenever I lay it vertically. When I sort of shake it, I hear something loose inside. What could it be? Sent it in to Microshit already though.
Mine does the exact same thing...it makes me sad cause I want to hear the game playing...no the jet-like grinding noise coming from my xbox. One thing iv'e noticed tho is that most consoles that grind and on their sides. 2 temporary solutions.
1. Place the console Vertically
2. Buy a pair of headphones to plug into your tv. Max out volume!!!
ofcourse u got some stupid noise look where u placed your xbox it wont last long for ya then u gonna cry omg i got the rrod or something it needs to be puted on hard surface and a lot of room around it

whack your shitbox with a hammer, maybe it will stop the noise, if it dont, then use a a bigger hammer or a chainsaw hahahahahahahahahaahhh

That doesn't sound like grinding, more like sputtering.
Mine does the same thing, but with the arcade disc when it's loading the games. I thought that it was the laser moving along a track.

It's the DVD ROM drive!! The sound still excist without the monitor on top.
