Only pseudo intellectual frauds would deny the beauty of this song, or declare it inferior to his other performances. His voice is breath taking, and the melody is soul wrenching.
I loved this movie. The song fit the movie. I think Pavarotti sang it beautifully and it is exactly what the movie needed at this point. So forget about it.
@ggbreizh also nothing against John Williams, but for a voice as elegant as Pavarotti's is,I stand by what I said ,it is beneath him,it's a glorified pop song
@ggbreizh are you trying to convince me or yourself, what i'm saying is so obvious,in 100 years no one will remember pavarotti singing this, after 30 years since this movie came out,no one remembers this, but Pavarotti singing Puccini or Bellini will be echoing through eternity
I loved this movie, it was simple and the music was wonderful. So what if it was kind of silly. That's good. So much hate and violence in the world we need this.
I bought the movie and have seen it several times. It's a feel good movie.

I could have lived happily the rest of my life without hearing Pavarotti spilling his talent on the barren ground of this trite, boring, and overwrought jingle. I suppose the balloon symbolizes the hot air in this.. not music, no... in this, this... NOISE.
@FranzFafner Wow Franz lighten up! This song is definitely not suited to Pav. And yes, the movie stinks. However, John Williams and the Bergman's track records speak for themselves. Multiple Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy winners. Marilyn Bergman was an Oscar nominee for 3 songs 1983 alone including this one. Even the greats can misfire once in a while. Dionne Warwick actually sang it at the '83 Oscars and it seemed more suited to her vocal style.
@torresongs2 - Oh, I have lightened up quite a bit in the past 11 months since I wrote that comment. Still, I would have advised the great Bergmans to stick with Michel Legrand and avoid Paul Williams and his jingles like a herd of deer ticks. Paul Williams is to songwriting what Velveeta is to cheese and Little Debbie is to snack cakes. Remember, he wrote that horrible song from Barbra Streisand's horrible movie, A Bore Is Starred. What was that song called? Evergroan?
@FranzFafner LOL! Great comment! La Babs gets co-writing credit on EverGROAN....LOL! She probably gets residuals too because she features that damn song on about 10 of her albums!
@FranzFafner dnt u understand tnhe meaning of music? if it makes u feel good an happy then it is fine. nobody said pavorotti was di nero as an actor but it is snobs like you who thinks they have the momopoly in musical taste that make people like pavarotti inexcessable to the masses. you no no better than anyone else . so get over yourself
I have this video and don't know why critics hammered it so as I've seen many, many worse musicals in my time. Cielo e Mar is wonderful and what about the rendering of Nessun Dorma at the end? The food slinging scene was a bit silly, but so what! Don't think Pavarotti himself liked that because he says in his book that he'd never ever throw food around. In view of his love of it, I don't think we need to ask why.
Good Gracious! I'm stunned to find rather an obscure reference to someone I know... do you know Jennie as well? If not, I'd love to know how in the world you would recall that, and why... just curious. I actually have a friend who may still have it on VHS... are you referring to the performance at the Miss Florida comp., or at Miss America?
@VoxOmnia sorry to be late in replying to you....been a while since I searched this on youtube. Was referring to her performance at the Miss America pageant that year. Again sorry for not replying in a timely manner.
Well, you probably haven't seen the rest of the film. Pamela becomes his mistress, and then he's taking her to his friends and introducing her as Henry's niece, because he doesn't want them to know, that he's cheating on his wife.
The balloon scenes and other parts of this movie were filmed in Californias' Napa and Sonoma Wine Country. Recommend this quaint and entertaining movie to all!

Could the skies be any bluer than they are?
Could our smiles be any warmer,
kiss be any sweeter, if we were in love?
And could we seem any closer to a star?
Could we feel more than we're feeling,
dream more than we're dreaming, if we were in love?
