Is it just me or did Lennon write the first ever drum and bass song ever written. This came out in '66!!! I don't think the chemical brothers were even born
That love is all and love is everyone it is knowing that That you may see the meaning of within It is being, it is being. BUT LISTEN to the color of your dreams. it is not living it is not living. OR PLAY THE GAME EXISTENCE to the end.
I must have listened to this song at least 40,000 times since I first heard it as a kid in the early '70's, and it only seems to get better over time.
@BloodShotNow Yes, I know that song. Hendrix was a phenomenon indeed. The 60's saw the birth of so many geniuses: Beatles, Doors, Hendrix, etc. etc. etc.
Although at the end of the day The Beatles are second to none, in my opinion! 8-)
@tiramasopa Have you every listened to any Pink Floyd? You were talking about the Doors, Beatles, and Hendrix. If you like these bands i think that you would love Floyd. You got the guitar of Hendrix, the keyboard of the doors, and the psychedelicness of the later Beatles. Not to mention the Lyrical genius that is Roger Waters. :) If you've never listened, i would suggest starting with songs such as Time,Breathe,Welcome to the Machine,Comfortably Numb,or wish you were here.Move to albums then
@Jjjj187 I have listened to Pink Floyd, mate :-) I have listened to their best of called "Echoes". @tiramasopa haha I have to admit the best of pink floyd echoes album does infact suck ha. ...When a Band has a continuing Series of Songs that would make them a "One-Hit-Wonder", we in the Fan-Base call that an "Established Band". They have Hit-after-Hit!
The Genius of George Martin... Reverse loops.... Give this song the ethereal and surreal sound it has. The Beatles were a most Majestic band to say the least.
@ECL28E More the oposite actually... Love, calm, knowlage and attentiveness. Make's you prick your ears up and listen wanting to hear more. I hope you were joking....
Well Leary "re-wrote" the Tibetian Book of the Dead for the switched on genertion and called it "The Psychedellic Experience" wich John was also reading, but the opening lyrics are straight from it.
@dannyhood66 What songs did Hendrix do it on? "Third Stone From the Sun"? The Electric Ladyland album sounds like it could have those same effects as well.
@lifestraight Axis bold as love is the one that stands out in mind but your about third stone from sun..The voices in the background are Hendrix and i think Chas chandler or Eddie kramer producer our sound engineer..Something ''star fleet
their seems to some primitive lifeform..Hendrix is basically an alien cruising around the earth checking out our strange beautiful grassy green and majestic silver seas .He says, your mysterious mountains i wish to see closer ,''May i land kinky machine.lol
@dannyhood66 they were the first to backward anything The song I'm only sleeping on Revolver was the first song ever to have a backwords clip in it. They use the guitart solo from taxman in this one
@beatlebum19 Yeah my sister grew up back then,'' she says they brought in the song writing to rock music..Before that Elvis and others mostly went by a 3 chorded song formula I think? Maybe some that jazz it up more? The underground were done with it i think..Pink floyd wanted nothing to do with rock and roll at the time..Which is a trip? Oh yeah,''But they did love the Beatles that is for sure! Mix up a batch of children's books, Beatles and lsd and the you created Sid Barrett
Wow, this is such an awesome piece of art.. Amazing, perspectives, colors, textures, movements and integration. All edited expertly in timing, with one of the best songs ever made. Psychedelic to a beautiful and legitimate degree.
Without a doubt, this is a trip video, just look at the stares of bewilderment on the faces of each Beatle Whether this footage was shot specifically for this song I don't know, but it's put together perfectly. What a spectacle of a period for the Beatles, I love it.

they produced historically-significant music with less technology than what is available to any 9-yr-old today.
@worldcitizenforever An example of special effects would be that many of sounds used in this song are chronically inverted, the "seagull" sound was made using tape loops. The whole piece is a prototype for electronic music, unplayable live, especially in the 60's
@aniqwertyani Exactly. The Beatles preceded modern rock bands by decades, yet they were much more experimental with their sound. A lot of modern rock bands stick to the simple guitar, drums, bass ritual and never deviate from that formula. The Beatles tried different instruments (mandolin, sitar), tape loops, backwards recording. They were very innovative and experimental in their approach to studio recording.
this was a song that John Lennon wrote about an LSD experience he once had. He took some acid with Tim Leary and was having a hard time on the ride up. Tim Leary said "turn off your mind, relax and float down stream". I've been on the Beatles since I saw them on Ed Sullivan in early 64. My whole school was rocking off the ground the next day. I was in 6th grade at the time. Old hippie now.
@bigdrive23 Actually, I was just reading a biography, and both Paul and George say he got the inspiration from a book that was based on the tibetan book of the dead, which he read while taking LSD. However, this book was written by Tim Leary, so he did still get inspiration from him, like you said.
Actually I don't think he took the line from Tim Leary mouth directly, It's taken from the text 'The Psychedelic Experience - A Manual based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead' written by Leary with helps of his friends Ralph Metzner and Richard Alpert/Ram Dass. I think most of the lyrics are from this text.
@bigdrive23 I heard he drew influence from the Tibetan book of the Dead. Whatever; there is no reality, only perception. Beyond that though, Quntum Physics is everything.
Even by the Beatles exceptional standards this song is remarkable.44 years on it still sounds inventive, revolutionary ,and challenging. They were a thousand years ahead of their time.

Even by the Beatles exceptional standards this song is remarkable.44 years on it still sounds inventive, revolutionary ,and challenging. They were a thousand years ahead of their time.
