so i opened mine and theres this white thing sticking out and it won't go down and it's not letting me put my games in. i took out the disc i just don't know what to do with this white thing. help!!
@showzen76 Left arm should be up, off the black gear, and the right arm should be down. This corresponds to the transport being in the "ejected" position.
@junker15 my playstation 3 doenst work to put on when it turns on it brings a yellow light then it turns off with the red light blipping whats up with that can u explain why is that happing cause this is the first time that happens to my ps3 and i have had it for four years
@elbabyelloko Yellow Light Of Death. Basically caused by poor solder joints in the CPU or GPU. There are videos here on YouTube that show you how to fix it using a heat gun (djwhetzel's 2-part series on reflowing the mainboard is the best I've found on fixing the YLOD without parting with $150.)
@junker15 i will put it in this way i in doinican republic a only 14 i dont have uch brain for play grand theft auto every weekend and i dont know how to open a playstation 3 do u have a video of that and if u have whats the title cause i not putting my ps3 in a box underground
@junker15 to be honest with u in dominican republic theres a lot a dust not like america where i was born and there is dust in the playstation u think that might have caused something in the cpu dude reply as soon as passioble im getting worried
@3hkd You probably have to reset the transport too, so my "revised emergency eject" video is better for that. It goes over all the steps in a single video.
I was just wondering - how come I was able to simply eject my disc when my PS3 had a YLOD? I used the 'fan test' - i.e. turned off the mains switch and then turned it on while holding eject button. I had a 40GB version. The disc simply popped out as usual.
ok so here is the problem i am having with my ps3. i had to do this manual eject and it started working. it would take and eject the disc, but now im having a more complicated problem. the actual tray for the blue ray won't rise up to take the disc and spin the disc. what do i do?
After my PS3 suffered from the yellow light of death (which i fixed watching the Gilksy tutorial). My brother apparently broke the drive while removing the disc which was stuck. After repairing my ps3, discs couldnt get in no more. With the help of this video, my shit now works how it should work. Thank you very much!
@calarakien You'll need to get the drive apart enough to get the penny out, then reassemble it. The main thing to watch out for is the position of the plastic drive top. Both this and any alignment you might have to do are covered in my "revised emergency eject" video.
@Jmedras You probably just need to make sure the drive is aligned again. My "revised emergency eject" video goes over all the steps necessary to do this.
@Gibix LOL, no no no. Its not a PC floppy disc. I should have phrased it differently. It's one of those round, rubbery CD discs. A cheap freebie one full of trailers. It warned on the casing not to put the disc in a slot drive but I went and did it anyway because I'm a fucking idiot!
I did manage to sort my asshole PS3 out afterwards so I thankyou for your concern :>
This would void my warrentee. i won't open my ps3 up just to get a game, if it will void my warentee. without that i may never get another ps3..guess im glad my launch ps3 lasted this long
the problem I have is flashing red light 3 beeps problem. I don't hear fan spinning when I hold down eject button and turn on the ps3 from the switch in the back. tried it a few times and can't get the disc out....any ways to fix it or ti's done? it's a fat ps3 that's 4 and half years old. thanks I re-attached hdd and re connected the cables and still no luck
Mine is also making clicking noises when i insert the disc. I thought i finally got it back together right lol i was overconfident and didn't try with it taken apart so now it'll ave to wait for tomorrow. Helpful vid tho.
@KCALBLABEL00797 Okay took it back apart, apparently i just didn't slide the tracks far enough to clear the gear so it was clicking. The tray was lifted like it thought it had a disc. Re did it (putting left track all the way up/clear of gear) and its fine now. Thanks again
@sorenhussaini oh it just fixed mine look therres towo possible causes 1. DUST if its dust take ur vaccum cleaners and suck thos puppies out then its good OR go to an electronic shop tell them wats wrong its ur laser then for 60 bucks theyll replace ur llaser :P ur welcome
Thanks for this walkthrough. I replaced my blu-ray laser and there was a disk still in the drive so afterwards I couldn't put a disk back in. This helped out tons. Thanks
So I was hit with YLOD. The system is 5 yrs old with a lot of gametime. I was wondering if buying an 80 gb 1st gen refurb with accessories for $215 is worth it or should I try to fix mine. I'm not great at repairing electronics. I would send it in but I know the will send me one of those POS slim ones. (They did it to me with my first 80 gb, they sent me one that wasn't BC). Thaks for the help!!
So I did what you said and every time i put a disk in it makes a clicking noise or the disk start up very slowly then stops. Also I noticed the piece to make those white thing that make hold the disk in broke.
every time i turn on my playstation it automatically shuts off by its self in under 3 secounds and there is a disk stuck in there what can i do to fix it?
@spicyfruitroll91 YOu're probably experiencing the "Yellow Light Of Death" from the PS3 overheating. There are videos here on YouTube on how to fix this problem. As for the disk being stuck, you're on the right track: YLOD doesn't give you enough time to eject the disc normally, so you have to take the drive apart to get the disc back.
@junker15 yeah but the other thing is when i turn it on it loads up but then just automatically shuts off so i think i will try to do what you did and took it apart and by the way thanks for letting me know about the yellow light
i need help!!! the ribbon cable got disconnected from ps3 and i dont know where to put it back!! plz help it is a thin ribbon cable for a 80 gb plz plz plz reply!!!!
@ziz395 Let's see... there's a thin cable that connects a board with switches on it to the side of the control board. This one comes out the side of the drive. Then there are some other thin cables that come from the laser assembly and the spindle motor, which plug into the top of the control board. (You can't get these switched; they're different widths.)
My PS3 won't eject discs while vertical. It's an old 60 GB (similar style to the one in your video). Is there anything that you could think of that could be done to fix it?

hey man i looked at your vid earlier and my disk was stuck for a while now, and i found ou it wasnt the drive, the electric tape that conndects to the ps3 itself wasnt in good, and i dont know how that happend, it was like that b4 i opened it, sony did NOT help me out as i did not have a warranty, help?? (PS3 60GB)
Hey thank you so much for posting this helpful video. I was stuck in this situation when i opened my drive to clean the lens and didn't realise there was a disc still inside. HOWEVER can you suggest how i could fix the issue of my disc not spinning? It was fine before i opened it. I think I'm very close to getting it right. Thanks again.
I successfully retrieved my disc from my stupid YLOD 80G. I'd like to repair it myself, anyone know where I should begin? What exactly do I need to replace?
@Dzhit And if you can't eject the disc any other way? You know, I don't recall the guy insulting you in any way, so why do you have to act like a dumbass? Didn't your mother teach you manners? Even the guy's response to you is civil. People like you deserve to be dragged into the street and shot.
@chriscash6 All the small screws are #0 Philips. The screws for the PS3 top are #2 Philips. (And one security T10 Torx to get the glossy top cover off the machine.)
ok my disk drive has little ribbons that connect to it i thing thats the power source for electricity. how come u dont have those. it makes it hard for me to flip my disk drive upside down and unscrew the screws. damn fml
I broke my Disc sensor cable in the process of replacing my blu ray laser. When i turn on my ps3 the blu light flashes and makes a noise like its trying to take in or eject a game. Is there a way to still play games with CD?
Somehow my drive was in the locked position without a cd in it.. not sure what happened there but I was able to fix it without having to take it apart quite as much by just applying 9V to the motor which drives the loading mechanism until it was in the empty position, good as new now! =)
@FabulousZero Umm ok, i dont know who pissed on your cornflakes this morning but i wasnt trying to be a smart ass, i was merely stating another method for people that didnt know to try before opening up there Ps3. Grow up.
@nosworc Thank You so much, i tried your method and my CD popped right out, I had a problem where my CD would'n't eject properly, it would eject with a few tries but today it just wouldn't come out
but i didn't turn off the main power, all i did was hold the eject button, and held the power button next to it, after it beeped i let go but still held the eject button then presto!
So i wanted to open my PS3 and see what was wrong but i'm not experienced in fixing electronics (I'm 15 sue me)
to watch how to get a stuck disc out without voiding the warranty go to my youtube channel, click on uploaded vids, and scroll down to the bottom. the video is titled "how to get stuck discs out of your ps3/ps3 fan test"
@junker15 I've tried this vid, the loader alignment and the optical drive top but my PS3 seems to always think a disc is in the drive and therefore will eject nothing and won't take in anything as the blue light stays on. The problem MIGHT be as I took a disc out mid-game and then shut it off from the back. Any help appreciated dude, thanks :)
Is it possible for those ''white tabs'' @4:30 to become stuck? cause when i try to eject the disc those wont move, ithink theyr keeping the disc from ejecting
Dude thanks a million. My son stuck 4 Cd's inside and after watching your videos I was able to take them. Then thats when all the fun began, the tracks weren't aligned then it wouldn't spin and after I fixed that it wouldn't load. I supplemented 3 of your videos with some online reading and I now have a fixed PS3. you definitely saved me the $300 I was about to go spend on another system. All you need is some time and a little bit of patience. Again Thanks a lot
Dude nice vid very helpful I managed to reset the sliders from left and right yet I got another issue , sadly the (clips/hands) fell a part so It's not sliding back together anymore , if you could show the image of the fixed part of this thingy would really appreciate it
Can I just thank you for the video, we got the YLOD, and GT5 was stuck, we thought we'd have to resort to a hammer til we found your video, many other videos was not helpful to us. Even tho we had to buy a new PS3, lol, subscribed :-)
Hey, I want to thank you for this awesome helpful video. I have one problem though. When I was lifting the arm loading mechanism, I was moving the dials, and two little white sprockets popped off of the right side and I have NO CLUE where they were supposed to go. Can you e-mail me a picture of that particular part so I can see where I need to put them back? Thanks!
@ccamacho727 These are probably part of the "disc insertion drive" part that draws the disc in. See my "disc insertion drive" video for how to put it back together. (Or the "New PS3 fat disc insertion drive" version if you have the newer drive.)
@tara3411 For the old drive, there are 5 Philips #0 screws holding the plastic top down. Remove these and lift the top off. For the newer drive, there are two Philips #0 screws in the front and two clips on the sides near the rear of the drive that hold the top down.
first of all just try turn off the ps3 and the very important part is switch of the on-off switch behind the ps3! then press and continue holding the eject disc button wile switching on the on-off switch from behind the ps3. this made me get my stucked disc out.
this is only the old ps3 model that have this switch. if its the ps3 slim i guess that unplugging the power cable and do the same as above will due but i cant garantee that cause i didnt test it.
@xastunts That's all fine, but this method may not work for everyone. Those with YLOD issues will not be able to eject the disc at all unless the drive is disassembled.
when i try to put in a disc in my ps3 it will not take it when i press the arrow to check if there is no discs in it doesnt make a double beep just like a little whirr and stops... sumone help
Appreciate it, although you can get the disk out by actuating a gear manually and just eject it without disturbing the spring loaded arms. saves a heap a time...
@koolmoedee95 Remove two silver screws at the rear and three black ones at the front. Lift the metal top off from the rear. The bottom metal plate is still secured with two more screws from the controller board.
On underside of ps3 is a small thin push Thad and it will come out

What position should the arms be in when you re-assemble the cover that had one screw? The one you had to take off before you got to the motor?

@showzen76 Left arm should be up, off the black gear, and the right arm should be down. This corresponds to the transport being in the "ejected" position.

junker15 11 months ago 14
@Dzhit I highly doubt anyone who has a FAT ps3 still has a valid warranty. you sir would be the dumb ass...
norge696 11 months ago
@Dzhit And if you can't eject the disc any other way? You know, I don't recall the guy insulting you in any way, so why do you have to act like a dumbass? Didn't your mother teach you manners? Even the guy's response to you is civil. People like you deserve to be dragged into the street and shot.

@Dzhit ur talking about the fan test n tht works only on certain models of the ps3

what screwdriver did you use
chriscash6 11 months ago
@chriscash6 All the small screws are #0 Philips. The screws for the PS3 top are #2 Philips. (And one security T10 Torx to get the glossy top cover off the machine.)

@junker15 i did it the blue light is no longer on but it wont pull my discs in, what did i do wrong
joewarar12 6 months ago
ok my disk drive has little ribbons that connect to it i thing thats the power source for electricity. how come u dont have those. it makes it hard for me to flip my disk drive upside down and unscrew the screws. damn fml
SayYEaH616 11 months ago
I found this video and this what it does sorta. Doesnt take games and flashes the blue light. Could this be all because of the little Disc sensor?
henryn11 11 months ago
I broke my Disc sensor cable in the process of replacing my blu ray laser. When i turn on my ps3 the blu light flashes and makes a noise like its trying to take in or eject a game. Is there a way to still play games with CD?

Hey man great tute,
Somehow my drive was in the locked position without a cd in it.. not sure what happened there but I was able to fix it without having to take it apart quite as much by just applying 9V to the motor which drives the loading mechanism until it was in the empty position, good as new now! =)
oscarbravo 1 year ago
1. Hold eject button
2.Turn off power at back while still holding eject button
3. Turn power back on while still holding eject button.
4. Disc will be forced out.
No need to take apart the playstation, this method worked for me when i had YLOD.
nosworc 1 year ago
@nosworc doesnt work for all situations, smart ass
FabulousZero 1 year ago
@FabulousZero Umm ok, i dont know who pissed on your cornflakes this morning but i wasnt trying to be a smart ass, i was merely stating another method for people that didnt know to try before opening up there Ps3. Grow up.
nosworc 1 year ago
@nosworc Thank You so much, i tried your method and my CD popped right out, I had a problem where my CD would'n't eject properly, it would eject with a few tries but today it just wouldn't come out
but i didn't turn off the main power, all i did was hold the eject button, and held the power button next to it, after it beeped i let go but still held the eject button then presto!
So i wanted to open my PS3 and see what was wrong but i'm not experienced in fixing electronics (I'm 15 sue me)

@TrueCoolGuy Your welcome, glad it worked for you mate.

Hey, I put my ps3 disc inside the reader. It spins the disc but stopped reading and the laser showed me the blue light. What was the problem?
JarvisNgoi 1 year ago
to watch how to get a stuck disc out without voiding the warranty go to my youtube channel, click on uploaded vids, and scroll down to the bottom. the video is titled "how to get stuck discs out of your ps3/ps3 fan test"
TOGA4808 1 year ago
@TOGA4808 for those of us with YLODs or other "no power" conditions, manual disassembly is the only way to free the disc from the lumpy thing

@TOGA4808 60 Gb cant do that you retard
dazee111 11 months ago
@dazee111 i am aware of the fact that not all ps3s do that. i thought i stated that in my description, but i did not. that will be added!

Can I just thank you for the video, we got the YLOD, and GT5 was stuck, we thought we'd have to resort to a hammer til we found your video, many other videos was not helpful to us. Even tho we had to buy a new PS3, lol, subscribed :-)
Peekogirl 1 year ago
could't u just put it back togerther and push the eject button again?
ballhawk210 1 year ago
@ballhawk210 This is more for people who have the YLOD issue or a faulty power supply and can't eject the disc the usual way.

Thanks!
ccamacho727 1 year ago
@ccamacho727 These are probably part of the "disc insertion drive" part that draws the disc in. See my "disc insertion drive" video for how to put it back together. (Or the "New PS3 fat disc insertion drive" version if you have the newer drive.)
junker15 1 year ago
how do u remove the top case of the cd drive (not the silver) the black 1
tara3411 1 year ago
@tara3411 For the old drive, there are 5 Philips #0 screws holding the plastic top down. Remove these and lift the top off. For the newer drive, there are two Philips #0 screws in the front and two clips on the sides near the rear of the drive that hold the top down.

Hey i got a question....
What if you get the DVD out but then dont reset the drive, but put it back toghether and then turn it on?
Is it gonna break or what?
PLEASE ANSWER!
francydude 1 year ago
i just fixed mine! thank you. keep the good work!
unrealtorment 1 year ago
please for the love of god!!!
first of all just try turn off the ps3 and the very important part is switch of the on-off switch behind the ps3! then press and continue holding the eject disc button wile switching on the on-off switch from behind the ps3. this made me get my stucked disc out.
this is only the old ps3 model that have this switch. if its the ps3 slim i guess that unplugging the power cable and do the same as above will due but i cant garantee that cause i didnt test it.
xastunts 1 year ago
@xastunts That's all fine, but this method may not work for everyone. Those with YLOD issues will not be able to eject the disc at all unless the drive is disassembled.

Appreciate it, although you can get the disk out by actuating a gear manually and just eject it without disturbing the spring loaded arms. saves a heap a time...
maddaug 1 year ago
how did you take off the silver part of the disk drive?
koolmoedee95 1 year ago
@koolmoedee95 Remove two silver screws at the rear and three black ones at the front. Lift the metal top off from the rear. The bottom metal plate is still secured with two more screws from the controller board.
