  • i dont like cop cars with only red lights

  • smoke the bear my grampa always calls nys troopers smoke the bear

  • i love cop cars

  • hi can you tell me paint code of nysp crown vic

  • I disagree with using these new LED lightbars. Especially using them at night. They are SO bright that when several cop cars are parked on the side of the road with lights flashing, they are virtually blinding. I have to squint or turn to look away, which means I'm probably more likely to hit something as I drive. These lights may be good during the day, but at night they are definitely OVERKILL. It's like having an alien spacecraft coming up on you. The old rotating red lights were sufficient.

  • @mrderekevan Actually, what you NEED to do is SLOW DOWN. They are not overkill. The are designed to be seen by drivers who are too busy to SLOW DOWN. I am an EMS Lieutenant in NYC, and with all my high rise bars, LED's, flares, people don't care. And, stupid drivers aren't confined to NYC. The limit in NYC is 50 on the highways. We have people coming in on us at 75 plus. nobody cares. If it was up to me, I would park dump trucks to slow some of you down. SLOW DOWN.

  • @mrderekevan I disagree. I do believe that at night they should have an LED de-rate function to cut down the power and still make them effective, but not blind people.

  • @studpuppy69 Most LED lightbars come with a low power lead on their connections, but rarely have I seen it used. The prevailing mindset is "why would you want to make your lights LESS visible?" even though blinding flashing lights are basically a "DRIVE HERE" target for impaired drivers.

  • Countrywide, colors are mixed, now. Red & Bue. You may use a take down or alley light, in clear only, Strobes and leds are in, no more rotating.

bulbs, Calif. in some cases use a steady burn

light, strobes and LEDS burn cool and draw less power than bulbs.

  • i like the idea of seeing flashing lights in the distance and being able to identify it from that alone...Blue- Police Red/amber- Fire engine Red/white- Ambulance...i think its better than random colors across the states...

  • @USASPD here in sioux city IA ALL the lightbars are red and blue on all emergency vehicles cops have the led and rotator lights fire is starting to get them and ems still has the old rotators. most of the firetrucks still have federal signal aerodynics or some similar lightbar on them. the only ones that dont are some of the ladder trucks which have strobes or led lights we got a bit of everything here lol

  • In New York State the Volunteer FF's run the blue lights. Cheifs run red...The police run red because it has been like that for everm to much hassle to change the light colors for FF's EMTS, and Police. Blue is much more visable in day and night which is why it is in the back of the police cars and most first responders POV's.

  • why wont NY catch on and use blue like all the other states

  • its actually illegal in many states to have blue on emergency vehicles. blue is technically only aloud on first aiders...like wen u see a car with those little blue lights in them...but even though theyre not allowed to most states do anyway

  • @ZewJersey I can guess that you are from NJ, and can STATE FOR A FACT that there are many messed up laws about POVs, off duty's and vollys running code 3 etc lol. In NH, its impossible to find a police vehicle with any other than blue, and fire and EMS get red whit amber stc.

  • some in cities and towns police in NY run blue when I went there, some of them use both blue and red. and there are other states that use amber lights but I don't remember which ones. I know some cities california use multicolor lights.

  • @yootchmyster blue looks best in my opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • and also new mexico use all red.

  • @yootchmyster dont like the idea of red for police. red has always been fire, as blue is police

  • me too, NYSP have red in front but blue in the rear, and I'm from Mass so MASP which is the opposite, blue in the front but red in the rear. States like New Mexico, Minnesota, and Michigan have all red leds. Michigan State Police have a single circular red light which is weird. Look it up.

  • @yootchmyster i would just just join a different dept. if i had crappy lights lol. We have stupid whelen 9000 series strobe lightbars and no interiors, but we o have wig wags and corners. LED dominates though. all blue

  • @yootchmyster Red Circular light is retarded and this is 2010? Not 1985! Michigan needs to get with the times.

  • @studpuppy69 Shockingly, they are now installing custom-built LED gumballs on their new vehicles. It's a total joke. When I visited MI a few years back, I had a quick chat with a cop there who was just sitting on the side of the road doing literally nothing (snow days are slow days, apparently) and he thought that they were ineffective and simply disgraceful. Oh, and that silly little stop bar? Don't get me started...

  • @OfficerNelson ur stupid bro michigan state police has the best looking cars out there the gumball light and the stop sign is a tradition dont hate on MSP because their cars have swag

  • @coty734 "Swag" doesn't mean shit when you're talking public safety. Those rotator models are nearly invisible during bright daylight.

Traditions are great, but I wouldn't want to be a taxpayer in Michigan if the prevailing mindset was "we have to get these stop bars custom-shopped at a few hundred bucks a pop because of tradition". Our local sheriffs had mint green cars for a long time because of tradition - we don't repaint them anymore because it's a joke, just like the stop bars.

  • @OfficerNelson those gumballs are more aerodynamics the car can go faster and they save gas money look it up dont sit here and talk about something u dont no about and the gumball lights have been replace with led's and are just as bright as any other lightbar oh in the stop sighns dont interfere with anything they just make the car look better. "swag dosent mean shit " so tell me why every state trooper from any state wear best looking uniforms that arnt practictal at all

  • @coty734 If you want aerodynamics, you'd go with dash/deck lights. They're being replaced with LEDs as they burn out - the LED units are custom-made, too. Nice added cost there.

You need to look professional to gain respect. If they ran around in t-shirts and shorts, nobody would respect them. The stop bar doesn't provide any real warning benefit, and 49 other state police agencies operate fine without them.

  • @OfficerNelson right beacuse every car in the MSP should a slick top with a dash or deck light obvusly im having a argument with a dumbass

  • @OfficerNelson what are you talking about? First, what the hell is a "stop bar" they are called push bars because that is what they are used for, pushing things. And, you're right they don't provide any warning benefit because again that is not what they are for. What are they supposed to warn you about? And this whole thing about looking professional, you do have a point, but at the same time the uniform needs to be functional so you can perform your job. I can tell you stories about running

  • @l3ubba22 The "stop bar" (a.k.a. "hailer") is what MSP puts on the hood of their car. It glows red and says "STOP" to the sides of the car. It's barely visible. I am not talking about the pushbars they use. Google is your friend.

  • @OfficerNelson Oh, ok I know what you're talking about now. Yes I have seen those before, but I don't have any personal experience with them so I couldn't tell you if they are effective or not.

  • @OfficerNelson through the woods with K9 while we were tracking people and it was a pain in the ass to make sure I didn't get my pins and badge dirty or caught on anything, but the K9 units are allowed to wear TDU's and tac vests so he doesn't have to worry about anything. Also, lightbar vs slicktop and push bar vs no push bar doesn't really have a signifigant impact on gas mileage, our county has both and both get about the same gas mileage.

  • @OfficerNelson and the stop bars get handed down to next fllet so on and so fourth, since out tax payers are spending so much money on them damn stop bars ROFL!

  • Comment removed

  • and also states like michigan and minnesota run all red if you didn't know that.

  • most of NYPD city cops have led vectors

    some still have the halogens

  • headlight flashers are a fail

  • the problum with the nysp bars now is there TOO GOD DANGED BRIGHT leds have no place on a highway at night! i almsot ran off the road because i couldnt see nothin and i wasnt even lookin at the lights! then another time i had to stop completely when a trooper was comein the other way because i was absolutely blind! i despise led bars!

  • me too..the halogen lights ar ebetter [-(

  • i agree, i dont like LEDs much - rotators give enough light 24/7, and if you NEED LEDs then just use TWO facing forward and TWO facing back.

IMO, cops are best off with blue lights visible all around, red lights visible from in front, and amber lights in back.

  • i agree! hell all you even need is a streethawk with 175 fast rotators with 2 set reverse polarity so they dont double up. blue on top amber LED drop ins on the rear flashers and red LED DROP IN flashers on the front falshersmaby even put a lightstick in the rear deck too much lighting is overkill and MORE likely to cause accidents on the highways

  • In Monroe County, NY some of the sheriff cars have those lights on top. A big PLUS I noticed about these new lights, especially at night, is that it's directed at the stopped vehicle on the road and behind. The older rotating lights would sweep light into the windows of homes bringing unnecessary attention to the people in a community.

The new lights seem to add a slightly higher degree of stealth/less attention. I believe that's what officers would prefer.

  • those digital lights are absolutally gorgeous. All nys law enforcement should have these and get rid of the rotaters

  • I agree on that but the vectors aren't that bad considering they have led's in em aswell

  • The vector bars are pretty nice if the coverings are well maintained. They're extremely visible, even more so then the LED Whelens at some times, especially during the night time.

  • i agree, most cop car's in my area of NY have LED's now, There so much brighter and more safe especially when your on the side of the freeway in the middle of the night, rotaters are so 70s haha

  • at least the nysp rotators are better than michigan's huge single gumdrop. It only has one rotating light and rotates so slow you barely notice it coming on the highway since it is only facing your direction every few seconds

  • The wig wags on the front seem dated... Now I usually see wig wags where one side flashes 2-3 times then the other side... Not One flash left the one flash right then one flash left... etc....

    Nice looking cars though!

  • Why doesn't anybody use blue over in the east???

  • most eastern states do use blue. Only a few, mostly in the northeast use red. When you drive in NYS it seems everyone has a red light up top. Many are now going to blue and red since red is better in daytime and blue is better at night.

  • in New York State right now for police its red and white forward facing, and red blue and amber rear facing. only volunteer firefighters can have blue forward facing and no emergency vehicle other than police can have blue

  • i disagree in daylight in my town the squads have red and blue i think the blue is more visible at all time. depending on the lightbar, but in this town the blue out shines the red making it impossible to see red at all times of day.

  • only firefighter's do,

  • it may be odd but i got an attraction to cars parked with those police lights on...

  • whelen tir3 in the grill

  • haha is that taconic state parkway? where is that?

  • These work really well. The old ones looked so much like brake lights or even tail lights at a distance that you wouldn't notice till you were right up on them. Especially in the weather up there.

  • Did this car have a blue flashing light in the back as well?

  • Yes it does. I will see if I cannot get a video of it up on here!

  • isn't there supposed to be at least 1 steady red light facing front? The vehicle code states this:

CVC 25252. Every authorized emergency vehicle shall be equipped with at least one steady burning red warning lamp visible from at least

1,000 feet to the front of the vehicle to be used as provided in this code.

In addition, authorized emergency vehicles may display revolving, flashing, or steady red warning lights to the front, sides or rear of

    the vehicles.

  • That is a California law,

  • Lol, nice

  • Thank you for that jmw61075. Totally correct. Nowhere in NYS VTL does it state about any steady burn module.

If you look at any of the new LED products out there (i.e. Whelen) you will see one option has "California Steady Burn" as one pattern!

  • I take that back, my fault, just realised that people were typically moaning on and on about the light laws etc. They should know that whatever lights are on the car with it marked, are legal obviously due to the fact that they know the laws etc. But once again, my fault on jumping to the conclusion that you mistook it for a CA Police Car.

  • I knew it was an NYSP cruiser, I was pointing out to the guy that the steady red light that he was talking about was a California law that requires all emergency vehicles to display a steady red light to the front. California also requires all emergency vehilces to display red, blue and amber to the rear. If you ever notice on the red and blue lightbars on LAPD, CHP, SFPD vehicles there is a small section of amber on the rear.

  • Yeah, I noticed that but I mistook the conversation previous to where you told him it was a CA Law. I though you figured the car istelf was a CA Law Enforcement Cruiser.

  • Hey nice video, do you have a video of the back of the NYSP car with the red blue and amber led's are?

  • Yes, somewhere. I will either find it, or record a new video with the rear for you!

  • lenses make the color seem like it appears longer...our police cruisers all use non colored so our leds never look like they are on when they are not. our fire engines use lenses with their Fed Sig Jet Solaris bars.

  • haha, yeah test there effectiveness, they should have gone with the non-colored lensed red leds instead much more bright, it just drains out the brightness of the led when you have a read lens on them.

  • Pretty nice bar. Though, I like the Vector and the Standby Lightbar the most :P

Standby is used by the Swedish police :)
