  • you have to export it from that program though… am I the only one who can see that you don't end up saving any time at all? In fact, according to the reviews you lose quality as well.

  • you've missed out on one very important..issue. i noticed that your original footage is in 16:9 while the new footage is 4:3. I'm having the same issue and have no idea how to fix it.

  • you're awesome! thanks!

  • Every-time I try to render, FCP says "Insufficient disk space" and asks me to clear out the render manager, but theres nothing in it.. Can you help? :P

  • Top tip!!

  • is this legal?

  • I need to edit a 1920x1080 movie... but when i export it by 16:9, i still get a small black letterbox thing on the sides. Does it just not work for big widescreen videos?

  • Suberb! works a treat, thanks.

  • when you switch it to ntsc it changes from 1080p

  • As mentioned - it works because your sequence settings are defaulted to NTSC/DV. As long as your settings are the same as your clips - the render upon import will not have to be conformed. Faster - change your settings to match your clip codec. If FCP wont play nice - settings and conform should both be ProRez;)

  • Thanks so much! I just saved about three days worth of rendering with this.

  • good tutorial, clearly and coherently expressed

  • hope you enjoy my friend request and channel

  • Hi, Thanks very much for the advice. You have saved me lots of time and frustration.

  • thanks for this!

  • how can i find final cut express for windows?!?!

i was searching for hours and i can't find it :(

  • @CatSpiritExtreme It is an Apple only thing sorry.. (Buy a Mac)

  • It'll work if your sequence settings are the same as the clip's settings (namely same codecs)

  • it does not work for me at all ;( i still have to render the video in FCE

  • Great solution.... however, you don't 'save' time ... you just move the wasted time to a different part of the day, namely the morning when you sit with Streamclip for six hours whilst it converts all the data... :(

  • i'm using a canon vixia and mpeg doesn't recognize it

  • I need to render when I use effects... :((

  • @oribali1 duh.

  • I just tried this and its giving me a crop effect??

  • Will this have any loss of quality on the clip if im coverting a 1080p HD mp4?

  • didn't work...still has the red line overtop

  • SAM your are a genius my friend - I have spent about four hours trying to work

this out so I can not THANK YOU enough. Keep your wise and inspiring work

coming - you have a major fan in Los Angeles -- thank you again!! Deb

  • Dude you are a legend!!!! Thanks for postin this vid! You've saved me so much time!

Happy new years & God bless from New Zealand!

  • dude i love u man!! this saved me aloooooooot of time!!

  • (hey, I'm back ....run out of characters ;) .....I was going to use on a particular project (not necessarily shot with a DV camera!), hence avoiding rendering. Your tip works, but that's for just one clip. What happens when you have HUNDREDS of little/short clips? Nesting with MPEG Streamclip?? .....I've tried the "auto-conform" feature, but it doesn't work. :(

  • hey Sam, great help! ......question: if I bring a whole bunch of .avis, or other compact photo camera-created video clips directly into FC Xpress, the original aspect ratio, etc. is changed ..... (+ the obligatory rendering into whatever DV format FC Xpress insists on using, of course!) .......any ideas on how to keep these clips' original aspect ratio/frame rate, etc. with FCX??? (With Final Cut Pro I was able to customize my timeline to mimic all parameters of the kind of clips I was going....

  • it works but i have no sound does anyone no how to fix this

  • Dang this is awesome. I gotta try it out!

  • Thanks a ton man. AMAZING!

  • Hey I did all that but it didn't work :-( Any idea why? It seems to have worked for everyone else...is there anything else I can do? The clips are HD is that maybe why? Is there a way of making them not HD? I'd prefer them not to be and for that to work than have HD clips that I can't do anything with! (I don't make anything at the mo because the rendering takes too long! PLEASE HELP ITS DRIVING ME MAD!

  • I can't add any effects to my video after I did this... how do you add effects?

  • this doesnt work for hd

  • and what if i have 1080p and i want it to satay that way?

  • I've been searching for a video that shows a trick that actually works. This doesn't fucking work!

  • how can it be every time i put a video in it it says: can't prepare the movie?

  • OMGoooooooood!!! I love you. Thanx so much for this video.

  • Thank youu :D

  • I have read the FCE manual. no need for any other software to avoid annoying rendering all the time. JUST 2 CLICKS IN THE FINAL CUT EXPRESS :) at the left upper corner of FCE timeline click the RT pop-up menu and choose Unlimited RT (instead of safe RT)

  • @uniquefuturecz I got so excited then! But don't think it works for HD :-( it looked like it was about to play but still got the beeping and then a pop up message saying "Dropped frames during playback" and it won't actually play back normally :-(

  • @uniquefuturecz i think i love you (no homo)

  • that's all and u can watch your movie in real time whenever u make a change or add effects etc.:)) (in a bit worse quality, because some frames are dropped out while playing in real time, but it's not a problem, just after u finish all your work on the movie, swith back to Safe RT to see which parts need to be rendered and render them:)

  • THAT WORKS, THANK YOU!! Do you know if saving HD video files like that lowers their resolution, or if it stays HD?

  • You know, this isn't really an issue if you own an Avid. When is FCP going to get rid of this rendering problem?

  • @meck64 maybe avid is a bazillion bucks, and this is final cut express not pro, which is cheap cheap cheap, and a great deal. So stop going around complaining about something that doesn't apply to you. Anyways, shouldn't you be busy working on your nonrendering avid??

  • I followed your advice but I get a message about dropped frames and my movie started pausing. It was around 1 gig and I was working on a Canon 7d. Any thoughts? Great video btw.

  • really helpful. many thanks

  • @wsdoud i love you man, thank you soooooo much!

  • So if i were to make a video w/ multiple clips that needed editing, i would have to one by one import each clip into mpeg streamclip and wait for all of them to convert? Doing that will take longer then it will to edit it!! Sheesh! With imovie hd i can just import all the clips straight from my camera and not worry about rendering, converting, offline media, and all that mess!! I wish Final Cut was that easy! Sheesh!

  • Big help & time saver. Thanks Sam.

  • thanks for the nice tutorial

as i'm a beginner to final cut express, i was struck at the first moment bcoz of rendering.

    i'll try it out now

  • This doesn't work at all for Final Cut Pro. Please explain to me why I can follow every step you just took but still have the red render bar

  • @BigYellowProductions i have the same problem. i have the final cut pro 7. i still have the red render bar too. did you find a solution?

  • This video really helped me out. Thanks for making.

  • Very nice.

  • Eveything you did, can be done in final cut pro

in FILE-Media Manager. Media tab to Recompress.

what's good about Media Manage is you can batch file

video clips all at the same time, not clip by clip

    would take to much time.

nice videos, keep up the good work!

  • @g4sean Thanks for the tip mate. Other than imovie, i'm just trying out FCP for the first time today. Your tip is certainly of help. Cheers!
