The Day I Stopped Eating "Hostess Twinkies".......when I was a kid in the 1960s I just loved hostess twinkies. I ate them all the time.....then.....one day I bought a package, opened it up, took a big bite fully expecting that symphony of golden sponge cake and wipped cream I was so used to and......I said (either verbally or in my mind)..."what the hell did they do to these?"....the delicious cream filling tasted terrible very artificial....they changed it. That was it...no more twinkies for me

It is a sponge cake similar to angel food, It is injected with a whipped cream. It has been the best sweet treat I have had in along time; that is other then Vegemite, MMMbop, I really love my vegemite, it puts the rose in every cheek. (wink) Hope you can find some twinkies online. I know I found a site to buy Vegemite.

I loved the old twinkies, but the new ones, has lost that old time feeling. They got rid of the cardboard bottom, and the whipped cream center, just seems to not be the same texture as it used to be. I used to dig out the creamy center then eat hte cake. and with the cardboard, there used to be some of the crust on it, and used to scrape it with my finger and lick it off. So much memories of those days...

I don't remember the cardboard...and yes I admit, I don't find them as irresistable as I once did.

I agree, and suspect it may be because they no longer use lard in the whole hostess line, due to pressure from the FDA. The texture and overall taste is not the same as then at all. Lard made all the difference. ^_^

I agree with you as well. The best things as a kid are now changed for our health. LOL, MY Lard! LOL you know if the FDA actually cared about anything, they would go after the Drug companies and get them to lower the prices, shut down the bloody cigarette producers. Leave my twinkie alone... Thanks for sharing inkey2. I recall it at some point, though I don't remember when, the taste difference as you described. They smell differently as well. I suspect the removal of lard being swapped for an oil substitute(among other things), altered the whole texture, smell, flavor and mouth feel. Well, that and they left the heroine out..lol.(jk) They were just so yummy. ^_^
