LOL, yeah the song may sound terrible by today's standards, but this was my skate song! Put the bass on blast and the skate floor lit up! Man I miss those days!
My Older Cousin Hated these cats back when i was in Highschool in the 80's..He swore up and down that these cats couldn't sing. I would play the song just to piss him off when I was a Teenager! LOL!!
full force produced the first UTFO album. most of these cats like teddy riley, larry smith, kyle west, and howie tee grew up in the beginning of hip hop. anybody from the 60's, 70's and 80's are influenced by ALL aspects of music! not just rap! unfortunatly its ONE DIMENSIONAL nowdays!
UTFO. Good group. I still have a 12" single by them called 'Split Personality' or something like that. I got into hip-hop around that time. However, I still consider the early nineties as being the golden era of hip-hop. By 1996 however it was all going downhill.
sorry, beatwise 1984-1989 is the golden era -MARLY MARL,MANTRONIX,CED GEE(ULTRAMAGNETIC),PUMPKIN. when cats started doin the mega super loops for drums in the early 90's. I started tuning out on that. lyrically yes I kinda agree on that! the sampling laws grabbed NEW YORK by the balls! and onslaught of too many underground cats wanting to be DELA-QUEST groupies! if the beat aint movin like a drummer i turn that shit off!
Marly Marl. Holy shit that guy was talented. You've made me want to listen to some old stuff again - cheers. Nice to get a response from somebody who actually knows what they're talking about for once.
@ozoid455 Good comment..I think this started when people started calling it a hip hop culture. It caused a separation i think. Back in the days (70's-mid 80's) it was just hood music. I remember in NY we loved it all. Hip Hop, R&B and house. Slow jams etc. Now you got cats who only listen to hip hop or house or r&B..one dimensional like you said.
holy gee.... back to 1986... one of my favourite dancefloor hits, even in Hungary..... typical songlist then in the club: Wham, Modern Talking (!), James Brown, Full Force, Falco, Whitney Houston, Queen .... what a year, folks, what a year!
wow! these are cool cats. i aint knew about them til right now. didnt know they been behind so many stars' careers!

It's funny how this track appealed to the hip-hop crowd more than the soul fans. Classic.
