Do yourself a favor and make a SMALL hole in the end and replace the glass slide with a small piece of Balsa wood. Yes, it will add a bit of friction and the pencil won't spin as long but you will add stability and the pencil won't slide all around the glass.

as far as i know maglev is levitating with magnets, and i dont think it needs to have superconductive materials. from what i gathered from the video the magnets on the pencil were trying to moveinto the piece of plastic or whatever it was , so if you had enough magnets on the table it could keep moving across them, so i would say this is a maglev. unless iv totally misunderstood something :/

Thats right but even if you had a bunch of magnets on the table the pencil would stop moving forward, you need to constantly change the poles at the right time so that the magnets don't counter each others magnetic field.

Not a maglev rly. Maglevs usually use supraconductive materials, not just magnets. But yeah a nice demonstration of what magnets can do.
