back in the early 50s I went autograph hunting at a hotel in Saint John NB Canada, and knocked on Lionel Hampton's door. He invited me in, introduced me to his wife Gladys. I was a kid and he wanted to know if I played foodball. What a couple of wonderful diplomats they were, I loved them
If not for Benny Goodman, you might not heard of Lionel Hampton, ( at least as early )
Benny incorporated the first black musicians with his band.
