  • Thumbs up if you are listening to this in 2012 :)

  • Hate young boys band like one direction, love Moby!

Blue like if you like my comment.

  • watch?v=Bx4RjlDq5D4

  • My Favorite Track On The Album, Thanks For Uploading! xD

  • @dougleyendecker Doging

  • Wish me luck folks, I'm going to the deep and dark part of comments section to find akidforever92's comment.

  • Who are sing that plz?

  • @JuJuZeBadBoY As "God's Gonna Cut You Down", it was performed by Odetta on Odetta Sings Ballads and Blues (1956)

  • This is shit compared to Cash's version.

  • Nobody cares, Moby! Nobody cares. No one.

  • Derping and Dodging?

  • SMALL BEANS ALL THE WAY ;P

  • pretty cool song!

  • This is an old Elvis gospel tune .. it is pretty good.

  • @7777dmith7777 Older than Elvis! :)

  • Why would you dislike this song?

  • This song comes in battlefield 3 :)

  • @ReAgeSwISS wo,bzw. welcher Teil? In der Kampagne?

  • I heard this song in a play just before the performance with my school, my friend thought the guy said "run on laundry detergent" lol

  • @tjstevens74 People like you are funny. You're so arrogant that you don't understand the concept of music.

You like certain things, congratulations. Others like other things, Congratulations to them. If you don't like a certain style, don't listen to it, it's as simple as that people.

No need to get a bad boo boo and raised blood pressure by saying "stupid shit ass fuck fuck blat blat man." about a song. It's a song, it's released, you don't like it? Get over it.

  • @tjstevens74 Meaning of the song?? Do you ever enjoy music without thinking too deeply into it? I'm guessing so, because your comment leads me to believe your thought process is pretty damn shallow. Your age doesn't have anything to do with it when I tell you "grow the fuck up".

  • At 1:40, after Moby says "Run On", what does the person say in the background?

    Thanks! :)

Sounds like "Why did you rape me" to me haha.

  • @BanksyKid It always sounds like "Right. Did you right, babe." to me. I don't know how much since that makes. But that's what it sounds like to me.

  • i got the holy ghost on this

  • Moby is the bomb

  • moby sampled an old alan lomax field recording to make this song. he didn't 'cover' anyone. it's a gospel standard.

  • Johnny Cash. Nuff said.

  • @2ous lol the fact you say ew to Johnny, I feel sorry for you

  • my thumb does stuff!!

  • i prefer the Johnny Cash version, but this one is cool too.

  • djhowtoo, if he were a beastie boy, he would have been an entirely different style of music. Moby has his OWN style, as do the Beastie Boys. I don't like the Beastie Boys style. So, the comparison is apples to oranges there...Moby, by the way, is MUCH more talented in his own right than the Beastie Boys.

  • @93Aitor93 um..say it in English, please.

  • love this :)

  • This song has been covered by EVERYONE...people...not only do some of you need to learn to "internet" (@akidforever92), but some of you need to learn more about music history...this is not only a folk song, it's an African Slave song....Moby has ALWAYS contributed some of his recording to old Black Gospel...so, before anyone gets offended in my remark, you should become a better fan of Moby and get to know HIS legacy first...He is a class act.

  • @wdharvey1 he is not a class act, but everything else you say is gospel, his music aint half bad but still hes no beastie boys

  • i loooooooove this version ! :)

  • @ninik06 Me too! But I love the other versions! I saw True Grit (AMAZING btw) and I heard it in the credits and I go, "JOHNY CASH!". Then I noticed that Moby did this song too! Usually I hate remakes of songs, but THIS is an exception.

  • @VhuzeyySoH sling ur hook hahaha musics a way t get t the past don't like don't listen but don't dis it -_- peace out

  • Moby, you can get stomped by Obie....Noobody listens to technoo!!

  • I love it!!!

  • I agree this isn't as good as Cash's version, but given that it's probably better than versions done by Elvis and Tom Jones, let's give him some credit.

  • @j2f125 Yeah, Johnny Cash's version is superior. This one makes me think of a barbershop quartet with electronics.

  • thankyou for posting!!!!

love this! had it on tape me and my mum used to sing this in the old car!!! :D goodtimes

  • Esto es un cover de Johnny Cash?

  • I think it's "long-tongued" liar, instead of "lonesome" as is in the description. In fact I know it is. haha

  • @titojack8 Shut up fool!

Moby has changed lots of the words.

    Get with it.

  • Great song however Cash's is too much of a classic to beat. The Cash music video is one of the best i have ever seen. For everyone who wants to hear cash's version: God will cut you down-Johnny Cash

  • i want to figure out how to play this on my keyboard

  • @strokez1 the part at the beginning is just F & A # then F# & B then hold it and replace the B with an A and then repeat that same pattern...the little melody thing is just F# A# A B E and repeated over and over again... you can figure out the rhythm and which octave to play it in all by yourself...

  • Moby should stick to writing, fewer people will get hurt.

  • The Golden Gate Quartet - God's gonna cut 'em down

  • Odetta's version is easy to find too. Her name is Odetta Gordon, if that helps - it's under Run On.

  • It's an old folk/gospel song, just look it up on wikipedia: "God's gonna cut you down"

My favorite version is this one by the golden gate quartet (this is before the Jubalaires, who did share some of the same members.)

  • @zapwai over cash?

  • Elvis didn't write this song.

  • this version shoulda been in the Ladykillers, Coens version

  • @mitsu92gto I don't even believe Elvis was the one who made this song. It has such a long and crazy history...

  • @MrLazyAzn

    Well, elvis' song-writers, more like.

  • People are dumb... this isn't a cover of Johnny Cash! Johnny Cash did do a cover on Elvis Presleys song "Run On" just like Moby did here.

  • see if you can find Odetta's version!

If I duck and dodge, God's gonna gut me down.

    Thank God I'm not religious.

Being so, such such as this, is wonderful.

"Such is life" - Ned Kelly.

    Thankyou for posting this.

  • brilliant album

  • This is such a chill song.

  • 12 people cant run

  • Johnny Cash's version is better :))

  • @akidforever92>>>>>that is so funny! har har har ha ha ha heeh eeeeeeahhhhahahahahahah!

  • God Almighty gonna cut down 12 people.

  • Santa brought me the Best Of Moby...loving it :)

  • fucking amazing song. I want tabs to play this on piano

  • you guys do know that this is a cover of Johnny Cash's song "God's Gonna Cut You Down"

  • @akidforever92

So Moby covered a song from a 2006 Cash album on Play, which was released in 1999?

It's a folk song, stupid. Learn to internet.

  • @glasnost0

    Learn to internet. Love it

  • @akidforever92 I would add that the sample vocals that Moby uses are from a 1943 recording. Johnny Cash was 11 when those vocals were recorded. Do you also think that your mom wrote the "Happy Birthday to You" song because she's the first person you heard sing it?

  • @akidforever92

Lol no its not... Ever heard of Elvis Pressly? ;) Johnny and Moby both covered his song.

  • Did you know this isn't a cover from Johnny Cash's song, but Elvis Presleys song "Run On"? lol

  • You are now aware that these lyrics are in Johny Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down"

  • 12 people dont like running

  • The part near the end is the best part of the song!

  • I grew up on this album. This is my favorite song. I remember when I was a little kid and my mom put it on the stereo and I danced. I was like 5, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I would "sing" the words but I didn't know, but I loved it. I still do and it brings a tear to my eye because these days the world is starting to bear down on me, and I remember the bliss I felt when I was a kid. All because of this song.

  • @Gatorbait66600 Don't worry, life will get better... just Run on!

  • @Gatorbait66600 The same here... "Play" made my childhood. I got this CD when it first came out... I must've been like 6 or 7 at the time, and I remember just sitting around all the time listening to it on my portable CD player and taking it wherever... Moby was the first musical influence I really had and I will always hold a place in my heart for "Play" and "18"...

  • Love the " Play" button from Moby

  • Everyone has forgotten about Moby, which is just as well I suppose. More for the rest of us...

  • really, not all that great.

  • Awesome

  • Awsome

  • Love it!

  • @wADe254 That's kind of harsh...

  • @wADe254 Agreed

  • jam

  • lol, ollie xD

  • Oh god... i don't know who's version of this is better:/ This or Johnny Cash. Way too hard to decide.

  • @KickArseToothbrush

    Johnny Cash is better! ;)

  • I love that chorus!

  • shabadabada

  • The cops should play this song over the speakers when they're chasing down a perp in their car.

  • thanks for the upload :) love moby

  • hehe Moby ^^

  • this cd reminds me of 6th grade awe the good times

  • i perfer johnny cash's version better

  • memories...such memories! :)

  • ok?

    i like it

  • What type of music is this? Before moby remixed it? I need to find some old-style beats like this.

  • @DownTheCan The original was by Bill Landford & The Landfordaires. See youtube.com/watch?v=Bx4RjlDq5D4

  • @DownTheCan elvis run on or johnny cash god's gonna cut you down are the same song as moby's version of run on but more traditional.

  • not what I was expecting.

  • I was singing this song at school people were all, "You have a horrible taste of music! It's gross. Here listen to Jason Derulo!" I mind-vomited.

I love Moby, just because they havne't heard of it doesn't mean it's bad. I mean, go out there and listen to other stuff other than what some channels on the radio play! I have NEVER heard this song on the radio. I wish I could.

    Moby is the best.....EVER.

  • This version is pretty good, but Johnny Cash's version is amazing.

  • @Xjulieeeee yes it is but there is so much soul in them both

  • Fail.

  • @Gabricokun Your a fail.

  • @Berrypool001

    YOU'RE a fail YOURself.

  • @BackwardsTime Awwww, you're so sweet! :D

  • @Berrypool001

    Just saying.

  • Run On is a great Gospel song by Moby. Play Album is fantastic!

  • This is shit!

  • great!!

  • amazing tune, takes me back to my high school days-

    thank you

  • favorite moby song of all time.

  • there was bound to be one vegan with some skill :)

  • A man was asking another man why he was a vegan. The vegan man said, "I don't eat anything with eyes." The other man replied, "Oh, yeah? What about your wife?"

  • My mother introduced me to this amazing artist. I fell in love with his music. But, I lost the Mody disk I had in my mom's old car and I was heart broken. I'm so glad other's think he's just astounding. Run-on!

  • I am airwallk :D Moby needs to be more known; hes simply incredible!!

  • hope evryone is enjoying the song :D

  • @airwallk

thanks alot for putting him up :)

  • @airwallk This is the best song. I am an elvis Fan but i tell you something, this song is 1000 times better then the king's one.

  • @TheNeduk Cash's is the best though, IMHO.

  • @airwallk Yes we are.. Impossible to stay still when this plays :)

  • @airwallk you rock airwalk! this made my day! thanks for posting....

  • @airwallk ...I 4 sure am...thx 4 posting

  • @airwallk Sure am.

  • Stupid = Mathematical representing your personal opinions. Wait...

  • Elvis brought me here. God, Elvis great. This version is awesome too, in a different way than how Elvis and Cash's version are awesome.

  • Elvis Presley > both of those covers.

  • @wilnich592: Elvis stole a bunch of his music and his style from true creators- "back-biter".. guess God cut him down, eh? whatcha think?? ha..

  • @BrownPeopleGetUp Give me a break. Presley grew up singing this music and if Mahalia Jackson loved him, what's your problem?

  • @tullvis just becasue she like him doesn't mean he wasn't a no talent asshole ripping off black people's music in the great words of Public Enemy Elvis was ahero to most but he NEVER meant shit to me.

  • @BrownPeopleGetUp This was a Medieval folk song, it's hard to

    "steal" something like that.

  • @TeenagKam1kaz3

Additionally, to claim that Elvis stole it is wrong, because Elvis didn't write any of his music anyway, he was one of the first manufactured acts.

  • you are one brilliant man, Moby.

and whoever compared johnny cash to "this" is lame.. you're comparing apples to oranges, buddy.

  • Comment removed

  • This > Everything else

  • wrong

  • somehow lol 5*

  • It is "you may throw your rock, [then] hide your *hand*", not "your head". as in, throw a rock at somebody, then pretend you didn't do it.

just the kind of crap sinners do. :)
