I have this monitor and I don't know what you're talking about when using an HDMI device. I used this monitor to play my PS3 for a few months before getting a 32" HDTV and the image was 1920x1080 centered on the monitor with black bars along the top and bottom. Same goes for my 360.
The sharpness is very good. The color seems accurate and looks very vibrant compared to some other displays of the same age. There is not any "fuzziness". The only complaint I have with this monitor is that the backlight bleeds a tiny bit around some parts of the side. It is only noticeable when the screen is completely black.
You can also use the VGA port to plug your 360 in if the HDMI port is used. Then you just need an adaptor that converts the Red + White audio-cables to a single 3.5mm phone jack. Then plug that into the 3.5mm input to get sound.
That's setup I use. DVI for PC, HDMI for PS3, VGA for Xbox 360 (also Wii later)
ok my buddy gave me a syncmaster 940t for free cause it didnt turn on. the led blinks a little then it turns off. then it repeats until you turn it off. what do you guys think? power supply? fuse? i got it for free, now how do I fix it?
also, whats DVI? How could I use it and how can I use the two usb ports on my monitor? what are they for? Total newb questions but hey at least i can admit im totally oblivious to this. Thats why i come to the pros right here on youtube lol
DVI stands for Digital Video Interface. The two USB ports are to be used as a USB hub, there is a third port (the "D" shape / "printer USB"), you run a cable from that port to the computer.
As far as the problems that you were talking about, the only thing I can think off of the top of my head is to make sure that you are on the right video input source. Good luck!!
Hi, i bought a Syncmaster 2494HM a few weeks ago. Nice monitor but i have 1 problem with it. Let's say the monitor looks a little "dirty". Some people say it's some kind of coating they put on their monitors, anyone here has the same problem? I find it kinda annoying, wish there was a solution :(
On my samsung I have noticed that when it is turned off that the screen looks like it has a odd film on it. That makes it look and feel a little different from most LCD monitors.
But when I have the monitor on I don't see it anymore.
That's just a matte finish so it doesn't have glare/reflections. But I don't get it when you said it looks and feels different from most LCD monitors?
i have this monitor `one year, and i cant say anything wrong about him. Is the best product of monitors iv ever seen. I want to find this one, and i found it. He have only positiv sites. Love this monitor!
I have had this monitor for close to a year now and the quality is great. A couple of months ago I got blu-ray for my machine and have been watching the movies in the 1080p resolution and I have not noticed any problem with the picture being stretched in any way. Also I play COD4 with this monitor and the picture quality is great and I have not noticed any picture lag while playing the game. I would recommend this monitor to anyone.
Which I was making that comment more towards the people that are going to be using it for strictly computer use. Considering you will get a higher resolution when you play the computer games and better quality.
@HenkSpankK i think they are pretty much equal, but the BX has 2 HDMI inputs instead of one. therefor the 2493 has an DVI input. The quality of the picture should be the same though
The samsung dealer i took it from tould me that I caould return it if in the first 3 days any dead pixels appeared (nothing appeared for me), so I hope it's the same with urs (samsung dealer), so u can return it and exchange it.
what r u talkin' about? most PC LCD monitors have a aspect ratio of 16:10. So no, they don't look like magic. they look stretched. unless that's what you like..
If you are serious about gaming, I would just recommend buying a 1080p LCD tv (16:9). Like your saying most computers are of a 16:10 ratio, so your almost always going to run into a conflict with the image.
..if you're serious about gaming you should be going for a Sony GDM-FW900 or some other high-end CRT. You can just get an HDMI -> VGA adaptor if you're planning on using it with one of those shiny new, overrated terribad consoles or for HDTV, not to mention the desktop real estate you get at 2304x1440 (at a decent refresh rate too). LCD isn't worthy of replacing CRT. You've gotta make a tradeoff between picture quality and performance, when you could just take a cheaper CRT that gives you both.
If you're not playing any really fast games, or you're not playing competitively I guess it's not so important, to the average player a few ms probably won't mean much, so I guess it does come down to personal preference. Some people prefer the LCD "look" and think CRTs look blurry, other people think the opposite. But if you're really serious about gaming, at a competitive level, you should look into a CRT. Sony (or relabelled SGI/HP versions) GDM-FW900 and CPD-520/P are a safe bet.
If you want to have a ton of space on your screen, then go for it. I am very glad I bought it because I can have several things opened at once without having to switch between them.
If you will only be using this for your PS3, then I would considering a 32-37 inch LCD tv (1080p). But this screen will still look very nice (as long as it is configured right, at stock settings it will look bury, It will be "squeezed" on the sides, an circle will look more like an oval). I don't mind the way it looks, it still looks very clear. I will have a video on what HDMI consails look like on the screen coming out pretty soon.
wow looks awesome! so dis is cheaper than you buy a lcd tv? and if you play(me ps3) the cpu should on too??? and how much did you pay too grab that samsung???? i might get it...and is the resolution is like on other lcd tv?????ty for vid
I got this for about $450 (U.S.). As far as size, this would be a little more expensive or about the same as a 24 inch lcd tv. An lcd tv that small probably is only 720p, not 1080p like this screen displays in.
It is a little more expensive (about $50) but it is what ever suits you best. If you spend more time watching the tv then using the computer, then get a lcd tv, but if you spend more time on the computer, get this monitor. What do you mean by CPU, if you are referring to a computer then yes, my computer is on while i play. I just switch the screen back and forth.
Resolution is not as good as some high end HDTV, but is better than those vizio and cheap brand lcd tv. You can do samething as hdtv except can't watch tv, no big deal there's tv tuner out there for monitor that don't had pc. But you could just use this monitor for all it one, pc, tv, console.
I had that problem at first, but I went into the setting and made it so that instead of stretching the image, it will fit all the pixels onto the screen. the only downside to this is that it is a little out of proportion (a circle looks like an oval)
Ya. First hit the menu button on the monitor. Then scroll down to "Setup" hit the enter / source key on the monitor then scroll all the way down to "AV Mode" (you wont see it at first but keep scrolling) then select off. Then you should see it "zoom out". Note: make sure you have the xbox on and the monitor set to HDMI when you do this. Hope this helps!

Just to add onto my earlier comment.
But a reason it may seem to look dirty is that it doesn't have a glossy look to the screen.
