  • dont even put your glasses on doesnt help a bit!

  • I studied diplomacy and international relations in college, did pretty well, and if I join the foreign service, I need to render long laborious years to get the position he will be getting. And now, this gentleman who does not even know the definition of Hard Power, Soft Power, (and I bet, charm offensive) will get an ambassadorial post easily?

Mr. President, is this your choice?!?

No wonder, birds of the same feather flock together..

  • I do not know this guy nor support his supposed incompetencies. But I commend the way he put up with the senator's embarrassment 101 like a student to a high school teacher. Except these people are both adults and have their respected positions in government. So yeah, if he can't define diplomacy ---- he certainly was able to act it out by not losing his temper. There would've been shoes or bottled water flying somewhere!! :)

  • Sigh!

Just wondering if this guy was asked if he needs an interpreter so they can get coherent answers from him. He seemed to be not fluent in English nor Tagalog.

The whole exercise is an embarrassment to both parties in my opinion. Obviously this guy cannot establish his compentency. The brilliant senator already knew that - but to continue with definition of terms like a vocab. skill test in high school to further embarrass the guy is pointless. Also Webster is better than quoting Wiki.

  • tanga talaga ang mga intsik

  • omg!

  • HUWAAAAT I CANNOT BELIEVE HE'S AN AMBASSADOR! OMGGG. I'm studying to become a diplomat and Im hearing this kind from Ambassador??!! I cannot believe he passed civil service examination in the govt. Buti na lang!

  • hahaha.... Sen. Osmena is giving him a hard time because Osmena just want to show to everyone what kind of Ambassador the Philippine government want to send over to China... hahaha

  • tsk!.. LOW IQ AMBASSADOR???!!!

  • this is what we have and what you called diplomatic person to other country?shame on you asshole!you better perform delikadeza asshole!!

  • ano kaya layunin ni mr. lee ?? kilalaning mabuti !

  • Sen Osmena, please refer to more scholarly materials when you wanna define a concept other than wikipedia.

  • OSMENIA is just being an assshole,he already gave him somewhat of an asnwr, and that should have been acceptable defiinition of diplomacy.... Osmenia is making sure that he exerts superior position over the other gentleman when it is clear that both of them are stateman...one thing i learn about Job interview, is that you must always show that you have something to offer, and must speak with respect, but with full command and knowledge of the subject

  • I can't believe this! I don't want to finish watching! So annoying! X(

  • Parang oral test lang.

  • The Philippines will surely lose its hold on Spratly Islands. That's for sure.

  • Man, grammar pa lang bagsak na eh. We're studying so hard just to pass that civil service exam and he gets appointed and runs everything without knowing anything. Ugh I don't wanna watch this any further!

  • Wow! Now i know where i will apply for work and see the world for free! Dfa here i come!

  • This is the kind of people Aquino appoints. Grabe!!! Tapos, ang mga Pilipino, bilib na bilib sa kanya. Yikes!!!

  • If this guy is an ambassador, it means i could most definitely become one!!!

  • He has no idea what he's job is. Gone are the days of such people as Carlos Romulo. A real ambassador MUST know all the angles of such topics specially the technicalities. You don't have to be a Harvard grad or a Cum Laude of good schools, at least you should now the basics. If you are a carpenter and I asked you how what to buy, where to buy materials, at least you cant give a clear and right answer. I will not hire a carpenter who dont even know the diff between a hammer and a saw.

  • @Ihertuerdegryffondr our diplomat is also in political appointees so there's no difference between your political system. It is not about to pass the exams it is about the integrity of a person. Just give him time and I bet he's not that stupid as you think.....

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax dude, integrity is not the only requirement... you must also have a working knowledge of what diplomacy actually is and what a diplomat is supposed to do. He does not have that. We, Filipinos, aspire for a government not just of integrity but one with competence. Unfortunately, when it comes to critical posts such as that of China, we do not have the luxury of betting whether or not he is "not that stupid."

  • @mwyredbyG WHY IS THE CHINESE WILL ASK MR. LEE WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF DIPLOMACY?OR WILL ASK ANY WORD TO DEFINE IN ENGLISH!!..IT IS A STUPID THINKING..LET HIM DO HIS JOB...THAT'S HOW WE PROGRESS NOT OUR ENGLISH DICTIONARY!!!...LOOK AT THOSE WHO KNOWS TOO MUCH ENGLISH WHAT THEY DID TO YOUR COUNTRY??TO MUCH KNOW KNOW AND KNOWLEDGEABLE IN ENGLISH!!MRS. ARROYO FOR EXAMPLE FROM HARVARD UNIVERSITY DID SHE DO GOOD IN YOUR COUNTRY???I GUESS NOT..

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax This is not about the use or misuse of the English language. I'm sure you're not Filipino, because you sure are being angry on a myopic perception of this incident.

The issue here is about how fit Mr Lee is for the position of ambassador to China, an important country. And since the position of ambassador to China carries a VERY GREAT RESPONSIBILITY, then the person who should be given this post is someone who is highly trained in diplomacy-who in fact knows what diplomacy is

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax And again, I think you are not Filipino because you don't understand the context of the situation.

Filipinos who wish to get into diplomacy and foreign affairs have to become foreign service officers (FSOs). To become an FSO, one has to pass one of the toughest exams in the country-less than 10 in 500 pass annually. Once they pass, FSOs build a career in foreign service and ideally become an ambassador after years of experience and training. Unfortunately, not everyone...

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax ...gets to head a foreign post, because of POLITICAL APPOINTEES. I'm not saying political appointees are incompetent, but their competence should certainly be scrutinized to ensure that the Philippines has a representative in China who can handle the multidimensional aspects of being an ambassador.

Based on Mr Lee's answers, there is good reason to say that he may not be fit for the position and the Philippines is better off with a career ambassador, not a political appointee.

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax And you know what, based on Mr Lee's answers, I think he would have given the same answers in this public hearing whatever language he preferred to give them - be it Chinese (with an interpreter, of course) or Filipino. And his answers show that the delicate relations between the Philippines and China are not in good hands. It is unfortunate that Mr Lee had to be embarrassed this way, but it would have been a bigger problem if we don't have the right person for the job.

  • @BarbaraIsabelaax You didnt get the point. How will he do his job if he don't even know what his job is. You dont have to be a genius to know what your job is.

  • If I were him, I would decline the nomination. But I am not him and ALL this is simply embarrassing. How can we send someone to China that does not even know the definitions of the basic terms relating to diplomacy? Insane! I think the spectators in the room are bored to death.

  • Wish Mr. Lee speak to him in Chinese then Mr. Osmena will shut up!This video is insulting but as you can see there's the guy was humiliating and humble filipinos should be proud of him he is not an ass....good luck Mr. Lee!!...

  • why filipinos are trying to pretend that know english well??are the filipinos not proud of their mother tongue??that's why there's no progressive in the country.Look at Beijing they dont' speak English they speak their own language now they almost dominant the whole world think about it Mr. Osmena!!...

  • just like all those represent to any other country they dont speak english they have interpreter so why are you giving a hard time mr. osmena???you are insulting the president man!!!this guy is not going to learn english he has to communicate chinese man!!!come on!!

  • what the heck why he's questioning him like a kindergarten???he is a diplomat in beijing he is not going to america to speak english is mR. Osmena nows chinese???you shut up Man!!!

  • surprise quiz!!!! sorry sir I didn't study last night!!!!

  • surprise quiz!!!! sorry sir i did not study last night!!!

  • 77 years old na kasi

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! For the sake of TUWID NA DAAN!, We are on in the shaky ground on WEST PHILIPPINE SEA, we need strong diplomat to get our interest..

  • bata yan ni Pnoy!

  • OMG, I can't even... why the heck would they even consider him to represent the philippine government? :|

  • Bobo !

  • WTF!?

  • 6:08 --> who is that sleeping?!

  • ftw miriam santiago - feels like spelling bee final round.

  • mr lee, ang lupit mo. mahi-high blood ako sa iyo. you should at least have the I.Q to know if you are qualified for the job and the decency and delikadeza to turn it down if you know and understand you are not.

  • This is a very good example na dapat lahat ng nakaupo sa gobyerno may pinagaral at may alam sa politika.

  • @maija022 - well said.

  • Hard Power spelled as H-A-R-D Power.. si Mirriam ba yun? haha!! panalo.. :))

  • haha bogoa brute lee oi.

  • Sino ba yan ang nakatulog na babae sa likod ni Osmena starting at 4:26? Baka ganyan din ang ginagawa ni Mr. Lee sa iskwelahan dati? LOL!!!

  • If he has no experience, no knowledge, can't even understand a word he's saying and seems like a drunkard...then the only reason why this nincompoop was appointed was...UTANG NA LOOB!! Daang Matuwid PeeNOy!!!

  • im sorry but i dont think a wikipedia definition is ever acceptable... especially in government records. kakahiya

  • @mcone33 Osmena is neither a diplomat nor is he an expert in Pol. Science, but he is a Senator, and an able one at that. He quoted wikipedia not because it is definitive, he did it to show the unfortunate Ambassador that his definition of diplomacy doesn't even come close to one that is available to all laymen. Notice that he did not have to acknowledge that his source is wikipedia- you must wonder why he did. More importantly, his genuine concern for the country makes him not "nakakahiya."

  • how could Pnoy choose someone like him...was he appointed by the president?

  • sobrang bobo. haha

  • is this the person who is suppose to represent our country ?

  • how did PNOY picked this guy, if PNOY wasn't thinking as to who will he assigned to such position.... i i i.... tsk tsk tsk no comment!!!!

  • Very disheartening but who are we to judge him? read my post on spunkybabe.blogspot.com

  • "we're trying to test your competence." pfft. baket yung trabaho ba ng ambassador mag-take ng exams? if they want to test the guy's competence bigyan nila ng sitwasyon para makita nila ang diskarte. puro pasikat naman tong si osmena talaga o.

  • @JOEtheHOTTIE Hindi lahat ng bagay nadadaan sa "diskarte" and this is a test of competence not social skills. He can't even articulately express himself here or answer basic questions that diplomats must know. He was already given two months to review the material.

  • @JOEtheHOTTIE eh hindi nga sya maka sagot ng simpleng tanong at basic terms sa trabaho nya. papano ka maka-usap sa diplomats kung di mo naman naiintindihan mga pinapagusapan.

  • @thatRICOlocsin I totally agree with you. Para saken tama lang na english ang medium of language nila since he will be representing our country to other nation, specifically China. tama lang na english ang language. I do not question the way osmena does the interview kasi kung sa ibang bansa yan mas dudurugin pa sya, He should know how to handle pressure and besides kung prepared sya at may alam talaga sya Kaya nyang sagutin kahit anong tanong sa kanya..

  • @JOEtheHOTTIE bakit? do you want to represent him on the chinese court to ask for your plea? Joe, ang problema dito was that a lot of people will rely on you as ambassador. How can u respond "what is the difference between phil sea and south china sea with " "I THINK SO...".

Pasikat si Osmeña coz he shines away sa mga bobo, by the way he was paid to do this. Do you want him to sign "APPROVED". Gud luck.

  • @JOEtheHOTTIE Seriously? Exams? I hope you're a kindergarten student or else I don't think you'll get hired by a reputable organization. clue: it's like when you are interviewed for a job.

  • bullying?! this is just a simple question and answer interview pertaining to the job he is supposed to be doing! are you kidding me?! this is an insult to the Chinese government, sending a clown of an ambassador for them to deal with. not to mention an insult to the intelligence of the Filipino people. Tangna this talaga oo..... i don't have any problems with KKK, pero naman.. naman! yung qualified man lang sana. at least yung mas mataas ang IQ sa bao ng niyog. appointed by one nga naman pala.

  • Osmena is bullying the poor guy... tsk tsk...

  • @simoncpu How is that bullying? He's simply asking basic questions that a diplomat must already know.

  • @simoncpu If you want a job then you have to qualify for that job and you need to go through a screening process. Osmena is just doing his job in making sure this guy is qualified. If you don't know the basic, then how will you be in the real picture?

  • @thatRICOlocsin Yes, Osmena looks like he's testing the poor guy. However, this is politics, and there is a (slight?) possibility that they're simply making a fool out of Lee. I wonder how he'd fare the interview had he been allowed to use his native language.

  • @simoncpu - How do you hire employees? Or have you ever hired one??? Osmena's questions can be answered by a high school student. Anong politics ka diyan??? By the way do think "Ambassador" Lee is sober???

  • @simoncpu respectfully, I don't think he's making a fool of him. Tinagalog sya after this (look at part 2) and still the guy answered as if he were tripping balls.

  • @simoncpu grilling is not bullying. tsk tsk.

  • nakakaintindi ba ng english to?

  • Ang epic lang nung nag cut in na si Miriam at mag "Hard Power, H-A-R-D P-O-W-E-R. HARD POWER."

  • wtf?! >.<

  • OMG AND TO THINK WE HAVE TO PUT THIS COUNTRY'S FOREIGN POLICY CONCERNS TO THIS CLOWN? WTF IS THE PALACE'S CLOWN DOING? ASSIGNING ANOTHER CLOWN TO A SENSITIVE POST?

  • Da fuq. This guy is good business-wise but not foreign relations-wise! And he's affiliated with TW's Kuomintang Party. WTF were you thinking President Noynoy when you appointed this guy as our ENVOY TO CHINA? stupid stupid STUPID!
