Gaddafi was never a threat to the west since he allowed western powers to move in and see if he's building any atomic bomb or not. I remember when he allowed inspectors to get in Libya as soon as Iraq was attack back in 2003. So for the west there was no reason to destroy Libya. The group was spoted befor the ambush could be sprung and at the very beginning you here a round fired and one man in the group is shot dead. He was supose to fire the RPG. after he is shot you can see that the machine gunner back down the hill this indicate that they have no idea where the incoming fire is coming from.
