IM NOT INTO base ball much any more....mmoved on to other interests however in my memorie there is one crazy image that I will never forget .That is the insane over kill of Dave Kingman ,he missed alot, struck out too much, was never much for average. But anyone who was around at the time will tell you he was fun to watch when they flew out of the park...and they did 440 plus times.
I personally saw Kingman hit a ball completely out of Shea Stadium. It hit a school bus in the parking lot. And the wind was not blowing out that day! He was a one dimensional player. No doubt about it. His personality left a lot to be desired. He didn't care if people-even his own teammates- liked him. At least he wasn't a phony. I find that refreshing in this day of media whores.
Horrible hitter. It's no wonder he was allowed to stay in the majors. And man' could this guy strike out. He gave it a whole new meaning. He sucked as a person too. Wouldn't sign any autographs for fans. Come out into the parking lot, all pissed off and wouldn't even look anyone in the eye.
@ImOfNope he was an excellent power hitter during a pitching era hitting 236 for his era stupid is like 25-0 and he walked enough times to keep some pace with his walks and he hit for great power a classic power like Boog Powell or Fred Vaugh Cecil fielder etc. You didnt play for a decade and a half almost in MLB so stfu
@deltapunk21 You STFU! Asshole. I met this guy on several occasions, watched him play for a number of years and he was an asshole. Very similar to you. The only thing he did worthwhile was save that flag, which was probably a stunt he paid the two goods to do. I even watched him march in the parade with that flag, with the old Mayor Daley, so you come back here and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about now.
@ImOfNope I heard that you once gave Rusty Staub and Lee Mazzilli blowjobs during a rain delay at Shea. Why dont you like Dave Kingman because he liked girls?
@tdforgaters444 No it aint he wasa power hitter in the NL during baseballs second deadball era after the YEAR OF THE PITCHER in 68 his BA is illusional it in reality for his time adjusted to now would be 250 plus his power was excellent and he hit consisently 30 plus homerunes many a season.
Yeah, he was a major league asshole. And his .236 Average is terrible. But he hit 442 Career Homeruns. And would have hit more if he wasn't forced out the League.
No he did not' hit the farthest home runs of any player. He hit them very high. The wind carried a lot of his high dingers out of the park. They used to try to measure his shots outside of Wrigley Field, to see if they could claim the longer shot then Mantle hit decades ago. Now' if anyone hits them long, they are accused of steroids and rightfully so.
I grew up in Chicago in the 70's watching Cubs baseball - Kingman, Buckner, Krukow, etc. And who could forget Jack Brickhouse? Bad teams but great memories....
I remember when he & Dale Murphy were battling for most homerun at one point. I believe Dale won that one, what i also remember about Kingman, was everytime he hit a homerun he would stand there & waited to see if it went over, absolutely BAD ASS!!!
If you ever saw Kingman play, the have to remember that BIG swing! I never saw a player hit longer home runs, and as a 13 year old, rooting for a team that never seemed to be very good, you were excited by the massive home runs. He wasn't very good, all around, but he was like the boxer with a possibility of landing a knock-out punch.
I remember kingman hitting a home run 4 houses down on fremont street,When they talk about blast they never mention that one! I will never forget that one it ended up on the porch of that house,That had to be the longest home run in baseball history.....
Thanks for posting, I can't believe with all that WGN Superstation footage of Kingman with the Cubs floating around that someone hasn't posted some here at YouTube!
