Sum 41 is excellent in making repetitive songs on one album. In my opinion, Chuck is the most versatile album they made. Underclass Hero has got some cool tracks, but after listening to the first 3 tracks, you don't need to really listen to everything to get the impression of the album (except for King of the Contradiction).

I think that Deryck was right. I'm a bassist myself, and also play guitar, and also a songwriter and I see what he was going for and it really wouldnt have been as powerful if he had gone higher, done what he wanted to do.

i feel for deryck, i'm the guitarist/singer/songwriter in my band, and not gonna lie i'm kinda a control freak about the shit we come up w/, but i def think it's sometimes a pain to tell the bassist or drummer to something a certain way when they don't wanna, but if you're the one who wrote the song in the first place (like deryck), i think you've got every right to do that.

Ye, I get the that feeling too. Though I can relate a LOT to it as well. The songs that he create are like his babies and when discussing the arrangements of the songs it's like arguing over how it should be raised.

That's what I like about my band. Most of the song writing is done by me and the guitarist. When Steve brings a riff, he just plays, I make a bassline, and the drummer does his thing. When I bring in a riff, I let Steve doe what he wants, and the drummer does what he wants. So in theory, all the songs are written by all us. We are a band, no the ______ Solo Project.

i can understand where both dyreck and cone are coming from arguing over that bass part, but dyreck wrote the song and thats what HE wants it to be and its fucking annoying when someone in your band doesnt play it the way it is written

MM that's true, but it's kinda stupid if a bandmate can take the song in a new direction that actually sounds better. Always be open for improvement, instead of being stuck up your own arse is probably the moral of this comment :P

Well just because Deryck is the producer doesn't mean he should restrict Cone's parts. I mean, he writes the songs AND chooses how he wants the band (the bass) to play their parts? Cone can't get creative if Deryck restricts him. Plus, when Greig Nori was producer he seemed to keep everything level and bass parts weren't repetative. It's good that they argue and get it out... but I think Cone should get to play what he wants too sometimes.
