  • Excellent job!

  • Nevermind just watched another one of your vids on your paint. Thx anyways:)

  • I really like it! My ( mancave) has no windows so I too have to brush paint or bring into the garage and rattle can until can be handled and brought back in for acceptable curing temps. I seen a couple cans of humbrol enamel in the picks, do you prefer enamel over acrylic for brushing? I like enamel for small tech pieces because it's easy to manipulate with toothpick but on a large surface I'm not to sure. Thanks! And love your vids!!

  • I prefer Airfix models, but Tamyia models are good too...

  • I always find Humbrol's No 11 silver gives a poor finish. Did you use an airbrush?

  • @Ferrari312pb Nope, I always handbrush... The trick with Humbrol 11 is to do about 3 thin layers, making sure the paint has dried properly between each layer.. Needless to say the paint needs to be THOROUGHLY stirred and shaken... and stirred again.. :)

  • nice, nice, nice, nice!!!

  • @kellerbodenplatten Thanks, thanks, thanks, thanks... :)

  • @BasicModelling what do you think about Zvezda models? How accurate are they?

  • @lodhol I haven't built many Zvezda kits, but I have heard some good things about them.. :) I guess they are like any other kits, some are good and some not so good.. :) I have a Zvezda 1/72 MiG-21 to build, and also an 1/72 IL-2, and both those kits look VERY good to me... :) :) I don't know what their armour kits are like, though...

  • @Pvt.marx... thinking of buying a REAL P-51 ya say?.... I take it you're a millionaire as well as a very capable pilot?

  • Dude awesome painting and decalling!

  • @stealthasasin97 Thank you very very much. :)

  • fantastic model! i was going to buy this and add some resign parts, how would u get actual reflective silver paint on the body and also how much are the seatbelts?

  • @MrFlix76 If you airbrush you can buy a special high gloss silver paint, which comes in several shades.. the range is called 'alclad'.. I brush by hand, as you no doubt know, so I just use Humbrol No.!!.. as for the etched brass seatbelts, they were only a couple of pounds when I bought them, they are not all that expensive.. :)

  • @BasicModelling thanks i might invest in some :D

  • @MrFlix76 What, 'alclad'?? It is very good... says those who use it.. :)

  • @MrFlix76

  • beautiful kit

  • @daamardeep Thank you... :) :)

  • A very nice touch playing jazz music while discussing a P-51 build. Brings back memories of WWII years.

  • @monsterzeroJr That was partly the idea... :) :)

  • Very nice painting

  • @thehjupo Thank you.. :) I am quite pleased with that model.. :)

  • How much did this one cost? :) fantastic end result !!! :)

  • @Usdownz Thanks... I paid about £16 for it in the local hobby shop, which has now closed.. Det blir val runt 160 kronor i svenska pengar, enligt gallande vaxelkurs.. men jag tror den kostar mer an sa i Sverige, modeller brukar vara dyrare hemma an har i England.. :P

  • do you have o scribe this?? p-51d? i have the 9th AF

  • @jige21 No scribing needed, it has recessed panel lines.. a beautiful kit!! :)

  • @BasicModelling Thank you dogg...i destroyed my kit..gotta buy a new one...am noob at this stuff...More power!

  • @jige21 Just take your time.. don't rush with the build.. :)

  • I had a ride in a S2-A twice with The Canadian Reds back in '78,'79 when I was 11 and 12. They were based in my hometown of Langley, BC Canada.

  • @gep210 Lucky you.. :) :) I'm yet to fly in anything, from anywhere.. :) :)

  • @BasicModelling im thinking of buying a REAL p-51 Mustang and they have the Petie the 2nd for sale the real steal! but which one should i but the red one or this one?

  • @PvtMarx45 I'd go for this one.. but then I haven't seen the red one so I can't tell.. I'd love to have the real deal too, even if somebody else would have to fly it for me.. :)

  • I beg to differ with you. Anyone who is interested in aviation knows what these planes are, unless you are building a little known Italian plane or an unknown Czech or Japanese plane. I am sure people will know any WWII American, German or British plane which are usually built on these Youtube channels as myself have since I was a youngster. I'm don't to argue with you about this. Anyway nice building. I'm building a 1/32 scale Pitts S2B at the moment and can use any tips I can get.

  • @gep210 Well, the history part is there for those who DON'T know.. all the same!! :) Right now I have completed another Spitfire video of, my final two builds of February, and it should please you to know I have no history lesson there at all.. :) The Pitts S2B is a beauty of a plane, I have been lucky to see one perform a few times at the annual local fly-ins at the old US WWII Airfield around the corner.. sadly they stopped arranging them back in 2006 :( I haven't built one in any scale (cont)

  • (cont) so can offer very little help.. Sadly my experience of building biplanes in general is equally low.. but I wish you good luck!! :) At least there don't seem to be much rigging involved.. :)

  • Why do we always need a history lesson on these planes. We all know what a P-51 Mustang is, and what it did in WWII. Just show us the build.

  • @gep210 I'm glad YOU know the history behind it.. but I have quite a few subs who DON'T know.. I cover for all! Feel free to fast forward to the bits you find interesting.. if any at all! :) My videos are there to be watched, for those who like them.. and those who don't like them, well, they don't have to watch them at all.. :) I'm happy either way...

  • i love the p-51 mustang thanks a lot for building a tamiya kit in 1/48 scale :)

are you giung to boild another of these tamiya kits??

    thank you Bruno

  • @techdeckfan78I'm hoping too get, and build, a Tamiya 1/48 P-47 Thunderbolt.. at some point! The only other Tamiya aircraft kit I have at the moment is a Fw 190 in 1/72 scale.. :) I also have some 1/35 scale armour..

  • Nice build... I am thinking of either finishing off some 1:32 models (like my Bf 109) or buying some more because I a getting a bit tired of 1:72 but I still have a lot of 1:72 Scale in my stash - I just have lots of 1:32 Scale models to paint, such as the Bf 109 and the Seafire!). You did a great job on this 1:48 scale kit :) :) I like the music - that includes the mustang at the start :) 4 choices of aircraft is good! What sort of wash did you use? Great job :)

  • @2002AndThank you very much!! I build mainly 1/72 to save space.. :) As for the wash, I tend to use mainly 'Citadel - Badab Black' from the Games Workshop range.. That seem to work quite well for me.. :)

  • we all know you build, only those who can't see past their noses would say anything else

yes the detail in this is stunning

  • @leokimvideo Thank you... :)

  • Aah yes, welcome to the wonderfull world of Tamiya models!!

That's another nice build! (Sorry for the late comment, only just spotted this!).

  • @bruce3371 No comments are ever too late... :) But thank you.. I want to get a Tamiya P-47 D Thunderbolt as well, and hope to do so at some point.. only thing is, it's almost twice the price to the Mustang.. :P

  • @BasicModelling I still have my Tamiya 1:48 Sea Harrier model I built a while ago, I do like their 1:48 range of aircraft. They're the dog's proverbials lol

Tamiya models may be a bit pricey, but you know you're paying for quality :)

There I go again, with my Tamiya bias!!

  • @bruce3371 That's ok.. I can't really say I have a favourite range of kits, I have found good and bad kits from all manufacturers.. :) I have a nice little Tamiya 1/72 Fw 190 to build at some point.. I will make it a captured plane in RAF camo & markings.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I havent personally built any Tamiya kits as of so far but due do money issues i find Revell the most attractive model kit maker so far. Their 72 range is quite nice even if it is a bit overpriced in estonia.

  • what was the green paint you used for the cockpit?

  • @ZondaX15 Humbrol 78 'Interior Green'.. :)

  • Nice model :) The Clacton Air Show footage was brilliant at the start :) I see what you mean with the green cockpit interior paint - it does look the correct shade for the cockpit of the real thing... the etched brass seat-belts make a very good edition to this model as well :) As you say the detail n the landing gear area of the air craft is superb! I am also going to try looking for the glue that you use for glueing the canopy now that you have revealed the name.I will look out for this model!

  • @2002And Please do.. it's a new re-release so should be readily available to buy still.. :)

  • She's a beauty Rob!

    Cheers mate! :)

    (cheesy I know)

  • @tenka45623 That's ok.. I like cheese.. :)

  • Wow! What a Masterpiece! May I know how did you paint the seatbelts of the seat? they are really small and if I try to paint it i will ruin the whole thing!

  • @Jedi2x98 Thank you.. I use etched brass seat belts, and in 1/48 scale they are quite 'large' and easy to paint! I primed them first, as shown in the video, and then just painted them grey, and the buckles silver.. :)

  • woooh mate this amazing how did you get thatt factory fresh coat

  • @MrHotrod68 By painting very carefully.. but this is far from factory fresh.. :) :)

  • @BasicModelling

true true maybe just a few flys around the city

  • @BasicModelling

and also ive never been good on the interior how did you get that small exact detail

  • One masterpiece! =)

  • @trainfart Thank you very much. :)

  • An altogether excellent build!

  • Admirable details on landing gear and cockpit! ;D It makes me feel so envious of your building skills... X)

  • @AlanMartinNala I was lucky this time, I guess.. :) :)

  • Imagine the accuracy and detail of a 1/24 scale Tamiya mustang.

  • @password1821 A larger scale kit doesn't not always automatically mean greater detail and / or accuracy.. but yes, a 1/24 scale Mustang should look good! :)

  • @BasicModelling Well, yeah, that really depends on the manufacturer, but have you seen the accuracy on Tamiya kits(well, most of them, anyway)?

  • @password1821 Well, yes.. this IS a Tamiya kit.. so yes, I have.. :)

  • Cool modelling Rob.

  • @drmagricola Thank you very much.. :) :)

  • Great Looking Mustang!!! Great Building Techniques as Usual!!!

  • @CTspeedshop Thank you.. I had great fun working on this model.. :)

  • Good stuff as always! - Have you done a video on how to do washes? If not that's something I'd be interested in seeing / learning how to do

  • @dave41184 I haven't yet done a 'wash' tutorial, as I'm not very good at that technique yet.. It's not too complicated on a natural metal / silver plane, but I'm having trouble making it look good on anything with a camo.. :)

  • SUWEET!!!

defenetly much more detailed than the Revell P-51 but not too far off.

  • @angryace13 The old Revell / Monogram kit has other advantages though, like the gun bays and other features.. each kit is good in its own way, I think.. :)

  • SUWEET!!!

  • @angryace13 Thank you very much.. :)

  • Absolute belter! Fantastic work there and great to see you doing 1/48!

I just picked up the Tamiya Bird Cage F4U-1/2 Corsair, so looking forward to getting stuck in about that as well as the Eduard Royale Class Hellcats I picked up from a recent show (£40 instead of £80!!!) also 1/48. Plus nearly finished the jug - the end is in sight!

  • @BradThunder Strangely eneough I bought a F4U Corsair the other day as well, albeit the Acadamey 1/72 variety.. :) Did you take any footage / photos at the show?? I haven't been to a show in ages, but hope to go to a couple in the spring, as always.. and also the Hendon show in May.. I still have a list of planes to film and take photos of.. :) :) Future 1/48 projects include the old Testors P-47 D, and an Italeri T-6 Texan.. maybe a HobbyBoss Hellcat as well, depending on other projects.. :)

  • Academy

  • i have many models which are in 1:48 scale and i dont have an airbrush, so i please could you give us some good tips on how to brush paint with no streky pint brush lnes, also have you got any 1:35 armour i the pipeline, if so i would love to see you tackle one, thanks.

  • @chuckers08 I use a flat brush for the basic coats of paint, and any camo is then added with a rounded brush.. the main thing is to make sure the paint is WELL STIRRED and smooth.. as for painting natural metal / silver, you will need at least 2 coats if not three.. and make sure it dries well inbetween! I do have some 1/35 scale armour, hoping to build a couple of 1/35 Tamiya SAS Jeeps sometime next year.. and maybe a Sherman tank! I had a nice kit but gave it away in last years competition..

  • gerat work and im the person who told you if you build a tamiya kit

  • @xXxJULIOXxX100 Well, if so, I say Thank you.. it was one of my more enjoyable builds.. great idea!! I'll hopefully get round to build a 1/48 Tamiya P-47 too, before too long.. :)

  • perfect model :)

  • @joelalcantar69 Thank you.. It was a joy to build!! :)

  • Awesome your models are like reall!

  • @tankman13p66 Then I have done a good job!! :) Thanks.. :)

  • Really excellent work! Love the details you brought out.

  • @Generalsplatton Thank you.. some models asks to be made properly, and this was one of them.. :) :)

  • So the plastic's a crisp -that's a rare treat. Brake cables made from a dog's lead - stops it going walkes I suppose. And what a great model - you Must'ang it up somewhere for everyone to see. Makes one feel quite Humbrle all in all

  • @MrRandomWritings I revell in your compliments.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I was stuck for something else to say, having been glued to the video!

  • Nice Rob!

thats the same kit I'm working on, but the way I'm building it is more complex with the aires detail sets and much more!!

the wheel bay from the kit is nice, but I am satisfied with what I have. Maybe I'll buid this kit again without any aires detail sets.

  • @bzzymatt Yes, I was tempted to get a resin set for the cockpit, to improve it further, but decided that building it OOB was good enough for me.. :) :) As for the wheelbays, I normally don't bother much with anything that is underneath a model anyway, as it won't really show unless you stick the finished mnodel on a mirror.. Mind you, having said that.. when you build a model in this scale or arger, it is worth adding the extra detail, I guess.. :)

  • Great Detail!

  • @pimpdaddypunk Thank you.. and yes, it was one of the better kits I have built in a long time! A great kit doesn't guarantee a good model, but it sure helps towards it.. :) :)

  • fantastic kit and model rob! :) i like large scale airplanes, maybe you could do some more in the future? in my opinion this model of the mustang is the best one i have seen in all the years.

  • @888HamilkarBarkas888 Thank you.. I have a P-39 Airacobra in 1/48 scale on the go.. but have lost some parts.. I also hope to build a T-6 Texan in 1/48 next year, and hopefully a P-47, I have a few 1/48 scale kits to get through.. :)

  • Shake 'n Bake!!!!

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 Sure is.. and it was so nice not having to use half a tube of filler on it.. :)

  • @BasicModelling must try it!, i may buy the Revell kit as well and do a comparison vid! I wonder who will win*

    *Sarcasm...

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 Yes, I do wonder... Mind you, having said that, I have already built the Revell / Monogram kit in 1/48, and I have another kit to build, and it's not all that bad.. :) It has some interesting features like open engine covers and gun bays.. which the Tamiya kit hasn't! :)

  • Sweet model!

    am also working on a P51 Mustang...but I lost the canopy :(

it's the cheap Revell Mustang from the local hobby shop and its a not so bad kit, almost finished...but without canopy

  • @BerndenLivien What scale is your kit.. is it the 1/72 scale or the 1/48 scale kit?

  • @BasicModelling it's ofcourse the 1/72 scale....lot's of cheap planes there

they also have tamiya scale planes (I dont know which scale, maybe it is 1/72) and matchbox (1/72) for not much €'s

  • @BerndenLivien I wish I could go there.. :)

  • Wow, great footage of the Mustang! A very authentic-looking model:)

  • @ajdpadbury Thank you.. I'm slowly getting there.. but I find natural metal planes easier to weather and 'wash', than planes painted in camo.. :)

  • beautifull !!

  • @oalithgow Thank you.. it was a fun build, and a very nice 'little' kit.. :)

  • Nice build, only issue I've got is that the Oxford Blue would've been a semi-gloss, not matte colour. Especially on 8th AF fighter aircraft, where they did have the time to keep up some semblance of aerodynamic sheen.

  • @GoodwoodAlpha Yes, I agree 100%.. I forgot to add a gloss varnish (or semigloss) before taking the photos, only realising once I had done the video.. but I didn't feel like doing it all over again! But yes, you are right.. :) The whole aircraft should have been quite shiny actually, but I wanted to practise some 'weathering' and washing...

  • That's a beautiful looking P-51 Mustang you've built! Really nice details! Very interesting info! Happy Holidays to you & your family!!

  • @fredachinnie64 Thank you.. I find that when you really enjoy building a model, (as I did this one) they tend to turn out extra nice... :) :) Happy Holidays to you and yours too.. :) :)

  • @billyCtv Thank you.. and yes! I am more a fan of the rugged P-47, but the P-51 is winning on me.. and they make some nice models too, as they have a great variation of nose art and paint schemes.. :)

  • Yahoo! One oF my favorites!

  • @Mecha999x The Mustang is a good fighter plane, and this kit is highly recommended.. :)

  • I heard before the mustang (car) was named after the plane, i thought it was named after the horse! Very nice model. Well detailed!

  • @wammyburger Yes, the car is definetely named after the plane.. and the plane is named after the horse! It's a bit confusing though, as the Mustang (car) has the horse as a symbol.. But the Mustangs based at Wormingford (a local WWII airfield) had a horse painted on their rudder..

  • Great plane..

I read Mustang must be a hightech flightplane back in time..

  • @aid2003 It sure was.. and it saw action in later wars as well, such asthe Korean war.. and was even produced after WWII, due to demand.. :0)

  • My favourite type of Mustang was the Mk. II B type, in British Desert camo, in 1942

  • @burnandtwist I'm planning to build a Mustang 'A' next year at some point, but it'll be in 1/72 scale, and in US markings.. I guess a British Mk.II in desert camo would look really good too.. :)

  • yeh same with tjohanne badab or devlan ?

and do you apply it watered down ?

and how do you apply it ?

    great vid (Y)

  • @pierrespringuel See my answer to tjohanne, I got your comment muddled up.. :) :)

  • Great stuff! :)) Is that a Citadel Wash Badab Black or Devlan Mud?

  • @tjohanne Thanks.. it is 'Badab Black', and I don't water it down.. not for a 1/48 scale model anyway, but I may water it down a bit next time I apply some to a 1/72 scale model.. :) I just brush it on with a fine tip brush, and after leaving it for a while wash off the excess with a cotton bud dipped in 'Klear'.. that seem to work well for me.. :)

  • once you have seen one P-51 model, you have seen them all (a play on former veep Agnew's views on ghettos) :) a nice model...so you must now build a Finnish ww two Lysander...check the Finnish mag I send you and you will find it there in black and white...best wishes :)

  • @granskare A Finnish Lysander has been planned for ages, but I think my next Finnish plane wil be a Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV, whenecer I get round to it.. :)

  • @BasicModelling I've heard that before :) btw, we had the good luck to see a P-51 being worked on...the landing gear was being tested...I think I took fotos but...

  • @granskare ..you lost the camera? Erased them by mistake.. can't find your computer? Have been approached by a Nigerian lawyer who wants to give you 6 million?

  • @BasicModelling it was 36 million pounds that I have won in the world lottery...I am on my way to pick up my winnings next week..I have sent in the documentation fee so I am all set :)

  • awesome looking model mate, when im on an IL2 mission with JPN vs US i usually fly a P-51 on bomber escort missions, awesome fighter to fly

  • @cestrianvlogger Yes, it was a very good fighter, just not as rugged & robust as the P-47.. :)

  • WOW! awesome build,I wish iwas as good as you mate.5 STARS.

  • @bakabomb45 ..and I wish I was better than I am.. :) :) I enjoyed this model though.. :) Thank you x 5... :)

  • What more can i say that i have'nt already said Rob ( chris dobs his cap) bravo on this one bud,i love it !

  • @primativemodelling Agreed.. I lack words too.. :) :)

  • ★★★★★

great job as only i wish i could do this

  • @MrHotrod68 I'm quite sure you can.. :)

  • Very well detailed.

  • @joluqa Yes, Tamiya kits normally means good quality.. :) Thanks.. :0)

  • i'm not a fan of the mustang and will properly never build one but it still a beautiful model you did (:

  • @svinehunden I'm not a fan of the Mustang either, being a Thunderbilt person myself.. yet I can't stop building the bl***y things.. :) :) This Tamiya kit is highly therapeutic.. virtually 'shake'n'bake'.. I wish all kits was like this one.. :0)

  • @BasicModelling yeah the kit looks awesome. maybe i will do a merlin feature some day and the i, of cause, also have to build the mustang...

it's like the apache... it's NOT a great machine before the britts do a little work on it ;)

  • @svinehunden Agreed... :) :)

  • Excellent! Superb building kit. I really liked it:)

  • @fmcVlad Thank you.. it was well worth the money, and for a Tamiya kit it wasn't overly expensive, actually.. :) I'm still hoping to get a Tamiya 1/48 scale P-47 D 'Bubbletop' at some point, and some Boxted decals.. :)

  • Very nice build and video once again your details and painting are outstanding.

  • @MisplacedTexan4 Thank you.. It's always easier to make a good job of a model, when you actually enjoy building it.. and this model ticked all the right boxes for me.. :) :)

  • Very nice modelling Rob.

    Thanks for using our music.

    Have a great weekend, Ferd.

  • @KENOEFF No problem there.. and a piece of music called 'Basic Blues' just had to be used in a video.. :) :) Glad I could use it.. :)

  • SUPER!

  • @19411945ussr Thank you very much.. :)

  • Ohhh yessss.

  • @stanwull Absolutely.. :)

  • That cockpit is genius.

  • @BlowDevilUp It's not bad... thanks.. :)

  • superb machine rob ★★★★★

did any mustang reach russia in lend-lease? i've never seen any in soviet VVS markings like aircobras, hurricanes etc.

  • @petrwarry72 The Russians had at least one Allison engined P-51 A on trial, but I don't think they got any Mustangs of any later versions. I certainly haven't seen any pictures or read up on any Soviet B, C or D type Mustangs..

  • @petrwarry72 the russians didn't mess around with mustangs that much, as for germans a whole different story!!!! germany had a lot of captured mustangs, but most where destroyed in air combat, i think there is only a hand full of mustangs with german markings, and all of them are in terrible (destroyed/heavily damaged) condition.

  • @petrwarry72 Three Mustang Mk.I fighters were evaluated in frontal conditions by 5 GIAP, but the fighter was disliked by the Soviet pilots and not used operationally.

-From Red Stars 4 by C-F.Geust and G.Petrov (great book btw)

  • @F14Lolcat thanks

  • @F14Lolcat Thank you.. I didn't know that.. but I have decals for one of them, in 1/72 scale.. I just need to find a good kit! :)

  • tamiya make great kits but they cost quite alot grrrrr

  • @SimpleModels This one wasn't that expensive actually.. very good value for money!! :)
