this movie changed my whole perspective on love. the idea of love and relationships used to repulse me and i used say why do people wanna go through all that negativity and drama but now i understand you must take the good with the bad and enjoy the happy memories and love as much as you can for as long as you can. i personally haven't found love yet but someday i look forward to it.
You know the background music right from the beginning which doesn't sound like its produced by any instrument, its actually played by a piano, but playbacked in reverse. I think the composer is a genius to have put that in.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I love movies where I notice something new every time I watch it. It's almost flawless and full of surprises.
It's not about soul mates, it's not about opposites I don't think. It's bigger than that. It's about accepting reality, not running away from it. The film speaks about love, and that you have to be realistic toward it, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying it, because it is life's greatest joy. You have to take the negatives, all the hell, but with them comes the good. The happy memories, the love. There's a price for it all, but this movie is saying that it's worth every bad memory.
This movie really touched my heart deeply. I must admit that a tear fell when watching it. The story is so beautiful and Clementine and Joel are so perfect together..

Me and my girlfriend broke up after she cheated on me. This song reflects upon my relationship with her because we both loved this movie. This movie is beautiful, so was our love, I am so broken to have something like it so ruined in the most hurtful way.
@mrhappysod I can totally relate to you man, my ex girlfriend and I shared a love for this movie together after I showed it to her, and even though I saw it many times before we did, I can't help but associate this soundtrack to her. Breaking up hasn't made this movie any less likable to me, but I don't think I can ever appreciate it outside of that context again, which sucks cause it's a great movie.
@blackfuse27 I think a love story fulfills its purpose when its making you feel actual love for the story, not simply for a person in it or a mainstream-idea of "feelings". Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind is the best example (the only one?). I thing I just got what love is, or a part of it, which is more than I usually now about it. This movie is so not one-sided as other love-stories are. So regret spending money on love and other drugs.

@PeeWeePopAWeenie I dont think they're opposites, they obviously have quite a bit in common. They are reflections on film of almost every relationship. We often need to remind ourselves why we love each other because time and hurt egos can blind us to the underlying beauty that we found in a kindred spirit.
I think we all wish we could go to sleep and not remember a goddamn thing when we wake up. That's why I like this movie, it creates a visual representation of what we wish we could control. But we are powerless.
Jim Carrey really impressed me... I could really identify to every single moment in the movie. This is one of the rare movies that I can watch a million times and they still make me think.
I've only watched this movie once a few years ago. Although I don't remember many details, I remember the way it made me feel. It felt like nothing before.

@ThePenguinEdward Quick background about me: BA in Film & Media Studies with a minor in music.The first problem with this video is that the description says that the theme wasn't present in the movie, except it is. It wouldn't be a theme otherwise. My second problem was the video doesn't really do the music/movie justice because of the lack of play on temporality. A really important harmony line in the song that's played in reverse doesn't have visual representation amongst other things.
BLARG!! Where did the "you're pretty" scene go? I used to be able to find it on youtube, and now it's gone. That's the best scene in the movie, get's me every time.
i heard this tune before I watched the movie n i gotta say, the imagery I got from listening was just of being at a point of time where things were normal or when you were a bit younger, or when u didnt have problems..just as it does for Joel when he wakes up to a normal depressed lonely day.

it was freaking terrible, the pain and the sadness came to me as soon as I opened my eyes in the morning... every single day, waking up was terribly sad...
this movie made my pain even worse hahaha, I never thought that terrible feeling would go away... but eventually it did, it faded away, little by little, every single day.
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. Amazing film, I watched it earlier tonight; I felt almost certain towards the end that this is going to be a movie which'll 'grow' on me and become more enjoyable, clear and meaningful the more that I watch it, and prone to eventually (more likely sooner rather than later, I'm sure) become one of my favourite films.

We often need to remind ourselves why we love each other because time and hurt egos can blind us to the underlying beauty that we found in a kindred spirit.

I think we all wish we could go to sleep and not remember a goddamn thing when we wake up. That's why I like this movie, it creates a visual representation of what we wish we could control. But we are powerless.

@ThePenguinEdward Quick background about me: BA in Film & Media Studies with a minor in music.The first problem with this video is that the description says that the theme wasn't present in the movie, except it is. It wouldn't be a theme otherwise. My second problem was the video doesn't really do the music/movie justice because of the lack of play on temporality. A really important harmony line in the song that's played in reverse doesn't have visual representation amongst other things.

BLARG!! Where did the "you're pretty" scene go? I used to be able to find it on youtube, and now it's gone. That's the best scene in the movie, get's me every time.

i heard this tune before I watched the movie n i gotta say, the imagery I got from listening was just of being at a point of time where things were normal or when you were a bit younger, or when u didnt have problems..just as it does for Joel when he wakes up to a normal depressed lonely day.

@caroliancssvld That one has vocals. If you're referring to the opening credits of the movie where he is crying in the car, it's "Everybody's gotta learn sometimes" by Beck. Otherwise, just look up the cd on amazon and play the song previews and you'll find out.

it was freaking terrible, the pain and the sadness came to me as soon as I opened my eyes in the morning... every single day, waking up was terribly sad...
this movie made my pain even worse hahaha, I never thought that terrible feeling would go away... but eventually it did, it faded away, little by little, every single day.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. Amazing film, I watched it earlier tonight; I felt almost certain towards the end that this is going to be a movie which'll 'grow' on me and become more enjoyable, clear and meaningful the more that I watch it, and prone to eventually (more likely sooner rather than later, I'm sure) become one of my favourite films.
