When I first heard this many moons ago, I loved it. I just heard American Steel the other day and loved them. I don't know the category they fit into. In the end, I know when I like something, punk or not. Rites of Spring are just so special. Labels don't mean much. It's about the music, man:)
MTV ruins every band it touches. im glad to say im the only one i know personally that listens to/knows cap'n jazz. i found them myself. mtv was not needed
@cioffisoccer I love Cap'n jazz, and I've never watched mtv in my life. and what I meant was when MTV made emo go mainstream, thats when it died, because MTV commercializes a genre like crazy and just ruins it... I found cap'n jazz out on my own. I really only listen to emo bands from the 80's and 90's.
emo sucks, this is way better. I like it. I bet $50 you can show this to some emo kid and they probly wont like it but every other pile of crap song labeled emo made these days with whiney voices and scremo d bags garggling cum with lyrics that make no sence they immediatly fall in love with.
evolve?? thats not evolving, new emo is all sell out music and all sounds the same and every one looks the same beacuse the purposly try to label them selfes to fit in to a fashion statement.
of course i mean my chemical romance. its fucking the same shit over and over and its not even there songs its written by some dueche and polished up in studios and then the band is only in it for the money.
i agree with you but im emo and i love rites of spring. and im only 13 which im probably the only one that knows this band while all those other idiots are listening to bullet for my valentine.
@badasseric zOMG I LOVE Hawthorne Heights... and you just basically said that they gargle semen! You are a foul son of junk, and I DO Like Rites Of Spring. I also like I Hate Myself. You are a total meanie. BYE.
Yes, because blink 182 is real punk right? That's the commercial crappy pop 'punk", this is the real stuff, sorry if its not easy enough on your ears.
It's what most intelligent people think. Even if they don't like punk, most people I know realise that bands like Sum41 and Blink are generated to make stupid people think they are listening to punk and think they're rebelling. Who better to market to than teenagers, whose brains have yet to fully develop (and therefore are less intelligent than the rest of society and cannot realise this) and have far more disposable income (meaning record sales). This is why their fans are mostly teenage girls
@AuronShinobi i entirely agree with what youre saying, but im 14 and cant stand sum 41 OR blink 182. i think i can speak for my generation when i say that not all of us are stupid and we know that neither of those poser bands are true punk. were intelligent enough to know that those bands are on major record labels, which totally contradicts all the ethics of punk. lets hope that this generation can help revive punk in the independent way, not the corporate way.
@zachstoocool It pains me to see the youth now so misguided...
The 'ethics of punk'? That's mostly something built up by the bands as a PR exercise.
One of the most iconic prototypical punk bands ever, The Sex Pistols, were signed to EMI, A&M, Warner Bros. and Virgin records. Noticing a mainstream label theme there?
@zachstoocool Not at all, just that punk music didn't really start out being as 'punk' as a lot of people think. And that bands like, say, blink-182 and The Offspring shouldn't be dismissed just because they're 'mainstream' and get signed to major labels. People are quick to throw around insults and call bands 'posers' or 'fake, or downright refuse to like them just because they're 'not punk enough'. It's all music; judge it with your ears, not by some image cooked up in the 70s to sell records.
@GameFreak7744 finally somebody who realizes this, I stopped trying to classify music as of lately, if it sounds really good then it probably isn't some over produced piece of shit. As of punk ethics the only reel code I can see is to try and be yourself and remain free of outside influences wich meens neglecting the ideals of punk rock itself if you don't agree with them. Just listen to music and if you like it continue to listen to it.
@AuronShinobi Sum41 & blink-182 are POP punk. It's a different style of punk. It's origins lie in bands like the Ramones and the Buzzcocks, both of which I think you'll find predate Rites Of Spring by about 10 years.
Blink 182 in particular have never tried to brand themselves as some kind of 'punk-rebellion' band, and I think you'll also find they have plenty of male, adult (intelligent) fans.
Way to demonstrate your knowledge and tolerance. =)
Great band.

If you're saying that everything after Cap'n Jazz was terrible I agree, but if you're saying they're bad then I disagree entirely.

yea cap'n jazzz was amazing, everything after sucked
cioffisoccer 2 years ago
I love cap'n jazz but after it went mainstream it was raped by mtv and died. Emo died when MTV touched it.
If emo went mainstream with the rites of spring, chances are emo would be very diferent today. I blame MTV.
