  • Timeless.

  • this music and real artist like Annie Lennox and others from this era didn't need to try so hard to be different or original , They just were!!!

  • Had just broken up with my boyfriend at the time and this song came out at the same time - cried many a tears - perfect emotions and her voice spoke for my feelings - my favorite video by them.

  • God I LOVE Annie Lennox! THE DIVA!

  • Scottish temptress with a silky voice

  • but i still love you dear:(

  • Incredible. This woman is stunningly beautiful and her voice is heaven. Wow.

  • sublime..........

  • she is Utterly fabulous here

  • I don't love you anymore I don't think I ever did And if you ever had Any kind of love for me You kept it all so well hid Promises, sweet promises You kept them from your mind Like all the lost forgotten things You never seemed to find

  • R.I.P. great Pop music.

  • @Cynthia1997S It is not Marilyn Manson's song! That is Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart's SONG!!

  • I love Roxette but I think they stole their image from the excellent Eurythmics.

Great band, great memories from childhood.

  • @Svedina80 "Roxette" jest do dupy.

  • Needs more cowbell.

  • Och! Lassie!

  • 1 person was that peson that annie was singing to that

  • And there's one person who doesn't like it ? What happened ? Did his/her finger slip ?

  • Love LOVE this video for the colors...contrast between Annie's hair and sparkles vs. David's blue and black hair. Great memories.

  • So sad that we are forced to watch a commercial first...

  • @atolm1 next time try clicking f5 when a commercial pops up.

  • 240,304 views and not one dislike? awesome

  • I love this album and this song in particular. It was one of the last "albums" that was edited perfectly before the CD format encouraged artists to throw everything but the kitchen sink into a release. Bravo.

  • And oh my! Is Annie not SO gorgeous at 1:10? She is breathtakingly beautiful, always has been, and still is today. She's aged beautifully.

  • David was good in the videos! His visual presence is undeniably a part of Eurythmics' iconic status. A lot of people forget the greatness he contributed as one half of Eurythmics because Annie has gone on to such enormous (and totally deserved) success as a solo artist, but David was always phenomenal too. Annie is always the first one to recognize his inimitable contributions.

  • Dave looks a bit arkward at times when he does his solo.. to me he was a genious record producer.. (feargal sharkey's debut is perfect, and I love the songs he did on Daryl Hall's three hearts in the happy ending machine) maybe he didnt like doing vids?

  • Her face alone is a Toulouse L'Autrec! Her sensibility and vocal message is a Ghandi. Her voice comes directly from god's (horse's) mouth.

    We ♥ U forever.

  • STRAORDINARI EURYTHMICS!!!!

  • bravissima siempre, bella mujer, no hay palabras, cada gesto es una obra de arte, cada mirada, cada acorde, she's more than we can say or imagine ever

  • emozionante brano per uno splendido video..e...bei ricordi

  • emozionante brano per uno splendito video..e...bei ricordi

  • indeed

  • Annie and Dave hit #40 in Billboard, 11-4-89. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!

  • A truly brilliant Scottish woman

  • yes she is alive think living in new zealand on farm...check out Jennifer and Love is a stranger

  • is she alive? where is she? we need more like her

  • PERFECT.

  • likodemus , you wouldn't be the only one , Annie was hot back in the day. When you google Dave Stewart you will get about 6 musicains that go by that name .So how about rounding them all up and create a Dave Stewart band!

  • I have a perpetual fan-crush on this talented woman.

  • eurythmics-dont ask me why,is one my favorites gijoe989

  • One of my top 5 Eurythmics tunes. Annie you are my idol!

  • Maravillosa canción y grupo.

  • Such a velvet voice!

  • This voice... sooo pure.

  • Annie Lennox is a true diva

  • She,s sooo! Fukin beautifull.

  • Esto es un "no cortamos por mí sino por ti" (yo pensaba que se decía al revés por quedar bien y eso).

  • simply.......stunning!

  • There is no other that even comes close to Annie - her voice is pristine!

  • Vamos que tengo que ser como los políticos ir casa por casa de los señores Reavers (a la del señor Prieto no voy a ir no vaya a ponerse nervioso) para que me boten.

  • @Phunt555

    Impossible, with those hips.

  • lindo... maravilho... fantastico.

uma linda canção, com uma voz maravilhosa.

    obrigado por tãi linda musica.

  • the rythm sounds a lot like "every breath you take" by police at 3:12 but i still love it :-)

  • i think this is their best song

  • Amazing song and video. Video plays into the deeper meaning of the lyrics so subtly. I've always wondered about the moment on 1:26 - that random shot. Any thoughts?

  • is it me or does this sound a lot like the police? ...or do the police sound like the eurythmics?

  • ¡Casas cuna! Me pregunté a mí mismo si existían familiares profesionales y he encontrado la respuesta gracias a l@s señores Reavers-mami.

Ahira la cuestión es ¿por qué los señores Reavers-mami me dejan en una casa cuna y a sus familiares no? ¿Es porque no tengo conejito?

  • Depeche Mode and Eurythmics were the most innovativ bands in the 80ies. very ahead of its time! even after 30 years, the music sounds fresh and modern.

  • @sounds73 agree 100 percent

  • her lipstick annoys me...

  • @chisdenha But do you like the song?

  • @Emgee78 of course :D

  • Señor Delgado, tendría la amabilidad de concederme como último deseo, sin que con ello abuse de su generosidad ni le cause algún mal mayor o menor, ver "el bueno, el feo y el malo".

  • IT'S FUNNY HOW THEY DID "DON'T ASK ME WHY" ON THEIR LAST ALBUM, AND THEN RIGHT AFTER, ANNIE LENNOX DID THE SONG WHY ON HER DEBUET ALBUM :)

  • Joy, to pa, yes

  • Von Sternberg + Marlene Dietrich, Jean Paul Goude + Grace Jones, David Stewart + Annie Lennox, they were never as good away from each other as they were when they were together.

  • what a video

  • i remember this song so vividly and i will never forget it my exgirlfriend dedicated this song to me at a kerokee contest i remember sitting at my table and rubbing my chin perturbed and thinking its gone a bit wrong here i think :(

  • What a great song! Love Annie and Dave!

Btw, doesn't the drummer look just like Macaulay Culkin ;D

  • I didn't know that Christopher Hitchens played the guitar.

  • @rainstormz28 the only weird and creepy things going around are the ones in your head!!!

  • I love this song ( from Greece )

  • Now that's a good lookin' woman. Think she looks good here? Check out "love is a stranger" and that blonde wig. Hmm, hmm, hmm,

  • No words are necessary to say she's a great woman!

  • Annie is smokin' hot in every way.

  • This song still gives me goosebumps!

  • This was made in 1989?!!! This totally looks like it was made a couple years ago.

  • Annie Lennox is the absolute master of expressive gesture - she made the music video into an autonomous art form

  • @1hayes1 So well said!! She is absolutely from some other place... I'm convinced! The gestures and expression here are off the chart crazy brilliant and THRILLING! My God... she's such an amazing artist.... and what a captivating tune! One of my all time faves (song + video). Sophie Muller is genius!

  • was first i heard of it.She,s very good.

  • Piękny głos, piękny.

  • Annie!

  • Their music always has been wonderful and I say when complimented with a video you feel like you are part of some mystery and never really ever figure it out.

  • I think what is so intriguing in the mystery. Their music always left you in a mystery.

  • @tsukichishi When I was 6, my mom bought a box of CD's at the dollar store and her album was in there. That was back in 1996. I haven't stopped listening since ; )

  • One of the strangest and most sinister videos produced...the song itself is beautiful and haunting..the instrumentation is flawless..but that video with the repeated head shots of glaring eyes and shadows...Lennox's strange eye movements, grimaces and the repeated head twists of all...reminds me when the female creation was revealed at the end of the Bride of Frankenstein...there is a undercurrent of evil in this video...weird and creepy

  • @rainstormz28 love your comment - very insightfull.

  • @rainstormz28 Dark, Light, Moody, Expressive and, yes, Sinister.. .they all fit (and work) here to great effect! The genius video director, Sophie Mueller, guides Annie and Dave through perhaps their most intriguing and polished video ever. A rare case of both a song, and video, that will stand the test of time.

  • The ending chorus has always been my absolute favorite part of any song DnA have put out. Very haunting. DnA certainly went out on top.

  • most beautiful vids of Eurythmics, and the song is veeeery lovely

  • Great video.

  • Who's breaking your heart?

  • Really very sophisticated and classy music video. Annie in that dress looks more better than man suit and orange hair (1983), or army clothes and awful big glasses (1999). Eurythmics were one of the biggest musical icons of 80s. They released 9 studio albums during 10 years.

  • Very classy, timeless song, and perhaps my favorite guitar solo of the decade: A lot a feeling in that suave glide of fingers across guitar strings ... with a sudden high note to punctuate the mood. My ears cling to every note of that guitar because it captures the emotional energy of the song more than any solo that I know. I find it odd that no one else ever cites it for its greatness. Love it, love it, love it.

  • @Krozword I couldn't agree more with your comment about David Stewart's performance on the guitar in this song. He could have dragged out that solo bit a whole lot longer if I had my way. I find this song utterly brilliant, the lyrics, the instrumentation, the other musicians, the meolody, the production - everything. Whoever's playing the double bass knows what they're doing. I also find the beat and tempo of that song extremely danceable.

  • Such a beautiful song.

  • ageless.... timeless

  • 46 years old now.... i guess im middle aged... i miss the 80's and 90's....

I ask younger people if they have ever heard of

The carpenters or Anne Lennox or Barbra Streisand or the Bee Gees and get repeated ,,who? or no! -

    What a shame!

  • @martind586 I am young I suppose, at 16, I kind of heard of Annie Lennox and all the others. There's still hope.

  • Why?

  • Don't say You don't love me anymore Annie, because it breaks my heart!

  • I now remember there was a 3rd song “DONT ASK ME WHY” by The Erythemics. LMAO, as a teen I did dumb things like record cartoons over our movies. However, even so that was wrong to do, the music video version was in synch with cartoon characters crying. The song mentioned mysery etc. 1 other part of the video had neat island dancers from a HAWAIAN LUAU! LOL, the dancers were in synch with that song!

viewers check out also i can beat mike tyson by jazy jeff and free falling by tom petty

  • Awesome voice, she's one of a kind.

  • Timeless , classic, from one on the most prolefic group of it's time.

  • Lush!

  • Love Love Love this Song !!!!

  • 0:50

  • Annie Lennox is a true artist.

  • experiencing all the aspects of her beauty takes my breath away nomatter what era. But her stunning images from this album are unreal. Had a huge subway poster from the album, all on white with her so pale contrasting her evocative red lips and eyes .. and Dave in the background. Lost to time my poster was, thankfully these vids live on as does her stunning beauty.

  • so very nice song i love it

  • I was surprised that this little gem of a song doesn't appear on any of their 'best of' compilations. A perfect complement to their single "No More I Love Yous."

  • @davidhyperion It is on their out of print "Greatest Hits" release from 1991.

  • Love the lyrics

  • The song is superb

P.S. Is Ricky Gervais playing the guitar?

  • @winokurow2120

That's Dave Stewart, in his brunette phaze.

  • This video needs more views!

  • What more to say.... never equaled.

  • Never had a moment in my life to apply this song to, but the sound is sooo gorgeous and so is Annie Lennox. It's one of my favorites.

  • wow what a nice guitar

  • It's taken me 20 years to understand this song! ... When she sings "Don't ask me why" she is responding to his question about why she doesn't love him anymore. (Granted, I was only about 13 when this song came out. Some understandings only come with age.)

  • this one of my favorite eurythmics songs

  • This song close to home. =:(

  • Hit only #40 in the US. How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg 25 in the UK chart

  • A 20+ year old song and it has such a great sound as if it could have just came out in this timeframe. Awesome.

  • @mtx612 What makes Eurythmics so great is that their songs still sound cutting edge even after 20 years. Their Greatest Hits CD is a must-have in anyone's collection. I just wish they would put the DVD on Blu Ray.

  • @mtx612 To come out in this timeframe would mean this song was overproduced, and just plain bad. I know that's not what you meant, but seriously, nothing new nowadays comes close to the songs from the 80's and 90's.

  • One of my fave Eurythmics songs...very underrated. And, yes, I have a few to dedicate this to!

  • My favorite song dedicated to the father of my 4 young kids who doesn't care about them. I left him 3 years ago and went on with my life. This is my favorite song, it's me towards him. U want to get back together, u can hope forever....

  • @fleurdesneiges99 - hold tight to your gifts...the children will bounce back, and they expect to see you do the same....♥♥ Be Strong, okay? *I have been there, and don't doubt your instincts*

  • @mellietink

Thanks a lot. And fortunately I have my parents still for me and they are helping so much thank God!

  • @mellietink

I've been with someone for a while, he loves me, my kids and they love him so much as well. Thanks to God. I hope all is okay with u 2. Still love this song 4ever!

  • I left my husband 3 years ago after 7 years of hell. I always had a big heart but in the end no one can hide in someone else's shadow. I have 4 great kids and went on with my life. This song is exactly me towards him even if he only dreams of getting back together. Keep hoping... I am living. Loooove that song.

  • One of their best songs

  • Spectacularly beautiful and ineffably, transcendently sad

  • Starts a lot like "Papa Don't Preach"

  • My favorite song of the 80s, and didn't I sing it for a person or two....

  • Last top 40 US hit. Only made #40 in Billboard. how'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • Timeless. Classic. Gorgeous. Lush. Lennox.

  • So beautiful....

  • This goes out to the guy who let me go
