I have to pass along what I read in our local paper. This gal, 4th year nursing student actually wrote that breastfeeding had the potential to protect baby from, are you ready?....SIDs, Insulin dependent diabetes, some cancers and some allergy diseases. Then she said that formula doesn't given the protection.She made sure to use the word POTENTIAL. I want to know what scientific study she got her info from, I mean, the potential to ensure the pancreas makes insulin so diabetes will disappear?

One of the reasons why more formula fed babies are diabetic is because *some* formula is ... you ready? Over 50% sugar. Allergy info is #23 on the list, and info for cancer; #5, 6, 21, 22, and 30. Diseases: #10, 17, 32, and many others. Breast milk is LIVE and pretty amazing stuff. You should read about the recent study of breast milk killing cancer cells :)
I don't think she is saying breastfeeding is the only way to bond with your baby, it's just one of the natural ways to, But there are lots of ways to connect with your newborn. I think as long as you love your baby and do what you can do and what you think is right then you and your baby will be fine.When it comes to parenting there will always be someone who disagrees with you but it's your kid not theirs.

I haven't had a kid and don't plan to any time soon but I don't want to breast feed.It hurts and you can have your breasts leaking at unwanted times and etc. And I may not be even able to produce milk, I don't like that some people are like you have to do it.

My hope is that your mother, when she told you about leakage, told you what I told you. My hope is, also, that you don't form your opinions based upon misconceptions, limited knowledge (when there's more that one may learn), and bias. I am taking this from my own experiences in BF 3 children and much research, including all that was researched by my own family.

By necessity breastfeeding means that you need to hold your baby close to your body and this is one way that bottle feeding mothers can replicate the intimacy of bfing, just by making sure they hold their babies while feeding and don't prop the bottle up. Many mothers who breastfeed dont feel that close emotional bond they expect either. And there are significant benefits to bfing beyond 1 year.
