my god people. can the florence fans go away. it's douchey enough that they ripped off ggd, but having legions of their fans come marching over here to attack the ripped off artist is even worse.
I don't see how this is similar at all, even if Florence admitted to it. Florence's song actually has real singing and instrument playing, this is all computerized techno that sounds like its in a foreign language it's so garbled. GGD should be happy that someone big like F+M used a line of their song and got some publicity from it. They probably weren't going to get much any other way.
@purpleoctopus923 The sample is at 1:03 and its mostly just the melody. GGD makes most of their music with live instruments from what I've seen, but I think it was wrong of them to get pissed about this. People sample and quote music they are influenced by all the time, I think its only fucked up when someone steals a whole segment of a song and claims it to be original.
@tobywongcharliechang True, but F+M didn't copy a whole segment, just one line. And Florence put them in the jacket as her influence for the song, so I do think it was unwarranted that they asked for royalties.
@purpleoctopus923 Hahaha, jesus christ you can't be serious. I think the worst part about Gang Gang Dance being ripped off by some shitty band is that it now draws people like this to their videos.
@girlsneutral YEAH. I heard it. It was IDENTICAL. Crazy... lots of artists are just taking from artists they find to be less popular. I find it to be really.. mean.
@bolshoiboy8 Bro, she like borrowed 4 words from this song. The melodies weren't that similar. It's not like she stole this song called it her own and is doing this to hurt Gang Gang Dance's feelings.
@girlsneutral "Identical" is a bit of an overstatement the only thing the melodies have in common is the "oohhh" in the background. Florence's melody uses drums, harps, and guitars. None of which are encountered in this track.

@rapidwardrobe saying florence stole from this song is like saying david bowie stole from the beatles in "young americans." it's called PAYING HOMAGE, there are many interviews in which she says this. relax, everyone.
How I see it, It is almost impossible to have anything truly original in todays day and age. Until the internet is turned off, break off into different tribes and follow our own internal rhythms, there will always be an overlap. so until then, just stfu and listen ^^
so wait can someone tell me what part of this song the florence song samples? i don't like florence's music so i'm too lazy to go look it up. and tell me the part in the florence song that samples this too.
The lyric 'How quickly the glamour fades'. Apparantly it was mistake by her managment, which I'm inclined to believe because I think she'd hardly release the song as a single if she had known it was stolen.
everyone keeps blethering about how florence only stole one line from this song and how they're stealing all her money. I'm not musical in any sense, I can't play anything, read music, anything like that and I can hear the similarities in the songs. Even Florence has said it was an homage to this song. I think you're just choosing not to hear it cause you're all wrapped up in Welchy webs.
@CR4GETH hola! ur clearing talking about the comment i posted lol and i undertsand what you mean how they slightly resemble eachother and she loves this computer or whatever gang gang dance is but she even acknowledged them in the inside her cd credits, which should of been enough to a small infringment. i was just trying to express that! w.e. im done with this topic. cheers,
soo she took the lyric "how quickly the glamour fades" and this band basically gets all the money off of her rabbit heart? i think they took it much to far....it doesnt even resemble the same beat or rhythm as HER song! i just dont understand it all
@swiminthissilense you can hear resemblances to Flo's song in nearly every verse of this song, that's why they claimed royalties from her. You do realise artists own copyright in melodies and song structures as well lyrics right? Especially the opening verse just after the 1:00 mark. Stop getting bitchy and do your homework before commenting a pointless remark like that, Goodbye.
@fry99 umm i do know that melodies do beong to the artist, but what you fail to understand is that the two songs that we're comparing sound nothing alike, maybe the whole part in the beggining were it sounds like dreamy and very hippy are similar but nothing else, if they were basing it on that, ther managers should sue everyone who's doing this now. dude just relisten to each song and i think you'll finally get it through your thick skull, Adios loll
That Islands Records gave GGD thousands of dollars in response to getting called out with no legal pressure behind them means they knew it was plagiarism. End of discussion.
@JURGMANDR I guess they didnt initially "steal" anything, but they used the lyric and melody. Island records have paid Gang Gang Dance for infringement already. I love florence, but they deffs used "how quickly the glamour fades."
@rapidwardrobe I think you're stretching it if you claim that Rabbit Heart is unoriginal. Referencing another song in the way that Florence and The Machine have seems perfectly acceptable to me, since the song in its entirety is an original composition.

@MrKariRueslatten same here. pretty tenuous similarity imo. cant believe she paid them for that. look at red hot chilies and last dance with mary jane - almost same, and Im not aware of payment yet, though to be honest i havent been following it for awhile.
People are annoying. Yes every artist in the world is a "phony biatch" except your particular favorite artist. I can go to many other songs on youtube and see the same ridiculous comments. Really. Who cares?! Just listen to whatever music you like. Bitching about artists you don't like is a waste of everyone's time.
Maybe I'm dense, but I can't really hear many similarities between this song and Rabbit Heart. I mean, I know the one line is almost exactly the same, but that one line can't really be the basis for the whole thing, can it?
@rapidwardrobe florence spoke in interviews about how she was influenced by them. in the sleeve notes of lungs she thanks them... i think it was a genuine mistake from the management. why would she openly say that she was influenced by them if she hadnt paid any royaties?
The concept of musicians borrowing (intentional or otherwise) isn't new at all. There are a number of songs I can list that sound similar to each other, or use the same chord progression and same lyrical subject matter. It doesn't stop me from listening to them. I listen to Florence as well as Gang Gang Dance, and I'm going to continue doing so. The rest of you fellow YouTubers who are just jumping to start an argument...well, have fun.
i'm confused on what all this fuss is about...the songs have like two of the same words? everyone's getting all worked up over nothing. its honestly quite amusing. its music, people! relax and enjoy it!
Weeeeell..."how quickly the glamour fades?" That's all they took away? ...I am totally CONVINCED that exactly that line made Rabbit Heart the song it is now...and without it the song would've lost all of its content, beauty, expression and "glamour"...
Wait wait let me get this straight - because Florence took a line from the song she was tagged for plagiarism? Music is an art form, and because of it, it's entirely give and take. I love both of the bands to death, but it seems kind of petty to lay such claim to one line when it seemed to be more of a shout out than anything.
I'm not giving an opinion on either song, but regardless of whether or not she gave them credit in the sleeve notes/ in interviews Florence still has a duty to approach any artist who's work she is using and sort out royalties and publishing. The quality of either song has nothing to do with it, it's still GGD's lyric she's sampling, and legalitys have to be sorted before that can be released.
I think Florence did some changes to the lyrics. Anyway, the booklet of Saint Dyphma says the lyrics are: "One with the light shined on them, how quickly the glimma fades"
I appreciate that florences song and this song are completley different, but she just didn't credit GGD on her album, nor did she credit dev hynes for writing half of her songs ! still i think she is brill :)
Eh, Florence and the Machine stole like one line and like three seconds of a melody. WHATEVER! Rabbit Heart is better than this crap anyway. At least Florence is talented and doesn't sound like a barbie midget on uppers!
#1: Florence and the Machine acknowledged influences openly and greatly increased coverage of Gang Gang Dance so they should be grateful.
#2: GGD have clearly been influenced by the works of other artists. I am hearing suspicious similarities to Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill"
#3: Why can't we all stop fighting and turn to the real enemies- lip synching, "reality" television, Simon Cowell and generic talentless shit that has killed the music industry.
@scotland369 excellent observation. the groove is definitely R.U.T.H. even GGD's vocal is very kate bush-ish. interesting to know that great artists influenced one another :)
Florence and the Machine? Who the gives a shit? If people wanna talk about that tranny, go and discuss on a Lily Allen video or some other crap of that standard. This song doesn't need to be sullied with her name.
@rapidwardrobe Everyone has their opinions on copyright, but Florence actually talked about Gang Gang Dance's influence before they sought her for royalties. Somebody was being negligent as there are ways to check these things out before a record hits the stores--and somebody certainly didn't read her "Thank you" in the liner notes. Honestly, experimentation with old stuff is how we get fabulous new stuff. It used to be an honor. Experimentation is actually a good thing. Some laws go too far...
I actually like both this and the Florence and the Machine song. I think it was wrong for them to steal from this song, but since royalties have been paid, and wrongdoing has been admitted, I don't see why we have to take sides.
@daffyphack it's not all about money man, if i was in gang gang dance i'd be pretty pissed off that the public thought that florence and the machine came up with that riff, when it was my hard work.
"In 2010, the band received publishing royalties from British group Florence and The Machine. Members of Gang Gang Dance noticed that part of "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" was lifted from their song "House Jam" and approached Florence and the Machine's label who acknowledged that infringement had occurred."
In terms of musical structure and progression its not even similar to Rabbit Heart, i think the fact the backing vocals are similar is the only point of camparison.
She has admitted they were her inspiration for Rabbit Heart: Thank you to Gang Gang Dance, who are one of the best bands in the world and who I command you all to go and listen to right now. I got obsessed with their amazing song House Jam for a while back there, so much so that a line from it ended up in Rabbit Heart. I remain completely grateful to them for the inspiration and for everything.
"it was actually their fault, not to give the credits straight away. Its no secret, ive already spoke about it in interviews, I'm a big fan of gang gang dance, so this was a tribute to them."
"homage" = blatantly ripping Gang gang Dance and not acknowledging it to they persued her. Smells like bullshit to me. Gang gang Dance remain more original and better than FATM
@TheReverendSeanV eggzaktly, how late they remembered that they outta blue ripped the song off, is it called `rippin-off without realizing`? florence is a phony biatch and after the 'nc'dent she was tryin to kiss their azzes by mentionin the word HOMAGE/
she uses the same line 'how quickly the glamour fades' and the melodies in the verse are really similar, i thought it the first time i heard this song!
I'm sorry. but who cares weather florence robbed this or not? even though she never. Rabbit Heart is still an amazingly better song and will probably get this one the publicity it will never get.
@ryangavo1 well in the end it's not that important but still credit where it's due. yeah, because florence is a marketed band it will probably help this song popularity which isn't a bad thing.
in a personal opinion this is a much better song, so i guess opinions are divided.
Florence and the Machine are now to give royalties to GGD for the song Rabbit Heart after they said that Florence and the Machine basically robbed them of this tune.
The way the verse is sung to be fair, is exactly the same.
you make it sound like they we're made to give the royalties over when that isn't the case
even prior to GGD making inquiries Florence Welch has said in several interviews rabbit heart was inspired by this song and also gang dance not being credit was a mistake
upon GGD making inquiries Island records said they were aware of this and lack of credit was a mistake and instantly offered all royalties to GGD instantly
@jamesthemod i have just listened to both and florences track has pretty much robbed the verse. I guess its good that gang gang get that extra exposure, they deserve way more recognition
I saw this band at emos in austin like 3 years ago, such a great show! There was only like 30 people there but they played like there were thousands! I'll love this band till death!
hardly!! She has just said how quickly its not like shes used the same beat at all or any other of the lyrics its ridiculous to compare this piece of shite (my opinion) to the superiority of florences music (my opinion)
I only came here to listen to Gang Gang Dance and maybe find out about a few new bands via comments; NOT, Florence and the Machine!

"In 2010, the band received publishing royalties from British group Florence and The Machine. Members of Gang Gang Dance noticed that part of "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" was lifted from their song "House Jam" and approached Florence and the Machine's label who acknowledged that infringement had occurred."

who cares? these guys, which most people would never have heard of otherwise, will now sell a lot of records from the exposure
killbot6767 2 years ago
I don't see how this is similar to "rabbit heart". Just the second line of lyrics, nothing more.
sss104 2 years ago 2
i'm sorry... am I the only who doesn't understand this song can possibly resemble rabbit heart ?
VanMocen 2 years ago 3
NME article:
Florence + the Machineare to pay Gang Gang Dance royalties after admiting that 'Rabit Heart' borrows heavily from the New Yorker's track.
...They were aware of the infringement, with the singer adding that it was a "mistake"

rabbit heart sounds like a cover of this song..both bands are great but somehow they seem to rip off kate bush quite a bit
shestarcrazy 2 years ago
There are many more songs that are copied and (whether or not given credit) were profited from.
2010profile 2 years ago
In terms of musical structure and progression its not even similar to Rabbit Heart, i think the fact the backing vocals are similar is the only point of camparison.
UFO1044 2 years ago
Its not the backing vocals.. Its THE vocals that sound the same. But just the first bit really.
maximusv1 2 years ago
Well there isn't much similarity at all. Florence shouldn't steal lyrics but y'know both Florence and this band's singer plagiarise Kate Bush.
messthetics 2 years ago
im sorry there is nooo comparing the songs! rabbit heart is just sooo much better!
personal opinion!
true that the lyrics at the begining are pretty much the same but florence welch is such a good singer that its just sooo much better!
dont have a fit that i put this down, as i say personal opinion!
admittidly she should of said that she knicked pasts of the song, but gang gang dance are getting compensation for the song.

Larissaabbey 2 years ago 5
@Rabbimoto Flo said in inerviews she had copied it.

florence admits:
"it was actually their fault, not to give the credits straight away. Its no secret, ive already spoke about it in interviews, I'm a big fan of gang gang dance, so this was a tribute to them."
SuuzieQ 2 years ago
I love Rabbit Heart, but after hearing parts throughout, Florence pretty much cherry picked bits to add to hers
Homage? I'm wondering if there would of even been the song if it not for this
The13thD1sciple 2 years ago
"homage" = blatantly ripping Gang gang Dance and not acknowledging it to they persued her. Smells like bullshit to me. Gang gang Dance remain more original and better than FATM
TheReverendSeanV 2 years ago
@TheReverendSeanV eggzaktly, how late they remembered that they outta blue ripped the song off, is it called `rippin-off without realizing`? florence is a phony biatch and after the 'nc'dent she was tryin to kiss their azzes by mentionin the word HOMAGE/

she uses the same line 'how quickly the glamour fades' and the melodies in the verse are really similar, i thought it the first time i heard this song!

I'm sorry. but who cares weather florence robbed this or not? even though she never. Rabbit Heart is still an amazingly better song and will probably get this one the publicity it will never get.
ryangavo1 2 years ago 6
@ryangavo1 well in the end it's not that important but still credit where it's due. yeah, because florence is a marketed band it will probably help this song popularity which isn't a bad thing.
in a personal opinion this is a much better song, so i guess opinions are divided.
m7mteddy 1 year ago
cheeky florence..loving gang gang dance-bet they're loving those royalties!

rabbit heart is waaaay better and she has said before the song was in homage to them. She wasnt lying or anything x
lottie123999 2 years ago 5
Florence and the Machine are now to give royalties to GGD for the song Rabbit Heart after they said that Florence and the Machine basically robbed them of this tune.
The way the verse is sung to be fair, is exactly the same.

you make it sound like they we're made to give the royalties over when that isn't the case
even prior to GGD making inquiries Florence Welch has said in several interviews rabbit heart was inspired by this song and also gang dance not being credit was a mistake
upon GGD making inquiries Island records said they were aware of this and lack of credit was a mistake and instantly offered all royalties to GGD instantly
jaygill111 2 years ago
@jamesthemod i have just listened to both and florences track has pretty much robbed the verse. I guess its good that gang gang get that extra exposure, they deserve way more recognition
attaxwrongnes 2 years ago
@jamesthemod she didn't rob it. Shes said before that it was homage to them it wasn't a lie or anything
