My best friends brother got out of a tour in Iraq. He showed us this video cuz it accurately depicted what he was feeling as a soldier. He had to do things that he was not proud of and doesnt want to remember because he was told to. He still suffers from PTSD. He says this video tells how he feels because hes sick of having to live with the memories of doing horrible things because he was told to and have people at home tell him hes a hero because of it. He said he sure doesnt FEEL like a hero

My great-grandfather died for this country in WWI. My grandfather fought the japs in the Pacific Theater. I have lost friends over there.

I think we can all come to the agreement that we should respect our marines and our military in general. But, the real troops deserve our respects. Not the kind of soldier that the song depicts. I love our boys, don't get me wrong, but some of the things that they do, the things that if we knew they had done we would never look them in the face again. As far as the prof comment goes University professors very often push their views ideas and beliefs onto their students in a biased way. The students THEN turn around and regurgitate the professors ideas without really thinking it over themselves or do any sort of fact finding.
Two things, Prof's in general hide or attempt to hide their ideology while teaching. Second thing is that Prof's only talk about politics if you are in some form of Arts class. These subjects never come up in the Sciences. I will also state that each persons life experiences account for a lot. Never state that someone has not seen the world or needs to see the world to understand. That friend is a big misconception on your part. Again for the record the US CIA did train the "terrorists".

My best friends brother got out of a tour in Iraq. He showed us this video cuz it accurately depicted what he was feeling as a soldier. He had to do things that he was not proud of and doesnt want to remember because he was told to. He still suffers from PTSD. He says this video tells how he feels because hes sick of having to live with the memories of doing horrible things because he was told to and have people at home tell him hes a hero because of it. He said he sure doesnt FEEL like a hero

However, I think that they should try and differentiate between a just war and this senseless invasion, and know when to toss down their guns and just come home. I think we can all come to the agreement that we should respect our marines and our military in general. But, the real troops deserve our respects. Not the kind of soldier that the song depicts. I love our boys, don't get me wrong, but some of the things that they do, the things that if we knew they had done we would never look them in the face again. I agree with you, but I disagree with your statement that the soldier that this song depicts does not deserve our respect. One of my good friends came home from Iraq and is currently suffering from PTSD from what hes seen and done.
He said he enjoys this song a lot because its very true for him. He felt like he'd go and come back as a glorified hero, but when he got back feeling like a killer, he didnt want to be praised for it, or hear from people how proud they were.

sorry for double post, but atlantic is right, war is in our DNA, its human nature to want to acquire power and territory, its in all animals nature, the only difference between us taking and defending territories is that we are "intelligent" enough to develop weapons that will kill ten thousand fold what we could do with our hands.

This video was so sad, and I'm sure evryone will agree that war is terrible and bad things do happen, and most of the time americans and British do end up involved in this but usually what the Taliban and terrorrists do is alot worse than our mistakes. The government do make an arse of themselves alot though.

War is global. It always has been and always will be. American soldiers fight for their country just as Japanese soldiers fight for theirs. War is a terrible thing, I personally have lost family members to it. Soldiers on both sides have family and friends.We all owe thanks to those who gave there lives for our freedom. My grandpa and my father both served in the military, and i soon will to. You point fingers and bitch but don't have the courage to fight for what you believe in. Your pathetic

War is global? It always has been and always will be? Gave their lives for freedom? What part of that is not idiotic? Its not in our DNA to cause them! I still think no human being should be forced to go to war, we don't choose, we are told by the powers that be. I love how you think you have freedom? Try taking a Sociology class you might learn something about this thing called freedom. Or in fact just look it up in the dictionary. Then you should reflect on how your culture is free.

Fina02, I am a U.S. Soldier. I am also Bio/Chem major at the University of Minnesota. Open one history book, of any country and tell me which doesn't mention war in the first chapter. I have taken a sociology class.I am not an idiot, I am intelligent,, and i am a man willing to die to defend his country. It's easy to point fingers and debate politics on youtube. I love my country and would gladly defend you. Sometimes i wish my culture was less free so i could woop the shit out of ppl like you.

Save me the dramatics, you shouldnt even consider throwing away your education for war. Im a second year nursing student, you probably took that course as a prerequisite and regurgitated what ever you read for your exam and forgot about it. Some refection. Im embarrassed to even think that a university student still has that same first year blindness. I think Im just going to withdraw from further comments. GS778, never claimed to know the world, I have the common sense and integrity to know why problems occur and keep occurring. I live the way I do (which is basically middle class in Canada) because I, even though I hate it, condone the exploitation of other developing countries because I want to live the life style I have. I just wish people could be more honest with themselves. We live our consumer lifestyles through the exploitation of others. Oh and the prof's comment, where you going with it?

I didn't see any pictures of the Taliban thowing acid on the faces of 10 year old girls to perform a "burka test". Maybe I was harsh in my comment I appologize. The point I;m getting at is people sit at home in North American and yap away on youtube about life experience and how things ar e'in the real world'. Youtube and the nightly news are not good mediums to get a feel for whats going on in the world. If someone really wants to see whats going on they need to travel and see for themselves

As far as the prof comment goes University professors very often push their views ideas and beliefs onto their students in a biased way. The students THEN turn around and regurgitate the professors ideas without really thinking it over themselves or do any sort of fact finding.

Two things, Prof's in general hide or attempt to hide their ideology while teaching. Second thing is that Prof's only talk about politics if you are in some form of Arts class. These subjects never come up in the Sciences. I will also state that each persons life experiences account for a lot. Never state that someone has not seen the world or needs to see the world to understand. That friend is a big misconception on your part. Again for the record the US CIA did train the "terrorists".
