  • ya maybe i would take it if it wasent so expensive, nyp to newark is a 15 minute ride and its $40!!

  • the hell with goin through the airport take the train

  • man id love to take a ride on that going from new york to washington d.c round trip

  • I went on it, it was very fast. Better than a plane

  • Things that I miss: the sound of South Station's old departure board(featured in the ad), and the days where people could enjoy something as basic as an old commercial without others ruining it with their petty arguments.

  • i'd love to ride the acela

  • @uisblackcat i think they use diesel now :)

  • i have to disagree with some of this. those stupid full body scanners are making passengers upset. they will be looking for other options. and a community event I went to in portland oregon COMPLETELY rejected the big highway IN FAVOR of high speed rail. and if you don't think USA is the best, either fix it (MASSACHUSETTS) or go find another country. rail is coming, it is just taking some pressure to get there.

  • Oh yes...trust me...it will change. :)

  • Decent enough commercial. I'm disappointed Amtrak doesn't make more commercials like this.

  • LISTEN UP!

i've ridden the Acela and its a very smooth ride. I commute on it every week and it never lets me down. and by the way America isn't the greatest country in the world but neither are any in europe. So maybe if we were not so concerned with what other people have a just learned to improve what we already have in place we could build a better tomorrow dont you think?

  • Patriotism is immoral.

  • I don't remember seeing this aired. Very cool.

  • How do we become a better nation if we don't whine? If we are just content we will never move forward. Also, if America is so prosperous shouldn't we be asking for more than just safe and clean?

Plus, much of America is not safe, clean or prosperous.

  • HMM...

Most parts of America are VERY safe, only the ghetto maybe is not.

Have you been watching the NEWS to see what is going on in IRAN you idiot??

And clean, we have an EPA and the toughest regulations in the WORLD... Look at China.

    Retard Liberals.

  • Safe, if we were safe, we wouldnt worry about terrorists?

Clean, are drugs a clean use?

Prosperous? Bailing out financial institutions, in debt? I don't think so

  • America is always perfect, isn't it. The dreamworld.

  • What are you trying to imply you Liberal bastard?

  • I'm just saying that the USA is not the best country in the world. There's no reason for a hateful speech. This way you just tell the world what you're really like. No better than the pickpocketing politicians.

I believe you have read the terms of service on YouTube. Take my advice and observe them.

  • Oh, and about my alleged political orientation ... I have no preference whatsoever because I don't believe in politics.

  • Nice! How come Amtrak had to copy Europe to build the Acela? We can design spaceships, right? Why can't the good old US of A design and build a supersonic train of our own? Thanx fur sharin'!

  • Because most of the U.S. doesnt think or believe that rail is better than flying or driving. When it actually is. So they would rather worry about 16 laneing the interstates instead of building more high speed rail.

  • @owlking149 sonic boom

  • 25 years too late...

The 1 Hour PBS TV Program "NOVA", highlighted the VERY plan to bring Bullet Trains to California:

    "Tracking The Supertrains

While America's passenger-train service deteriorates, trains in Japan and Europe are speeding ahead at over 150 miles per hour. NOVA reports that the super-fast trains are finally coming to America.

    Original broadcast date: 12/14/82

    Topic: technology/engineering"

  • does anybody know the name of the theme song for this video its so relaxing i wanna see if i can get it please help

  • @wepadominicano Possibly, it was produced specially for this ad.

  • what is that song very inspiring reminds me of traveling in the universe. and that game at 0:21 also

  • It is a great ride.150 mph is awsome.

  • Wow! America finally gets its first high-speed train....it just needs to be as fast/faster as the TGV.

  • Nice ad. Finally got a chance to ride it after all these years of telling myself I would.

  • i have been on an acela, it is so luxurious!

  • Nebulon -4 Rocks lets go there man. Whoose with me? I will bring an arm sling with the finest Tang.

  • Cool! ^__^ I saw the Production crew/equipment the day they were shooting this commercial at 'South Station' in Boston. Awesome! Before I forget...there was a full length Acela Express Train (parked on Track 12?) used for the shoot.

  • omg its insinuating that you can eat on the train lol

  • Umm...you can...

  • :13 wtf? if that guys goin to a restraunt.. why is he getting a meal on the f-ing train!!!?

  • the food is actually pretty good so its like a resturant

  • Railroads in pre-Amtrak days prided themselves on their diner cars, although they took a financial loss for that sumptuous service.

It was like going to a five-star restaurant that rolled along at a hundred miles an hour or better!

Yes, the "Milwaukee Road" (the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific RR) had signs along the tracks for their engineers that warned "Slow to 90" for curves.

Amtrak has decided to emulate that service, to the benefit of riders up and down the Northeast Corridor.

  • Hahah... I 3rd that foamers are nuts . :-)

  • Haha, yes, railfans ARE crazy. I also noticed one more difference in this ad that's inaccurately to Amtrak's real operations... In the commercial, the "flip" signs change by the LETTER. I don't know about all the stations, but in Philadelphia (30th Street Station), the entire WORD flips as one.

Also, instead of just the destinations, there are phrases like "On Time," "20 Late" and "Boarding".

  • The station at the end of the commercial is South Station in Boston. Their giant signs flip letters.

  • Come on folks, the bottom line here is to entice people to take the train rather than fly. Most folks are clueless to railroad operations. Only a rail fan would pick up on those details.

  • My destination: Acela!

(if only I could afford to ride that train!)

150 mph in first-class comfort - not even the once-mighty Pennsylvania Railroad could offer that!

  • Someone on AdTunes suggested that song is inspired by Tangerine Dream's Love On a Real Train.

  • I listened to that song here on YouTube and it does sound very similar.

  • kinda funny how there's no gantlys, an at grade crossing, and the bridge trusses seem to be going by at a slow rate.

Nonetheless though, it is a good commerical for train ridership.

  • Also, that Acela is shown on a single track.

Most of the Northeast Corridor is the old Pennsylvania Railroad's old "Broad Way of Steel", four-tracked most of the way from New York to Washington.

  • From what I read at Wikipedia, there are still 11 grade crossings on the Northeast Corridor - all in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

  • Most of them are in Connecticut. I only know of one at grade crossing in Rhode Island; Westerly Station. All the other crossings have been fenced off, or grade separated

  • Thanks! I've only been in RI once.

  • Yeah i recognize that because i went to boston for school last year so i can relate to the sign

  • The signs also "flip" like that in Philadelphia at Amtrak's 30th Street Station.

  • 30th Street Station (like almost all stations on the Acela route) was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad, which was once the mightiest corporation on earth.

Boston and Providence weren't on the PRR proper, but were on the New Haven RR, which was acquired in the disastrous Penn Central merger, which led to the creation of Amtrak and Conrail.

  • The flip sign is also used at PVD Station

  • I see this Commercial everyday during the 6 AM News. And ive got a fact about the signs flipping:

The flipping(station sign & flipping "destinations") is supposed to represent the station sign in South Station located in Boston MA

  • awesome ad.. check out the amtrak ad i just uploaded. this ones even better tho! Amtrak needs more tv spots!

  • ive seen this. Like it!

  • anyone know the name of this song??? it pwns ass

  • YES!!!! the only reason I searched for this!!!

  • yea, this song is roolz!
