These hooks have nothing sharp on them so therefor it is required that they have to hit the blowhole which has a thich skin layer around it, which makes the whale feel no pain at all. When they are beached the whales are killed instantly within 1 - 2 seconds. Also the pilot whale is not a kind of dolphin and is not near as intelligent.

You have to be aware that they do not do this on a large scale, this kinda thing only happens when somebody on a cliff sees a large herd of them in the bay and this happens about 3 to 4 times a year maybe. They do not kill these mammals on a industry level. They kill about a thousand of them every year. In the 80s they killed about 1500 a year. So it is declining. The Faroe Islands are a separate state, just like Greenland is not Danish anymore. The Danes have absolutely nothing to do with this, Faroeses are an entirely different culture than the Danish.
Denmark is a wonderful country with great record of freedom of speech and democracy. These dolphins get consumed after they are killed. Slaughter house for cows is just as bloody. And both cows and dolphins are delicious. As long as such hunts conducted under supervision that would prevent Calderon dolphins going extinct I see no problem.
Well, they aren't exactly near extinction. They're on the 'Threatened' species list, not 'Endangered'. And a lot of people seem to think the Danes are just killing these whales as an entrance into manhood, but they actually kill these whales for their meat, which is stored and consumed throughout the winter.

These hooks have nothing sharp on them so therefor it is required that they have to hit the blowhole which has a thich skin layer around it, which makes the whale feel no pain at all. When they are beached the whales are killed instantly within 1 - 2 seconds. Also the pilot whale is not a kind of dolphin and is not near as intelligent.

There's no dolphins in this video, it's Pilot Whales, and they are not endangered.
It's not in Denmark, it's in the Faeroe Islands, which are self governed.
They are pulled into shore with a hook in the breathing "nostril" and a knife then cuts the main artery to the brain, killing them in seconds - Not for fun.
And yes, the meat is indeed eaten - NOT left to rot.
As for intelligence, they're as intelligent as pigs, and we eat those allright.

We kill them for meat, for tradition and for getting the people together. We would still be killing the whales if they were fighting back, which they also do in cases, because we need it for food. You have to be aware that they do not do this on a large scale, this kinda thing only happens when somebody on a cliff sees a large herd of them in the bay and this happens about 3 to 4 times a year maybe. They do not kill these mammals on a industry level. They kill about a thousand of them every year. In the 80s they killed about 1500 a year. So it is declining. You should be much more worried about the tuna fish.

You're all reacting to this because you have to see it. Many of the same people who comment will eat a hamburger without thinking twice about the slaughter of the cow. A few points... 1. These animals are nowhere near extinction, not even endangered. 2. The people of the Faroe Island keep good records, the # of whales killed each year has been declining for decades. 3. Commercial fishing accidentally kills many more of these whales which are not even used for food.

From what I understood this is an initiation ritual for the young much in the same way the traditional ritual jump Ngol or naghol from the Pentecost island of Vanuatu serves this purpose. So when you kill dolphins do you take any measures to make sure they aren't extinct and are in healthy population?

We kill much less than 1% of the whale population evry year. There is no way that they are going extinct.
We don't kill mercilesly, we cut their necks because a central nerve is located there. If it's cut off, the whale dies immediatley. And we don't have any other places to kill them, therefor we kill them as soon as they are caught.

Dolphins are such an intelligent mammal, they are fun loving and want to play. I really cannot understand killing them in this way....Vegetarians have survived for thousands of years, eating meat is a luxury, I am sure you could import other foods and whole grains to survive....

The Faroe Islands are a separate state, just like Greenland is not Danish anymore. The Danes have absolutely nothing to do with this, Faroeses are an entirely different culture than the Danish.

Denmark is a wonderful country with great record of freedom of speech and democracy. These dolphins get consumed after they are killed. Slaughter house for cows is just as bloody. And both cows and dolphins are delicious. As long as such hunts conducted under supervision that would prevent Calderon dolphins going extinct I see no problem.

Well, they aren't exactly near extinction. They're on the 'Threatened' species list, not 'Endangered'. And a lot of people seem to think the Danes are just killing these whales as an entrance into manhood, but they actually kill these whales for their meat, which is stored and consumed throughout the winter.
My only issue is with their method of slaughter, which I find to be horribly inhumane.
