Perfect, what a haunting arrangement and performance! In the liner notes, Emmy mentions she asked Guy Clark for his advice when she wrote this song. This and Clark's "Randall Knife" are both brilliant tributes to fathers, capturing the essence of the soon to be gone greatest generation that fought in WWII. It also ranks with Boulder to Birmingham, her tribute to Gram Parson. Those two were mentors to each other in the 1970's. How lucky we still have Emmylou and she just keeps getting better.
HEY jen! do you know what u have on ur hands here???? First-handed pick of artist - one small tip - ur audio pick-up is superb - keep the cam still - even if u have to put it on someones shoulder it will be smoother - great footage - i wish i could have been there

@ThisIsMrNeil Both this song and "Green Fields of France"(No Man"s Land) are both based on the traditional song "The Streets of Laredo"...

Only music and no other art, and only the greatest musician and the purest heart can carry us above ourselves and bring us home.

Tearjerker, great as usual from "Emmylou", the "Queen of the Silver Dollar" and all she touches.
