i'm so fed up with now a day modern life. two storages home does not make me a happy person. tax, insurance, principle, interest and 30 years of slave to a greedy banks plus local government property tax.
@WindRider707 Me and 3 other people lived in a grass house teepee for 2 months in the ozarks. It is quite comfortable if you have the knowledge and skills to do it, and the cooperation of others.
pine tea? if i ever do this (although that is very unlikely for me right now) i will remember that because i love tea :) does it taste good? also what is the name of the song in the backgound i like it. i have wanted to live outdoors full time and i am thinking of either using a tent or tipi.
@PearlsofLife3 Hi pearls, it tastes...ok. Better if you have some yarrow, or sassafras, or mint and other yummy stuff, perhaps some syrup from birch sap, or maple. But it is good for you, more vitamin C than a lot of modern drinks. Tents ok, tipi great, tarp just fine. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions! Thanks
@WindRider707 wow you sang that? your good :) i will keep a look out for it. and yeah as for actually doing this, its very unlikely for a lot of reasons right now. its kinda just one of my many dreams. i hope i can do this someday though, i just probably wont be able to anytime soon. either way i will definitely try some of that pine tea with some of the ingredients you mentioned :) thanks for the tip.
me and my wife just bought a peice of land and are planning on putting a tipi on it. just wanted to say we are inspired by this video. hope we can adjust to it as well as you have.
How are you doing for the food? And the water, is there a creek nearby?
A nice trick is the dakota pit. Its a dug rocket stove that takes air from outside (dont take air through leaks in the tepee and no CO poisoning). Then you make an underground system of rocks to transfer heat on to your body. The dakota pit can burn whatever wood you like as it burns hot and quick with plentiful of oxygen sipped from outside. You can even make a tubular mud chimney that goes out of the shelter.
@Rhinoch8 - My bro adam would prob agree that he has come a long way since that winter years ago with his overall understanding of the tipi. He had been living in it for somewhere around a year perhaps at this point but also has the background of a seasoned outdoorsman. I love the heated rocks idea, I did that when I lived out in the woods, but I didn't build anything major just little lean to's. Springs close by :)
cool video , i wish every one would loose the holly wood tipi look of the flaps open they started doing that when they statrd to photograph in the 1800s cuase it looks cool its not functional it simply lets all the heat out the top the flaps r made to adjust to keep heat in , in the video his r wide open , i have seen other videos expain history an proper funtion of the tipi . put sheet of styrofoam under yur bed thats the best heat reflector same on the out house seat . insant warm .
I have your answer although this was not our video.... we got our tipi from Nomadics tipi makers online.... check out our video by searching "setting up our tipi living your dreams
@cwbeasy1987 cant speak for Adam, but for me-self; wood can be stored in tipi in high enough numbers, and as the body adapts to the mountain winter less and less wood is needed, to the point where fires other than those used for cooking, are most often lit for visitors' comfort. Thanks for watchin
@WindRider707 True. I experienced that after about eight hours spent in the cold, the body changes his metabolism. You feel the cold, but in fact you're hot. When you go back home it's like you have fever, but in fact you're normal temperature!
@WizzleThump : sure! just find folks that dont mind, if you still work and can save money its a great way to build money for land payment. The adjustments in comfort levels are easier than adam makes it look :) :) :) take care!
The germs just arent around, the body gets stronger, and healthy natural diet keeps things going well in body. I and adam both get sicker in town, in and out of climate controlled buildings, touching handles, gas pumps, doors, money, etc. Woods livin is pure livin! :D take care
3 my fav, cast iron tub scavenged or purchased and drug into the woods, up on rocks, creek water heated up like a stew with fire, and long soak! haha, warm water for hair bathing important - ALSO I lived in the woods three years and never got sick.
@Balzy73 ok@Balzy73 HEY thanks for the question. He and I both have spent some time, real time, out in the woods :) I can say from experience that bathing is best done in the following 3 ways 1 in a creek, even in cold, splash bathing, near fire or stove. 2 sweat lodge/sauna, built traditional style, sweat from inside out then rinse with cool water, hot body dries fast and
Please do more on this tipi living, like hygiene, food procurement, some real life stuff. It looks like the tipi guy has a lot more to show us and I'd like to see it. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this video!!! I was wondering what size teepee you might recomend for four people who are going to stay in it year round? We are also trying to figure out weight and what not. It does get down to the 20's and is very wet at times. Thank you
don't worry about the details too much; get the best you can afford, and base "best" on your needs, not price. Ar eyou in a wet area, will you need to to move often, is weight an issue? Those questions will help you narrow. My buddy Eustace lived in his tipi for almost 20 years in a wet woods, he just sews his own by hand! :) good luck
Oh, the bears are ok, they just rummage when youre out. Black bears in our area aren't too bad, pretty sweet most of the time. Also, great source of fur and food during season if you need/want. Bear meat is good. The tipi size is 16'. Thanks4watchin
HEH! Glad to hear that :) It's off of my soon to be released cd "Legendary Song"... I'd love to hit you up with a link when it's done, if you like it you'd prob like all of 'em - custom made for outdoors folk - many other videos also have my tunes in em, THANKS!
bamboo can be used BUT, smoothing th notches is critical, the little notches, just like bumps in trees, will create drips of water in the rain. Those poles are thin trees skinned with draw knife, thanks for watchin'!
man this sucks! survival? you drove all bot 500 yards to camp site...have a truck there.. wear a watch...have chain sawn wood, where are all the provisions, other than the pine needles and squash...candle fire? haha you guys aren't fooling anyone, that has a clue anyways.
sure. a 16' is the way to go in my opinion, 12 is too small and 18-20 are diicult to handle solo. 14 is also good but is 16 is manageable and leaves lots of room as you can see. there are a lot o makers on the net or you can sew your own with canvas and available patterns, i you have time and so on. $600 is an average price I'd say but you can find em less. Decide on extras based on location - mildew resist, fire etc. Elevation on platform is good if possible. Woodstoves ok too.
I tried making pine tea once, it was disgusting.... but all i did was get some water and threw some pine needles in the cup and boiled it... i didnt chop it up or anything :) I also saw that new seminar thing in feb. sounds like fun! :D
how did you find land to put it? did you just find any spot of land and put it there or buy some land or rent?

Secrets of a smokeless fire:
1) Use dry wood
2) Provide sufficient oxygen. (Do not throw too much wood on the fire)
3) Make sure the flame stay lit well. (Dry wood is better)
4) Glowing wood is not a problem only if the wood is completely carbonized.
Otherwise it will get smoking.
5) A good layer of hot and Completely Carbonized wood causes the fire keep burning well .
6) Most of the smoke occurs at the ends of the wood.

so much more than that
WindRider707 1 year ago
@jantjesjantje Or you can make a Dakota pit and burn whatever you want it will make like a rocket engine.
