God I miss Don Cornelius. I don't think the African-American community will appreciate what Don Cornelius has done until years later. He gave us a voice to be hear and a place to let loose and dance. He actually brought soul to the masses. He needs to be honored not only during Black History Month, but in the hearts of humanity.
I was born in 1979 , but didn't get a chance to appreciate music until the 90's . I wish i could have had 1 day , to party with people back in the day , who really enjoy the art of good music . God Bless all of the Soul Train Dancer and Mr.Cornelius , you'll will always be a icon of thru soul music .
R.I.P. Don Cornelius. You were and always will be THE MAN of all generations!! You'll be truly missed. There are not enough words to express what you brought to my youth and my adult life. I am so happy I danced at the many Soul Train parties and events last year. I grew up watching you on channel 26 in Chicago and after others hosted YOUR show on other networks, but nobody could ever take your place. God Bless Your Soul (Train). Wantu Wazuri, Use Afro Sheen...
Peace and soul, Don. Back in my youth, Soul Train would air before or after American Bandstand (on the local ABC station). Like Dick Clark, Don welcomed everyone to dance their troubles away. Some would probably say that Soul Train was the black version of AB, but I greatly beg to differ, as ST pulled out the red carpet for white performers as it did with the greatest of the R&B and soul music world (and AB, to its credit, welcomed black artists on its show). But in closing, Don was the <3 of ST
@Ladiespetmansthreat Magic Johnson owns the right to the SoulTrain Label, he's, as far as i know he's bringing Soul Train back to TV, A newer version.keep your eyes open.
Man! what the hell is going on? The man that put the Greatest performers ever in front of all America, gave a platform all their own and for his own, what a lost~ just so many great positive Blacks leaving this world~ I would say one of the greatest TV host of all time! i would go as far as saying he out did Dick Clark in this format! Micheal Jackson, James Brown, Luther,Lavert, Tina, Rick James,Lou Rawls, Ron Banks,Teddy P, it appears R&B is leaving us and WE being left with Rap~ Garbage DAM!
I love how they pretending to play those instruments. Ha ha ha this song came out in 1980 I was 4. I thought I was alittle older. I remember getting my ass whooped by my ma & dad for singing this song. I thought Something was wrong with my parents. I didn't know what the song was suggesting at the time. Nowadays it's cute to sing songs like this.
MAN I WAS 16 AND GROWING UP IN DETROIT AND JAMMING IN A BAND AND WE HAD TO DO THIS, BACK THEN YOU COULDNT WALK DOWN A STREET WITHOUT HEARING GROUPS REHEARSE THIS ONE LOL ,THANKS
This was REAL MUSIC!! SANG BY REAL SINGERS AND MUSIC PLAYED BY REAL MUSICIANS. LONG LIVE THE FUNK AND R&B...The crap you hear today can't even come close in comparison.
For my listening pleasure, it makes no difference WHICH version of this cut is played! They can play it with or without the "Let's Do It" intro, you can't deny the funk power of this song. To each his own.
@Quest4Redemption cool story. I actually came to this video to see what kind of bass he played on this song, because I'm shopping for a bass and can't decide between a P or J bass. Was leaning towards the P bass and this may have sold it for me. I've always love the bassline in this song :)
@jgk381 actually he played a jazz bass on the song. back then almost everyone lip sang on Soul Train so no one is actually playing/singing in this video. it's just them acting out the song to the record. very few people didn't lip sing on Soul Train over the years. some, but not a lot. although you "see" one bass you are hearing a 72 Fender Jazz bass. If you plan on doing a lot of slapping go with the jazz bass. any particular reason you are making those your only two choices?
@Paragon9000 It's a sad state of affairs but who they like today, they aren't going to like tomorrow. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were very lucky with their Comebacks. Yeah, it's all about getting Paid. I wish that someone would remind this Generation that they are riding on the Shoulders of their predecessor most of which aren't here with us. Luther Vandross, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Donny Hathaway, and of course Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes.
@Paragon9000 I know Hun! This generation listens to Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry while our "Sistas" like Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan can't even get a Recording Contract. Also, I remebered when in 2001 there was Usher, Joe, Tyrese, Sisquo, Mario and with the exception of Usher, the others faded out. Now we have Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Jason Derulo, and they still have to work twice as hard to get The Media Attention that Justin Timberlake may take for granted.
@laminage Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, etc. ALL OF THEM need to sit down and take a listen to Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, "The Queen of Soul" (If I have to tell you her name, you' ve been living under a rock all these years). Beyonce and dem, use all that pyrotechnic crap and wind machines during their act to cover up the fact that they can't sing worth shit and that's what these kids today are buying into. All Chaka, Tina and Aretha needed was music and a microphone and they'd have you!!!
@Footsniffer51 You are so right. I remember hearing them when I was younger, they were so good. I have alot of their songs on my IPOD. My Sister saw them in NY not to long ago, and they were still tight. : - D
@Paragon9000 Good for you! I was 14 when this song came out and I still listen to it on My IPOD. They were one of the Best Groups of that Era along with Midnight Starr, and Atlantic Starr.
The dude on the xylophone is playing off cue..lol Great song. Can appreciate the time when you didn't have to look sexy to sell records because the lead singer...all I can say is..WOW.
damn im 22 and i remeber the ...rerun.. or this man i miss my childhood music when and sittn on the floor watchn our black and white tv with the 2 dials while my mom did her hair and sang along to the songs...gooooood times good timesssss, oh my fave was when they lined up and did the dance thing to the camera i was enthralled see'n people of my color jam happily cross the dance floor (livin in Alabama at the time)
