Oh MY GOD! This is what GOOD SINGING is all about!!! Technique is flawless, it is a powerful and emotional interpretation. I think there are few singers/actors capable of such artistry. I'm always floored when I listen to this. Sara inspires me to work on my own art.
I cannot even believe this! WOW! Sara Ramirez just showed ALL belters EVERYWHERE how it's done! She's SO much more than what she does on "Grey's" THANK YOU for posting this!
:o I don't even know what to say... I can't believe this... She beat the hell out of every single singer who has sung this song, including Patti Lupone and she's my idol... WOW... JUST... WOW
I did NOT say that this was classical music. This is OBVIOUSLY musical theatre. Some one up above way back said, "That's the clearest high E I've ever heard belted" Then some one replied to that person, "You must not listen to classical music." I then said "You don't BELT in classical music" Then went to explain how Sara is actually mixing. And then came you. haha. Yeah, this isn't even the classics of musical theatre. It's a contemporary piece. Hope I cleared up any confusion.
Haha. My apologies. I did not read the whole thread. I just saw your comment about not belting in classical music thinking it was a criticism of Sara's performance.
Bottom line - Sara Ramirez is a force of nature and knocks this song out of the park.
Head voice is when sound resonates in your head, as oppose to chest. Another word for it would be falsetto, although that more often refers to men's voices.
This is not a classical musical... This song is actually made to be belt. I think the only classical rendition of this song that I've heard is Sarah Brightman's. Listen to Patti Lupone, Liz Callaway, Alice Ripley, Stephanie J. Block, Eden Espinosa and so on and you'll realize it. And let me tell you that Sara is a terrific belter and this is the first time I've ever heard her sing.
Well, I don't know about that. Eden's was amazing as well. But, there's something about Sara's voice that makes me want to cry and die and go to heaven everytime I hear it. But, I definitely appreciate Eden as well. I think it's a matter of perference. Sara's voice is richer.
I NEED THE WHOLE THING! NOW!

> That's the clearest I've ever heard that
> high E belted.
You haven't been much to the classic opera, have you? ;-)
DocCovington 3 years ago
I'm talking about belting, not head-voice opera singers.
StarryNight713 3 years ago
Sorry, I'm no native speaker.
Could you please explain that term for me? :-)
DocCovington 3 years ago
Head voice is when sound resonates in your head, as oppose to chest. Another word for it would be falsetto, although that more often refers to men's voices.
StarryNight713 3 years ago
And belting refers to a chest voice, which is when sound resonates in your chest.
StarryNight713 3 years ago
Okay, "chest voice" and falsetto are absolutely clear to me, as I am a musician myself. ;-)
Never heard or read the term "belting" before, though.
Thanks for the explanation. :-)
