Wow!!! Hill climb in an open wheel car, that's crazy. I've driven a Lola F3000 on a road course and have nothing but "respect" for how fast the car is. I would love to do a hill climb, but in a car that has fenders! Great Video!!!
Hill climbing in Europe is very dangerous, like th 80s group b days. This driver died unfortunately. Pluses anther one this year using an f1 engine in a small bmw
To those of you saying F1 drivers don't succeed in NASCAR, yes, that's true. Montoya for example, what is he, a midfielder at best in NASCAR?
But how many NASCAR drivers do you see going to F1? The truth is, an F1 driver can be okay at NASCAR, but the other way round, a NASCAR driver would be nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE in an F1 car.
Oh yeah, how exciting watching a single car drive up a mountain road with guard rails. Oh and take a look at who is driving in nascar. Seems to me all the F1 drivers that have tried have FAILED!
@1stGoRide thats why juan pablo montoya is destroying everybody in nascar right? Just incase youre an uneducated prick like most of these f1 fanboys. Juan pablo left F1 for Nascar, and all he does is get in accidents and finish in the middle of the pack. Nascar takes and equal amount of skill as f1.
@prrao3 Did I ever say NASCAR was better than F1? No, I just said how both take a different kind of skill. NASCAR is about consistency, patience, and endurance. F1 is about reflexes, maneuvering, as well as endurance. But they are two VERY different styles of driving. All I said was that an F1 driver would make a poor Nascar driver, and vice versa. They are just two uncomparable styles.
@1stGoRide right, thats why kimi raikkonen, sam hornish, dario francchiti, juan pablo montoya, and danica patrick are cleaning house in NASCAR right now?
@vettedude418 NASCAR is just rolling advertisement/entertainment. Ask any professional racing driver of any other category and they will tell you that NASCRAP is the type of racing that requires the least amount of skill. It also involves the pure luck of not being involved in the countless crashes that every race has, more than other types of racing. The different 'brands' of cars are the same. When the racing became more challenging, restrictor plates were introduced.

@vettedude418 I was also referring to the average NASCAR driver with background limited to oval tracks.Take a look at the recent Sprint Cup champions and you will notice that they have road racing experience. Kimi only drove a few races. Danica was always a mediocre driver in Indy. TheonlychallengingCupraces are on roadcourses. If you still believethatnotchanginggears andgoinginacircle isthethepinnacle ofdrivingskill, you're just exemplifying the knowledge of the typicalNASCAR fan.
@1stGoRide what im saying is that obviously those previous nascar champs like stewart, and johnson all probably agree that this is the biggest challenge in auto racing, otherwise they wouldnt be there. Hornish, franchitti, speed, patrick, and montoya wouldnt have left the sports they were all doing well in to fall on their faces in nascar if they didnt feel that it was a bigger challenge..
@vettedude418 NASCAR as the biggest challenge in racing? This statement is just incorrect and stupid. Just think about what you have just said. Those who left top level road racing for NASCAR did it for the MONEY. It is also less demanding in every aspect aside from intereviews and commercials. Have you seen old overweight racers in F1 or WRC? They belong in ovals turning left. The aforementioned road racers are mostly not on the top teams/cars either.
@1stGoRide and if you as a motorsports fan think that the shape of a track or "changing gears" is the determining factor of driving skill, then youre just exemplifying the knowladge of a typical ignorant closed minded foreigner.. who's even driving this f3000 car? it seems to me like your suggesting that kimi, or montoya is less talented than this random.. NOT TO MENTION your offensive joke against special needs kids..below the belt man..
@vettedude418 I have never said that a circuit's layout and 'changing gears' were THE determining factor(s), however it is undeniable that they affect the difficulty of the drive. Don't they? In an oval stock car race there is no constant weight transfer between the contact patches F-R;L-R, no heel-toe shifting, the g-forces are pathetic for a race car, theres a dumbed down racing line (no real apexes) and when it rains those pussies stop the race.I havedriven a F3 car by the way.
@vettedude418 Oh, the irony. Before you call somebody a 'close-minded foreigner' or even mention the word 'knowledge', learn how to spell it. Hint: NOT 'knowlAdge'. I'm not suggesting or measuring anybody's talent, but if you think about it, this guy should be faster than Kimi or JPM on that specific car on that particular road because he is used to them.Even themost talentedracers intheworld willbeslowerthan adriver who specializes or isfamiliar with a certain car/track/category.
@1stGoRide true..fair enough..i would be willing to say that if you took the top drivers from any series they could maybe be within a few seconds of this guy, but again, if you took this guy and stuck him in any other series, he would be slower than the majority..whether it was F1, lemans or nascar..just the way racing works
@RetroGamerr1991 Sigh. People never leave me alone on this one. Let me clarify that I was referring to the typical, mid-pack/rear runner NASCAR driver, drivers that have experience limited to ovals. Jeff Gordon is not only a four-time Sprint Cup champion but he also has experience in the International Race of Champions and the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. By the way, his early career was in Quarter Midgets, not karting.
0:42 is not wall contact... it's the car bottoming out -_- he'd be DONE if there was wall contact. Open wheeled cars aren't forgiving with that kind of punishment.
Lionel REGAL, one of the best driver in europeen hillclimb. I fing F3000 is not so dangerous as F2 on montain road. The F300 killed 2 drivers in 15 years, Marc REGAL and his son Lionel REGAL. On track race 1 drivers was killed.
The F3000 is not so dangerous as group C cars like Simone FAGIOLLI's Ossella FA30.
on 15 August 2010, lionel regal died (the first driver), crashed into trees, RIP......... if not, he could of been faster then senna............................this is what you call driving
@19jct77 That's the road which leads to the very top of Mount Ventoux and it is public. Bump strips are mounted permanently for safety reasons. Epic FAIL.
This is not an f1 but modern f3000 cars being used at hill climbs, very cool shit. For those of you who don't know hill climbs are like a rally race, point to point racing against the clock. Most of these hillcimbs are indeed held on normal roads.
Contrary to some "experts", this video is NOT sped up. It is regular speed. The video and audio are in perfect harmony; the telltale sings are the gearshifts. Watch the driver's right hand when you hear an upshift. Yeah, it looks fast; he's driving a freakin' RACING CAR!!! They go fast!!!
@MTxHulk i guess this is quite quick, but if you think this guy is gutsy you should have a look at some of the dedicated hill climb cars, some even run the same engines but weigh less, much less. And this guy such a wimp driving on a 2 lane road, British hill climb may not be as high top speed, but on a road slightly wider than the car, 2 m wide i would guess, something around 700hp to 500kg for the high end cars, oh and rember they arnt built with millions of dollars
@MTxHulk - Those cars are set up to run so perfectly it doesn't take much to drive them well. F1 cars are like driving a Ferrari and Nascar is like driving a dump truck.
@MTxHulk it takes more skill from the driver to race nascar, because in nascar all the cars are tuned basically the same, in f1 racing cars may be tuned different..... one is not any more exciting than the other, there just different.
