  • at 1:41 they get all tangled up. hate it when that happens.

  • Why the hell are you guys talking about what you thinknig fencing is?!?!?!?! in my mind id consider this spam >_> ....You all act like you KNOW fencing but you probably dont. =/

  • @Roarzambimaru Very true-thanks for bringing sanity back into this. Some of these guys are just preaching their own view on fencing as if its pure indisputable fact.

  • Most matches its usually the aggressor that takes the win

  • Makes me want to stand on the piste right now :-D.

  • pero que pedo que tienen con el marcador y las luces

  • the camera sucks. fencing is awsome. i fence sabre though not epee. i used to fence foil

  • Fencing takes: Reflexes, ability to read other people and theyr tactics and to be able to use them against them, tactic eye, imagination, flexibility and some kind of bravery

(This is just what I think)

  • your right fencing does take these things but dont forget the thing i love most about fencing it gives you your own finesse and style and helps you appreciate well.... you.

    can i get an amen.

  • Amen!

  • +strength endurance and athleticism

dont forget those they are very important

  • These fencers are Awesome! Fencing is a little bit about reflexes, but it is more of thinking it through. For instance if i were fencing you and i did 1 then you might do a or maybe b, generaly the better u r the more responses u have. The way to score a touch is to make your oponent make a mistake, or too setup an attack. Nice bout though!!

  • wats that thing on their back?...

  • Their surnames. u can get ur surname and country on ur back e.g Azanrouzia-Kouzankov RUS

  • i have been fencing for almost a year now, and am already top of my advanced class, weird right? i think its because the others think they kno everything and don't pay any attention

  • So big-headed of you

  • Where the hell is the 3rd part?

  • Ja!

    Sie sind richtig!

  • Man I love Fencing

Nothing better than the thrill of being on the piste

  • totally agree, what weapon do you fence with?

  • Epee competitively, but I'll fence all weapons.

You'll find them on my channel

  • Ok, I will watch it! Thanks!

  • Epee. For about 15 years now.

I always wanted to learn/fence sabre (Säbel) also. But there's no club or school near my home town where I could learn this weapon...!

  • that's too bad, i've done 3 months of foil now and i switched to sabre, they both are a lot of fun, but sabre is a bit more intensive.

  • Yes, I also think so!

Many greetings from Germany and all the best for you and your further "fencing-career"! :o)

  • viele grusen zuruck aus belgien!! :)

  • well saber happens to have alot of footwork

  • Ive done epee now for 2-3 months now but sabre is interesting but doesnt seem to have enough "Sword Action", Is this true?

  • in some ways, due to speed its far harder for people to do moves like Coules, Envelopments, binds, beats and other tricks like the point weapons do, which i think makes sabre less fun to fight as its less mental and the most physical of the weapons, depends on what you're good at.

  • sabre is faster, but if both opponets are skilled enough, and know how to predict their opponets move, then the match could last quite a while.

  • i miss my fencing classes!

  • me too!

  • the third bout was a bit messy though. amazing fight they use very wide foot work, it must be hard to pull that off

  • lol guys kolobkov invented his own footwork style. so did eric boisse in france. thats why they fence so radically differently from others... that and the fact that kolobkov is a god

  • 2:22 i don't think kolobkov needs to work on footwork... :D

  • Пойдите Россия! Кто соглашается со мной?

  • if you ask me a guy wasnt paying attention a bit enough thats why he was hit so easily no offence i mean they're still great fencers, im almost going to advance to metel and im nine

  • don't you start with metal no matter what age you are???

  • I've been fencing for three years, and I'd just like to say thanks for posting this video...and is it just me or does Kolbkov need to bring in his back leg a bit? I dunno, i could be wrong..they fenced a great bout. 5/5

  • each person fences their own style so, whatever

  • This is true, bu the reason the formal style was invented was because it was a very good median that didn't put too much stress on your body. A too wide of a stance puts alot of strain on your knees.

  • OMG!!! Will i ever fence like them???????? are they gods?

great work with feet by Verwulen and great defence patience by Kolobkov!!!1

  • Kolobkov is really good...I loses him with the same score like as a Verwiljen...

  • NICE! I'm a fencer, though not professional and this video shows some useful moves! I'm glad someone posts real fencing on youtube, not foil or sabre. EPEE RULES!

  • what moves? I've only fenced for a year and really, the real skill here is using the basics the way these guys do. the most radical move here is either a fleche or the 1st parry

  • It's not really what they do, it's how they do it! You dont score by just making good moves, you score by using your reflexes and cunningness! These people know how to fence really good, by watching this you can learn a trick or two!

  • touche

  • Fencing is actually about not using reflexes at all, rather to plan everything. If you have a reflex, your opponent can use it, so you have to constantly anticipate your opponents moves. An "easy" way to do this is to control them, to guide him in the right direction.

If you're interested in epee fencing tactics, you should check out the book written by 1980 Olympic gold medalist Johan Harmenberg, Fencing 2.0. It's a great read!

  • how can you plan something when there's an opponant? You can't possibly know what he's gonna do. You can study him if you want, but there's still no guarantee he'll do something expected. Ofcourse reflexes count, but other things are important too

  • well, you can "prepare" an action/movement, but there's no way in which your opponent will, necessarily, fall into your game. However, the point of fencing is to make your opponent fall into your game, thus your movements/attacks must be based on your own game, not on the opponent's. This means: taking for granted that the other guy will do this or that is a certain way to loose

  • Im a foilist, you think it'd be a good read for me?

  • Definitely, it's an interesting read no matter what. The tactics, however, are more easily applicable to epee.

  • Where is part 3!?

  • Kolobkov is the best fencinger in the world, this is true))))

  • Marvelous touch at 2.45

  • i agree

  • 3.13! that is a nice touch as well!

  • Oh, good call. I imagine you are the authority on real dueling weapons, you must be an incredible fighter to be in such good health. How many actual duels did you say you fought? I bet if any one of these "boys" fought you in a duel they'd get killed wouldn't they? How sad that they don't kill each other in fencing anymore.

    Good call. Very good call.

  • thumbs up bro.

  • You rock something fierce, dude!

  • I'm confused because the post-production scoring is opposite of the scoring on the piste monitor...

  • the piste monitor is correct and the post production is flipped, kolobkov (rus) is fencing on our left

  • Just quickly, what's with Verdmullen not bending his back leg? Is he injured or something? Thats a really basic error...wtf?

  • He's terrified but trying to be intimidating with aggressive posture rather than aggressive fencing. Just watch 4:40 and you'll see he's in the wrong mindset.

  • Verwijien came to my club a few weeks back i fenced him the score was 15-11 then later i found out who he was. lol i fenced him again later that day he killed me 15-3 o well

  • can anyone tell mi how to use a french grip??? pls!!!

  • Oh my god, you are a loser. if you don't know how to use a french grip you deserve to go and, i don't know...do kendo or something. just shows how much of a loser that relies on a pistol grip you are.

  • just a matter of preference, i can use both and i prefer Belgian pistol.

  • He doesn't "rely" on it a-hole, he has never used anything else and probably doesn't know anyone decent with a french grip. At least he's asking and not just holding like a jackass with no control and claiming to be a "purist" fencer.

  • Try to hold it up like a broomstick near the end away from the bristles. Your thumb should be over, fingers under, and your index finger even (underneath) with the thumb. You can either hold it at the very end with the pommel in your palm (like a jackass since you get it knocked out of your hand every action) or you can keep the pommel around where you take your pulse on the wrist. You should be supinated (fingers up) and take actions just like with the pistol grip.

  • go pavel! go pavel! go russia!

    yeah, russia's the best!

  • how come in fencing all they do it thrust and parry, there are no slashes really, i mean hasnt modern fencing evolved from 16th-18th century fencing. it seems like they should be slashing and thrusting instead of just thrusting

  • It's off of the traditional weapons. There never was a slashing and thrusting weapon out there although sabre would be the closest. Or at least not one which was used in fencing.

  • Foil and Epee are all about parrying and stop hitting, lunging, parry repost, fleshing, etc. Sabre you can also get a point by hitting with the sides of the blade, which is why there is slashing involved.

  • well, there is slashing in sabre fencing

  • how can you call it gay and then ask for foil or sabre? Epee and Foil fencing aren't differents sports, they're different applications of fencing. PS All foil people do is charge and wave their foils around anyways.

  • So true about the Foil man. Epee is the shit.

  • no freaking way, not with the new timing. besides, the verdmullen guy looks so awkward...

  • this stinks

  • true..but ive seen alotta guys with crummy footwork, but their smart and quick so it doesnt matter (especially if bladework is their forte).

  • the dutch guy's footwork is all over the place

  • It is great!Where is the 3/3?
