since there is a flame war going on i thought that i try and help clarify a bit, as far as i know the Japanese do not have la li lu le lo or any other forms that directly involve the letter l however they actually mix R and L together so when they say rip it almost sounds like Lip, I may have been raised in America but i am trailing my roots and learning Japanese on my own

People with thick Japanese accents may sound hilarious to us... and yeah, a Japanese accent happens to sound rather funny and/or cute... but we need to keep in mind we likely sound hilarious to them too.

Let's be a little less Western-centric and realize that English isn't the only language people sound silly learning.
