@salsa838: Agreed. However, alankars are also an important aspect of the practice of Hindustani music. I hope you will agree that the 'sargam geet'/composition is in fact evoking of the mood of the Raga? Others have told me our rendition, while simple, presents the basic essence of Bhairav.
raga bhairva is an ancient raga associated with lord shiva.very very difficult to play or sing correctly.lots of do s and dont s are there.straight forward running up and down the scale is not correct bhairav.thats why its not much sung.it combines wonder, austere, sensual and by a good musician bhakti and surredder too are evocked.
@vidaripollen : You are correct that Bhairav is a difficult Raga to master. We are sharing here our simple steps at engaging with Bhairav. The 'sargam geet' or 'composition' that we sing is an evoking of the Raga from the Vishnupuri Gharana. Your interpretation might vary. Thanks for your comment.
I am learning classical music since fe months. I love Rag Bhairav so much though I don't know as I have to learn it. This is a very good video for learning. Thanks for uploading it. Thanks Renuka for sharing this link...
so this bhairav sounds like mayamalavagowlai of carnatic - i have heard other bhairav(hindustani) renditions that sound like sindhu bhairavi in the carnatic scale - are there different flavours of the same raag?(bhairav)
Yes - Bhairav is pretty much the North Indian version of mayamalavagowla. Bhairav is also the name of a That [family of ragas] from which descend various ragas which have some similarities with Bhairav. It turns out 'BhairaVI' is a completely different raga and That that uses different notes.
Excellent effort and nice pick on Raag Bhairav. I felt everyone pitched in beautiful and it sounds really cool as a team composition. I would like to suggest, if I may - would not it be a nice idea to end with a pakad?
Hi, thanks for your comment. My limited understanding of pakad does not include how to include it in a composition? Here is one that I know, but I thought it was more part of an alap sequence? "Ga Ma Ri, Sa, Ni Da Ni Sa Ri Sa". Suggestions welcome.
Bhairav is a self evolved Raga.Listen to it at 5.00 am and i assure you a full satisfaction

I would agree they are the same - Bhairon is a slightly more colloquial way of saying the name.
