  • Definitely compares with David Oistrakh's version. Hell-raising virtuosity at the highest level. I'm shocked to hear such perfection from anyone let-alone a young lady. I am Hiliary's ardent fan after watching this video. Bravo! I will buy all of her cds tomorrow.

  • Prokofiev was obviously insane and hated violinists. :)

  • Comment removed

  • fucking love metal and classical music, but classical and especially prokofiev is a whole different level of excellence man!

  • HH at her Hottest...........

Heard her debut in the Wigmore and now several times in Berlin.

    A great player.........

  • I love this!!! It's so AMAZING!!

  • There's nothing she can't do on violin. It's insane. Her level of skill is as high as is possible, I think.

  • Hilary just does everything better... that's for sure.

  • Es mejor la interpretacion de Lisa Batiashvili & Wiener Philharmoniker

  • how the hell is that possible...

  • this is crazy....absolutely too good to be true....

she must be magical too do that....

  • the only reason anyone could dislike this is because not getting to see this performed live sucks.

  • She made Prokofiev her bitch.

  • one person has no fingers....

  • I started clapping at the end, but then I realized that I wasn't actually there....

    :/

  • @JFCaldwell you don't clap between movements, lol that would have been akward if you were

  • Also the conductor for making the music come to life... He's one of the best of the young generation -- amazing!

  • Prokofiev sure knew how to delight an audience and torture a soloist.

  • GUAUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Incredible <3

  • i tried playing along... and failed

  • amazing done! but the green dress is just too awkward.

  • how the hell did she get all the running notes so clean?

  • such a beast of a movement- like a gigantic pot of spagehtti boiling over

  • I thought about getting a violin... And then i watched this :(

  • Prokofiev = grand génie

  • It's really irritating me how the audio and video aren't matching up haha

I was actually sort of disappointed... I was sort of expecting a bit more finesse and a sharper, more nervous sound, and while I'm not sure "pesante" was written anywhere in the movement (I have yet to buy the music), I wish she played the G-string passage that way.

  • i love the facial expression right before she plays the last note =p

  • Talk about manic.

I like those pizzicato bass/french horns imitating bells.

  • I want her violin!!!!

  • @wgj7gec it is a J.B. Vuillaume, if you want to know...

    I love it too : )

  • Oh my, I can't do those glissando octave harmonics perfectly.

She does it crisp and clean

Wait, this whole performance is crisp and clean

  • she really has gorgeous sound and spectacular consistency and volume in the stratosphere, doesn't she? rarely her articulation gets lost, but when it does, it hurts me. she can really whip a horse's ass!

flute could be much louder on the high Ds. can barely hear them. sad face.

  • peu de compositeurs conjuguent l'imagination l'invention le délire avec ce métier, cette logique et cette folle énergie

bravo Prokofiev aucune trace de remplissage chez toi (chez tes collègues en revanche... ... !)

  • SHE'S LIKE IN MILLIONTH POS!

  • This has lots of arabian influences... Maybe Prokofiev went there while composing this concerto! =)

  • Reminds me of a snarling cat @2:45+ and especially @ 2:53

wow I would love to learn this song so much!

  • @euch27 enfin quelqu'un qui écoute, bravo

  • you dont get bored when you watch this violin concerto. Awesome!

  • God-like playing of divine music

  • only about 30,000 views?

  • Hilary Hahn was born to play this concerto!

  • @mykeeviolin

    lol! She's AMAZING, isn't she?

She was born to play and amaze. Period.

  • @NemoProkofiev551 yes quite so. she's so nice in person too.

  • She's wonderful at playing Prokofiev! It would be a real treat to hear her play Prokofiev's "Death of Juliet", mind you. =)

    5*!

  • I'm in awe at how anyone could even think up a sound like this, yet here it is....

That passage at 2:13 literally made me shiver, it's so black and macabre.

  • What an awesome performance!

  • it looks also Prokofiev is merciless with the violin.

  • I'm a bit turned on..

  • @mrblink008 I wonder if artists ever check out their youtube videos for feedback and come away with an urge to hurl.

  • @mrblink008 T.M.I.

  • so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Boy, Prokofiev sure is creative with the violin...Hilary Hahn is now my fav violinist.

  • wow she's so good. what a amazing piece.

  • We live in a great time :) Im going into shock now!

  • @1:23

  • How is this possible???!!!

  • As number one, the video is too early.

  • beyond godlike, her technique is so flawless it seems to float into your brain and stays there saying "LISTEN AGAIN! AGAIN!" beautiful

  • Seconded. I must have listened to this for the tenth time, now.

  • @kimiessu

    Same!

  • At 2:45 she achieves something between flageolet and the normal color which goes so well with the bold mood of the music.

  • I was just about to comment on the exact same thing!

  • I think it's ponte cello. which she does extremely well

  • you are the besttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • I am not a violinist but a pianist and I hever never heard Prokofiev's violin concerti but having studied some of his music hearing this makes me appreciate him even more as a composer. Most of his works for piano are exceptionally difficult but this looks hard to play just as well . lol

  • @Hervinbalfour Indeed, not anyone could play it :-S

  • how do u pluck while playing????

  • @misszezcullen The left hand is used for plucking; very difficult! >.<

  • she looks weird moving like that

  • dammmnnnmm

  • OMG OMFG WTH WTF WTFH

  • the flageolets give me goosebumps, what an amazing technigue she has

  • brilliant

  • This was Also amazing!

  • shes such a beast

  • i cant stop watching the whole concerto every day

  • indeed, its addictive

  • she's not human....my God!

  • You are right, that kind of precision isnt normal... i mean, she is like the female Heifetz!

  • she looks like she's dancing Robot moves in 2:30 till 2:40 :) i love her performance, im playing his second concerto, the first movement.

  • haha, ... you´re right :D

  • She's so incredibly accurate.. Hilary Hahn is fantastic. Something caught my eye, though.. She didn't use a mute at "2:48', and instead she played sul ponticello. Any thoughts?

  • I love the effect actually

  • is should be the opposite (first time on ponticello and second time sordina), but anyway wonderful.

  • This concerto is amazing. It makes my Symphonie Espagnole look easy

  • I think Hilary Hahn is the best violinist in the entire universe in my opinion. Not overly emotional, and near perfect, (because one can never achieve perfection), and she doesn't make stupid faces. :D Well it's just my opinion I prefer music that's well played and not overly-emotional.

  • wow everyone who put a thumbs down, mr00aznkid said that it was in HIS OPINION! yes i do agree with you too.

  • I know, but I dont care about thumbs down and what-not.

People don't seem to understand what an opinion is, and when it contradicts their's, you get the rest.

I guess, it's bad to be honest and to compliment a good violinist. :D

  • At 0:50, she seems to be looking towards the concertmaster. I've seen so many videos of her, but I've never seen her do this. I wonder this was just a random glance or whether there was some "cue" that either the concertmaster or she had to take from the other...

  • my god, i would be so intimidated. she is so consumed by it...love it

  • she's so calm up there...i'd freak out in front of that big of an audience

  • god shes a genious and so is prokofiev

    i love this

  • wow... what a powerful performance!

  • amazing

  • So in control...

  • I'm very adore Hilary... she is really best

  • one of my fav violin concertos played by my fav violinist =)
