"our plan was to start at about 50 thousand feet altitude, at three thousand mile an hour, and to use one continuous rocket burn to decelerate to a hover in the landing area" ... I LOVE THIS MAN (and I'm a dude!) ... It's a privilege to be alive in the same age as these heroes were alive! Take that odysseus (wait, he was a fake hero, these mofo's are real!) ... :)
I remember that day like it was just yesterday. I was just a kid, but it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life
Its my opinion that the United States should devote herself ti the exploration of space again. At no point in our history have we ever felt more alive or more proud as a nation. This country needs to return to those days when the heroes of the space program were what children wanted to be.
5:55- 6:50 is my ringtone.. (the original transcript.. not this one) the last 30 Seconds before humans landed on another heavenly body...
if i ever figure out a way to go back in time (which is impossible according to the theory of relativity... for now... and also it would creates paradoxes) I would go to july 20th 1969..
kennedy challenge was that wed land on the moon and come back. didnt say anything bout picking up and rocks. but if yall gonna land on the moon, you otta pick up some rocks
Imagine your a former Apollo astronaut standing in your backyard on a windy moonlit night and you look at the moonlight shining upon everything, reflecting off tinroof's and lighting up contrails and allowing you to see the horizon. You remind yourself once in a while, in a strange way that you where once standing on that object that is casting that light. It must be a wierd feeling knowing that. I wonder if the Earth lights up the surface of the moon when its dark side is facing us?
@SepradistPhantom Columbia's the name of CSM (Command/Service Module). The people in Houston were able to communicate with Michael Collins who was in CSM but not with Neil Armston nor Buzz Aldirin who were in the Lunar Module (It's also called the Eagle). That's why they wanted Michael Collins to tell Neil Armston to choose a different antenna of the Lunar Module for communication.

@ SepradistPhantom As the video states, Mission Control was relaying instructions to the CSM, who in turn would relay the instructions to the LEM.
Apollo 11's CSM was called Columbia, with Mike Collins aboard.
The LEM was called Eagle, with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin aboard.

@ 1:40 - Just listen to Neil Armstrong as he describes PDI... his are the well thought out words of a scholar, and a TRUE American Hero!
BTW... Steve Bales (the Guidance Officer, or GUIDO) made a very gutsy call on the 1202 program alarm... he accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom
from President Nixon on behalf of the entire Apollo 11 flight control team.

Where can I get this background music?

NASA should have played that background music live as Neil descended the LEM to the lunar surface xD
