  • Love the blonde on the drums ......

  • this is the first record i ever bought. i was so young my cousin had to get it for me, i was only 7. double single with the urdu version b-side, still have it

  • CLASS

  • ERA, glad i grew up during this time. after that it went fake.

  • i just like to say that this song is made well.

  • Without a doubt, simply one of the greatest songs of the 80's.

  • class tune aint heard it in years think it was a go-gos song belinda carlisles band

  • great tune, brings back good memories, didnt know at the time myra hindley played the drums for fun boy three...

  • i wish fb3 had a string of uk #1 hits!

  • Just absolutely brilliant! U forget in this world of crAp music how brilliant the 80's were! Thank you for uploading this video x

  • Anybody know who the blonde drummer is? She looks familiar?

  • @lambrettali175 Communards

  • @Premonition64

Ah yes, June Miles Kingston, Cheers bud ;-)

  • @lambrettali175 June Miles-Kingston. Also drummed for the Communards and Everything but the Girl

  • @lambrettali175 June Miles-Kingston

  • av it...

  • Simple but poignant lyrics. I rest my case mi'Lud,

  • Clio Rocco on Cello!

  • I'm 21 and I discovered this yesterday.

Such a sweet remedy to counterbalance brash, hypersexualised contemporary music. This really is a treat. Timeless, understated brilliance. Thank you so much for uploading this.

  • Love it Love it!!! think I'll go break out one of my Specials albums...

  • great tune but not writen by them it was a cover of a go go's cover actualy quite an old record before they did it !!

  • @wildhorseshadwell Pretty sure it was co-written by Terry Hall and one of the go-go's. The go-go's released it as a single first, before The Fun Boy Three released this superior version.

  • It was co wrotten by Terry Hall & Jane Wiedlin , he was shagging her breifly when the Specials toured America and the Go Go's supported them which is when the song was written .The Go'Go's were the first to release it as a single.

  • I was doin milkrounds listening to SKA..timeless classic A+++++

  • brill

  • STILL A GREAT TUNE

  • As a lad of a certain age when this was out (who had decided to identify with 'rock' music) - I had to pretend to dislike this - but in 2011 - I'm out - it's brilliant.

  • WHY THE FUCK CAN'T THE "SO-CALLED" MUSICIANS OF TODAY TRY AND WRITE MUSIC LIKE THIS? The shit were being fed at the moment is killing mankind. (Crime-rap, x-factor-crap, lady gaga, etc etc)

  • @TEDOVSKY Cos they cant write music, its all done for them, manufactured shite ;-)

  • @TEDOVSKY look beyond your mainstream chart shit and you'll find good music is still being made

  • @TEDOVSKY hear hear someone with taste!!!

  • @TEDOVSKY they are trying to breed idiots who are easily fooled , brainwashed.

  • i would give my soul and all the rest of my years on this earth to relive 1983 again...:(

  • @killicomaine Know that feeling well :(

  • Great editing. You would think that this wonderful band had 1 white guy, 2 white chicks, and NO black members at all. Somebody needs a promotion.

  • Who's the lady drummer? I also see her as the drummer in a live set of Everything But The Girl.

  • @shaman8 the drummer is june miles-kingston, played alot in the 80s, brilliant drummer

  • Quintessential early 80's genius. Its amazing how the Specials evolved into FBT

  • Brilliant!

  • Cracking stuff, still sounds as good as anything about today.Very cool.

  • @18supersport Its better than all the crap xfactor we have now mate

  • I think June is just awsome and bloody sexy!

  • Pure 80's bliss.

  • Saying that, Neville Staples looks bored shitless in this video!

  • brilliant live version..!

  • ..fuckin gorgeous song!

  • HOW COOL just mint.. proper music ...wheres it gone what happened !!

  • Timeless, brilliant, so cool then and is still very cool-icey!!!

  • Never heard this version until now. Makes a change from The Go-Go's and the Duff sisters.

  • same here

  • a great 80s song, which i haven't known so far. thanks to german tv crime series "tatort" i know it now.

  • One of the most important pop songs ever. They never listen anyway. It's about child abuse and of course when you are a child no one listens anyway.

  • @TheMimifur If you're serious, you're deluded. If you're not serious, you're not funny.

  • @TheMimifur it's one thing to think shit, it's another to write it down.

  • @modshroom I'm 16 and enjoy good music.

  • this song enabled me to be a teenager: AAAARGH! they still rule

  • That dude is probably old as shit now.

same with everyone else commenting on this video.

My bet is that YOU, yes YOU reading this, are over 30.

  • @modshroom so what?

  • @modshroom Correct. Pleased with your silly self now?

  • @AAtillairey7Ps

so fucking pleased bro. so fucking pleased.

  • @modshroom That 'dude' is still one of the most charismatic front men in the history of popular music. Back where he belongs with one of the most iconic bands on the face of the planet. I'm glad to be older than 30 (I'm 45, as it goes). I'd have hated to have missed Terry Hall with The Specials as a youngster, and I'm getting to enjoy them all over again now they're back together. Lucky old me!

  • @SexistDefenceLeague

    Lucky old you.

  • my matesbest ever record lol buzz on

  • he was sooo cool !!

  • I know that band came later, but this is definitely Terry Hall's "Style Council" moment...

  • @TONYM1966 true

  • i dont like changes the made to the original lyrics. good sound though. original still slays though.

  • @electroxxxd

only little changes though lectro, and i guess this is terry's version of what they wrote together.

does anybody know who the drummer/vox is?

  • Love the guitar on this version.

  • this is sooooo much better than the go-gos version.terry halls voice just has so much emotion in it.

  • That's some hair!

  • Klasse song aus den 80ern.

  • Good version of great tune.

    David Bowie influence obvious.

I miss the late 60's and early 70's. Incredible explorations of music.

  • it dosent matter what you say

  • rubbish 80s tosh ,after what they did with the specials

  • Like it, but it sucks away the musical 'twist' of the track ("It doesn't matter what they say" etc.) , dilutes it, makes it 'softer'.

Still, it's pretty cool, anyway, I like this version. ;)

  • Very different version to the Gogos, but very good indeed. Clear diction as well.

  • yeah, that is a timeless track, from Terry Hall from Fun Boy 3, which he co Wrote with Jane from the Go Go's, he was even better when he was in the Specials, it's great to see him back touring again, after the troubles he had, he is still a great performer, long live Terry Hall.

  • @MsAnneThropist I hope so as i have tickets to see him in October!

  • Brill brill brill!

  • O>K>?

  • A delight to my ears.

Thanks for sharing this brilliant song.

    ++10++/Fav

  • wow!! just wow!

  • @janweltevreden Terry is still alive!

  • Ha! I was a cameraman on this!! Went out live on Channel 4 from our cute little studios in Bushey near Watford.

  • 24 peoples ears must be sealed! How can anyone dislike this song! Pure class!

  • The Lead Singer is Such A Bore !

  • @IDRIS1130

The lead singer was the lead singer of The Specials. Go watch Falcon Crest, Idris. :P

  • @IDRIS1130

Although I must admit that FBT is damn boring compared to The Specials. Maybe you're right :P

  • @fritzo62 Just look at him I mean he showed more emotions with The Specials, for god sake! .

  • @IDRIS1130

True. Terry switched from the rude boy ska attitude to something i'd call new wave coolness. It was hip at these times not to show too much emotions, maybe that's why he looks as if he got asleep while singing ;P

  • @fritzo62 Ok I See.Now !

  • @IDRIS1130

;-) I guess I'll check out Falcon Crest

  • @fritzo62 Yes I Hope You Like It !

  • does anyone else think cocaine was involved?

  • Terry and Jane had an affair. When Terry wrote Jane a letter about their situation and ending their relationship Jane tool parts of the letter Terry wrote for lyrics and the title

  • Classic

  • The only thing missing, is the explendid Bass of the Gogo´s cover- believe me, the Gogo´s bass is great.

  • what a fantastic song. xxx

  • That drummer looks miserable.

  • @SleepyDisso She was going for miserable to be cool.

  • This is so beautiful.

  • @jukeboxjunkie @Joeyclimax sorry...it was poorly written and reads misleading...TH in my opinion is - " A painfully underrated....true collaborator". I love his projects, Specials, FB3, Las Vegas, collabs w/ Lightening Seeds, Brama, etc. i'm just a drug and alcohol counselor.

but thank you for reminding me why i also commented about the bitter nature of humans and their need to comment...even/ESPECIALLY if it is to say something negative :) I can delete my opinion if it will bring you peace

  • Comment removed

  • warning: this OPINION is based on my personal experience/taste/knowledge - a painfully underrated long term successful musician/lyricist/vocalist/human being who epitomizes the words cool & inspiring. true collaborator

love how people are so driven by hate/anger/jealousy/fear they HAVE to comment on stuff they know NOTHING about or understand.

youtube continues to remind me why humans suck. at least the dinosaurs can blame mother nature, but we will surely die by our own hand and tongue

  • @stomponly full of yourself much? Suicide is painless.

  • @stomponly Can you give your OPINION without all the egotistical bullshit first? Nobody cares how much you love yourself, they're here for the videos.

  • @stomponly completely agree

  • terry hall copied my hair dos.. fucking legend mr Hall

  • Terry Hall looks like judge reinhold in Beverly Hills cop.

    or Paula Yates

  • wasnt really into the mod/ska thing, but thespecials/fbt where superb

  • @missinglink27 Yup. But at least we can spell it.

  • wow, I'm an idiot, because I think Heroin Spun Musicians sound like the life force has been sucked out of them, because it has, by the HEROIN! So, no worries, mate, you go ahead and go back to shooting up and the rest of us, who don't need smack to work through our pain (Marine Corps officer ) will go on making something of our lives. See you at the morgue, junkie! with the rest of your cheeba buddies.

  • @SuperBigrandy I agree completely about the junkie comment. BUT, you being a military man doesn't make you immune to anything. There are thousands of VETS living on the streets hooked on heroin too, probably to hide the pain and memories of war.

  • That young lady playing the cello is SMOKIN" HOT

  • @Danielmutt while this may sound agonisingly shallow as compared to other responses to this vid, I have to agree with you, i mean, phwoaarrrrr! etc

  • I loved this by Go Go's in the 80's but I STILL love FBT's version more ;-)

  • A brilliant song by Terry but the Go-gos do it better

  • love the drummers hair :)

  • This is one of the most important songs of the 80s. Terry is brilliant and who knew at the time what his pain was.

  • classic !

  • cool!

  • Terry Hall is amazing!!

  • wow what a tune

  • @SuperBigrandy Idiot

  • Such a brilliant song and the specials and fun boy three were THE eighties band in the uk.

  • @jwattie Something Special alright

  • Fun Boy Three= springtime fresh!

  • hey newmusicnetwork what do you know about the history of this song or the band? some music expert you are maybe you think the killers wrote shadowplay and not joy division too? our lips are sealed was written by terry hall (frontman of the specials & fun boy three), he wrote it about his affair with jane from the gogo's in a letter and jane had written it into a song. fun boy three came out with their version of it two years after the gogos released theirs

  • @johnnycantcount True!!! Am a big fan of The Specials & Joy Division & soooooooo much more. Always loved Terry Hall, btw. Do you have FB3's 12'' of Our Lips Are Sealed? The Urdu version is my fave. I used to play it to all my friends who came over (amongst a ton of other stuff).

  • Comment removed

  • @johnnycantcount .....yeaaaaah bro, thats true...and one thing i know now, that TERRY HALL is from the COLORFIELD right?...thanks for the lesson sir...you are the defender of the 80S......

  • @rtupas45 ..ITS AWESOME...FUCK....WHAT A GREAT BAND....ITS DIFFERENT TO ALL....REALLY LOVE THE 80s...

  • @johnnycantcount ..knowledge is a wonderful thing !

  • @johnnycantcount

look on your records, it's a J. Wiedlin / T.Hall song. So it's something like a collaboration between The GoGos and FB3. They met when the GoGos were supporting The Specials in the USA and again in the UK.

  • Petulant pouting pensive Terry

  • So "IN VOGUE" for the era, sooooooooooo much better than the shite they record today

  • @tartin69 Amen to that!

  • She aint really playing the drums...watch her right leg.......

  • I make FB3 as the most under-noted New Wave group.by today's general public. In thier short duration they were so good! BTW,; very cute gals in the ensamble.

  • Fair point schanche0...but you understand what I'm saying...It's not sung and preformed by the Go Go's the original group...But I do understand your comments

  • At last a cover that betters the original

  • @nakedcook42 It techically is the original as both the co writers perform here.

  • 'Hurts' were on Graham Norton last night with an extremely cool and beautiful drummer but no-one will ever match the coolest and most beautiful singer/drummer of them all.....June Miles-Kingston *sigh*

  • Terry sung it how it should have been sung. The Go-Gos version isn't dark enough.

  • This is a really great song. And performed superbly

  • Terry has a Cure look going on. Just needs to smear on some lipstick.

  • Terry was so hot!

  • I have to say this is awesome even though I'm not into 80s nostalgia. Just a f**kin great tune. Better here live than the album version.

  • Time to stop crying try Naughty women mworld5.info

  • Actuly real musisions. What a great song!

  • HONKY! THE DUMB!!! ARE BORING!!!

  • @mrmikespence1964 good song though mate

  • hindley on drums

  • Awesome

  • everybodys hates chris

  • The cello player looks like she belongs in a horror movie.

  • LoveThis. Thank you

  • I'm more familiar with the Go Gos, obviously, but I like this version too.

  • Trainspotting sent me here. I love this version of the song, I could listen to it over and over! It's very addicting...like other things.. :P

  • Its the first time i heard this song, and boy I liked it. It has a dark tone to it.

  • Oh man, this song makes me want to drink Dran-O

  • Let the truth shine thru silence....

  • A beautiful song, whether it's done by the darker Fun Boy Three or The Go Go's...

  • June on the drums is a babe.!!!

  • @staffsmole She seems to have played with a number of groups,?,I knew about the Communards, but I swear I just saw her on Fearghal Sharkey's Someone to Somebody?..

  • i got lost and ended up here

terry was top man in the specials and ok in this - but the girls of the 80's wow i miss those days

    great song
