I remember seeing something similar used for a 3d platform game. It was in the late 90's and looked less bulky than the equipment on this video. It stated that it reads 'brain waves' and can assign a particular wave to an in game action. So a brain wave provoked by the thought of jumping could theoretically be assigned to the in game action of jumping.
