I just stumbled across this review & wanted to leave a comment. JR is one of my favorite authors. I'm a big fan of adventure books & JR is just amazing in his style of writing. He really is great at bringing together science facts, historical facts, science fiction etc. Map of Bones was the first JR book that I had read, but now I've read them all & they are great. He has some other books that you may like to read, that don't focus on a religious aspects.
Totally with you on that. He loses me a bit at first, but I can always slide into his stories due to the science being mixed with action, mystery, and great historical points. Judas Strain was my first JR book, and now I've read them all. Sucks...at least another book is coming out in June. :)
I've read them all too, and I can't wait for the next one. If you like this type of adventure story you should try Jeremy Robinson's book Antarktos Rising. It's similar with mixing science and biblical history with a fantasy type story. Jeremy Robinson is a big fan of Rollins and Rollins recomends Robinson! lol Maybe that can tide you over until the next Rollins book comes out. I'm waiting on two more of his books from amazon to tide me over. ;)
I'm thinking of getting the kids books too, but I actually have kids so I can play it off like it's for them... :) I'm now waiting on Kronos from Jeremy Robinson, from amazon, so I hope that's as good as it looks from the description. You should try, if you haven't already, "Napoleon's Pyramids" and "The Rosetta Key" by William Dietrich.
@anit1983 There's really nothing wrong with owning books like that. I am a teacher and love Mattew Reillys' books. He released Hover Car Racer which was one entire book in Australia, however when it came to the US, it was converted into three childrens' pre teen books. One should not hide the child within otherwise the innocence will be gone for a long time.
I wonder what James' religious views actually are. People don't need faith to believe in things though, I can see why it would bother you. There is so much to life, but life doesn't need to be dependent one one thing.
I think he's Catholic, not sure though. quite a bit of respect for Christianity in general shone through, so I'd bet he was some form of very open minded Christian. And I do mean VERY open minded. The amount of science he had in there was really impressive and most of it contradicting the bible.
I get the feeling that most Christians don't really believe a single word in the Bible. Why they still call themselves Christians I don't know. I know I firmly took back that title but how can I tell my grandmother I am not? Actually my family is friends will all the priests in our general area... and just the other day they asked me at dinner where I thought the church was headed and a priest was sitting next to me. I burst out laughing but it was an awkward moment.
I think it is cute that James would be a Catholic though. I really like it when men have faith, it is an attractive quality to me... but when they go all crazy and start trying to convert everything with 2 legs... well that is a no no for me.
but you know what is an equally attractive quality, an atheist who stands against religion for all it's bad qualities, but they also have to be really enthusiastic about something else, being happy and positive in a sexy rebellious sort of way against religion... so I'd take that kind of atheist or a tolerant believer...
Enthusiastic about what kind of thing? Like a cause (ending poverty, volenteer work things like that) or enthusiastic about a hobby? (Sorry, being nosey is in my nature.)
@ErinAlicestrof I'm a born again believer and find books likw these intersting. I think a person who transcends his beliefs and looks at other alternate realities as I call it is far more attractive than an atheist who does that. That means his or her mind is far more open than anyone elses and is more tolerable to live with.
