  • I didn't drop by to talk politics. This snippet simply shows the Duke as a conscientious, considerate man aware he has flubbed a line. Director Preminger sounds reasonable and sympathetic, too. Wayne wasn't far removed from his lung cancer surgery, where he lost a lung. Cut him some slack here. Love him or hate him, you should admit he was a great film actor and among the top 20 box office stars for over 25 years, too! Would a Christian Bale or Russell Crowe be so humble on a set today?

  • Jhn Wayne, an American icon. When I look at the stars and stripes the first person I think of is The Duke.

  • The 3 dislikes must be Sean Penn fans.

  • @thallassocracy, wtf?? You call being married to three Latina women gay?!? What planet are you from pilgrim?

  • John Wayne was a great, great man, and he had morals and values to which all good people could aspire to.

Modern day Hollywood actors are nothing but fluffy perverts with no morals or values that young folk can aspire to emulate.

The world is a sadder place since his passing.

  • @DunlopDaytona Yeah but he was also a racist so...

  • @MNLN123 Um, no he wasn't. And many Native Americans who he had dealings with would disagree with you too.

The Racist BS is yet more liberal lies spread in yet another vain attempt to besmirch a great American and true Conservative.

  • Filmed aboard the ship my father served on during World War 2, the USS ST. PAUL

CA-73. The last war we ever won by the way. Thank you dad. I miss you.

  • thats ole ottos voice saying don vorry veal do it haygin

  • John Wayne is the sh*t! Before you're a gentleman you've gotta be a man and John Wayne never missed on those counts! A great American patriot. He was a doll.

  • One of the first gay heroes - and still the greatest.

  • @thallassocracy he was married to 3 different women if thats was gay is then geez

  • Patricia Neal just passed away at 84. She was so good in this. I wish i could have met a nurse like her when I was in the service!

  • A nice little moment that kind of shows a modest, human side.

  • Anyone ever watched The Sons of Katie Elder? Wayne in the final showdown, like firing his sixshooter thriteen or fourteen times without reloading. THAT's a blooper, if I ever saw one!

  • @Daniel4646 he just reloaded so fast that you couldn't see him do it.

  • As if they had speedloaders in the Wild West. And reloading a six-shooter takes up time as you have to insert the bullets one by one. And if you've watched the film, Wayne does definetly all shooting, no loading.

  • @Daniel4646 I have that movie on video,but never really noticed,good point...

  • He messed up in a hilarious way!!!!!!!!!

  • The set of The Conqueror was colocated with a nuclear test site, radioactive dust eventually gave everyone cancer. What radiocactive dust didn't do cigerettes did thereafter.

Bogart was a well known, proud of it (!) drunk lit up by brunch daily. 53 wasn't too old for any part, HIS 53 was too burnt out to be alive past 57. He looked 75.

Check Michael Emerson at 55 from "Lost" or Shatner in Star Trek IV for what 55 can look like. Hardly kids, but still....

  • @Yourdeadmeat69 William Shatner looks amazing for his age...He must eat alot of blueberries...

  • John Wayne in great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) at amazon!

  • Almost 100 of the 200 people involved in making "The Conqueror", including Wayne, Suzan Hayward, and director Dick Powell died from cancer. They filmed in an area used for A-bomb testing and even hauled truck loads of soil back to a Hollywood sound stage so the backgroung would match up.

  • My mother died from lung cancer after 50 years of heavy smoking so I know a little about that. However, smoking doesn't explain 50% of the crew dying from cancer.

  • Half the cast of The Caine Mutiny died of cancer too.

  • Bogart had cancer, undiagnosed, before filming ever began.

  • I'm not surprised. I did wonder why they cast 53-year-old Bogart at all, since Queeg was meant to be a first-time captain.

  • Richard Widmark was chosen for the part but the producer, Stanley Kramer, insisted on Bogart despite opposition because of the age issue. "Mutiny" was the highest grossing move at Columbia up to that time so it was a good choice, not to mention that Bogart wanted the part so badly that he worked for less money rhan his normal salary.

  • They should have made Queeg a veteran capatin who had served in World War I, it didn't make sense that he'd been an ensign only a few years earlier.

  • PFF: I haven't seen this one in a while, but isn't Queeg previously a ship's capt somewhere else on another type of ship before he came to the Caine?

  • I only saw the film once, perhaps Queeg was transferred from another ship. Either way, Bogart (though a great actor) was far too old for the part.

  • @PeterFirthFan he still put in a great performance though...

  • ObamaRules4Ever -is an ignorant bastard--he thinks that everybody who has cancer is a bad person--and he is stupid and insensitive--oh, like we supposed to hate John Wayne bcause he had cancer--how idiotic is he--you know by his statements he is a young kid--because adults would not make such stupid--statements--like oh, he got cancer--let's put him down--nothing this dude says--makes any common sense

and his accounts should be permanently closed

  • He did bring it on himself though.

  • this is my favorite john wayne movie of all. in this little clip he steps out of character because he's concerned and wants to get it just perfect. later when he talks to his son for the last time, it's very moving.

  • One of the Duke's best movies. He really should have gotten Academy Award consideration. Probably would have if the Academy wasn't a nesting ground for ultra liberals. The one bad thing about this movie was the use of the models for the naval battles. I read somewhere that Kirk Douglas was pissed at their use and called them cheesy. I'd have to agree. Aside of that however, this is one of my top 5 JW movies of all time.

  • @fatdogtavern

It is ALSO said that the Duke thought the ships looked like toys...............

  • @fatdogtavern I guess the models do look kinda fake, but I guess they did their best with the budget they had. One of Wayne's best, he's so natural here.

  • @fatdogtavern I thought it was an under-rated war movie...it had a great all-star cast...

  • I hated to see Burgess ( The Penguin ) die in this movie.

  • Another good Duke blooper is in "North to Alaska". Ernie Kovacs punches him in the face and his hat flies off and you can actually see (for about a second or two) his bald head! Either he wasn't wearing his toupee under his hat or the punch knocked it off with his hat.

  • You're all a bunch of goons. Arguing for 7 pages of comments, telling each other how gay the Duke was or how much of a patriot he was. Don't you have anything better to do?

  • Wayne had lung cancer in this film.

  • "HarveyCartwright" aka HarveyCarter aka JohnRogersly is a TROLL banned from Wikipedia. He wants you to argue with him. Just click "bad comment" and then ignore him. Ask the video poster to block him too. For more info google:

"User talk:Rodhullandemu/Harvey Carter" and "Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of HarveyCarter"

Check the sock puppet "Sponge417". His real name is EVAN PEACOCK, a teenager from HILTON, NY, USA.

  • When did John Wayne ever say he was a war hero...When did anyone say he was a war hero..He was an actor who made alot of people happy ...if u dont like him dont watch his films ...NUMPTYS

  • @hotpink910 also fuck u , u ugly twat.lol u look like like a scarecrow....

haha ur skinny lifeless face,i bet u hate mirrors..

  • john wayne was a true patriot. How many wars did tom hanks fight in? or any other modern day actor who was in a war movie? John wayne was a real man, and he did his job and HELPED people by doing it. do you know one solider who would dare listen to you two jarb about the duke with beating your asses, pilgram? i didnt think so? When you come to a john wayne video and mock the duke, you are just asking for trouble. And i'm talking the kind of trouble from the end of Jay and silent bob strike back.

  • well ass wipe, come on over. If you were in the gulf war, you would know it was spelled G-U-L-F. You tell me to go fuck my self, how 'bout i come to what ever po-dunk bush supporting hole in the wall peice of shit town it is you live in and fuck YOU! right in the ass right in your little vfw hall so that all of the veterans you claim to know can watch as they drool over there mash taters. FUCK YOU MAN! it's called acting for a reason you red state supporting ignorant hick. "gulf war". ha ha

  • Good one. Spike is probably Spike lee

  • do you bend over all the time or get on your knees Spike

  • come over and find out ass wipe.

  • probushprolife if you are so embarassed to be an american...get the hell out...and you mrh1956 crawl back into your hole and pull the other one in with you its americans

like you two that give others bad names, that is even if you are one

  • don't mess with probushprolife, he's a "war hero" IN the G-U-L-P-H war and all.

  • kind of sounds like you know a little bit about that bending over

  • Just like you and your high school coach.

  • john wayne is great, enjoyed every single one of his movies

  • we loved Wayne here in Britain...his movies was and still are on most sunday afternoons and cant understand why ive read a few bad comments about him

  • @mal334455 He made a good movie in Great Britain called Brannigan.that would have been in '74..

  • It is common knowledge that Wayne couldn't get in the military because he couldn't pass the physical....But why couldn't he insist on being placed in a job that didn't require any physical stress? Maybe an administrative desk job? That would have inspired the American public much more than his crappy movies in which he was a pretend soldier.

In a nutshell, Wayne was just a pussy.

    Now, Elvis Presley.....he had balls.

  • I dont call going to a Warzone to entertain thetroops with the U.S.O. the act of a Pussy. Try some of these faggity hollywood types nowadays for that, like Jane Fonda, Tim Robbins, Martin Sheen or Sean Penn. Now those are complete pieces of Human Shit. Yes, Elvis had the balls to serve, but Duke suffered a football injury in college that kept him out of the service. It didnt stop him from going to see the troops, Or painting the troops in a good light on screen, Unlike most 80's War films.

  • What decade are you living in? The 1980s were almost 3 decades ago. Besides 80's war films were largely about the Vietnam War which was also a complete waste of human life and resources that could have been spent right here in the USA. And if you haven't realized it yet, today's films are based on realism....you know REALITY. Not some fictionalized, romanticized version of what actually happened. That is what Wayne "the Puke's" films were based in, fantasy. Get over it COWBOY!

  • Yes your right 80's War films were largly based on the Vietnam War, and from a Liberal's Perspective on that war. They all watch like they are being told to us by Hanoi Jane and Crew. and 90% of them painted the Veteran in a bad light. Dope Smoking psychopathic alcoholics. I am not a fool, i know some of that went on but your talking about a Minority. Hollywood made out like it was a Majority. That was a disservice to the veterans. Today's film's? You mean that tripe Stop-Loss?! Or Stones movie?

  • If you hate the Duke so much then why are you here voicing your nasty rhetoric? Ever heard the phrase "cant say nothing nice, don't say anything at all?" I can appreciate a civil debate, but pal, you are anything but civil. You sound like that Difaggio in disguise. Tell me that it's not true. Wouldn't surprise me though, you liberal's are always hiding behind something crying foul. F.Y.I i live in the 21st century, You obviously live in the land of Oz. Have some more Kool-Aid, Oh Yeah!

  • I have the right to voice my opinion. Do you know what the American Constitution is? Unlike conservatives, I believe that all citizens have the right to voice their opposition to issues and live their lives as they wish. Your president George WTF Bush wants to pass Constitutional amendments to exclude people of their legal US birth rights.

Furthermore back to your point....if you don't realize....you are the person who began this debate. Is dementia finally setting in, old fogy?

  • Sure voice an opposition, BUT BE CIVIL about it. You sit there and talk smack about a great man that is dead, knowing that he cant speak for himself, or defend himself. It's not polite to speak ill of the dead. Ok, you dont agree with us about him being a great man. You have made you point abundantly clear, NOW SHUT THE FUCK UP! Leave a dead man alone. It's Real brave to talk smack behind a computer screen so don't let your battleship mouth overload your Rowboat ass. You might just get Sunk!

  • LordBicen: I sorry to have offended you so badly. I just wanted to start an open debate about how dangerous it is to idolize any person because all humans are open to having faults and imperfections.

I didn't think I was being un-civil, but I guess I am wrong with that assumption also.

    Best regards.

  • @LordBicen John Wayne didn't serve in World War 2 for 2 reasons.First,he was encouraged to make movies to help domestic morale rather than serve in active combat, and secondly,he was afraid that he would lose his star status that he had worked so hard to achieve and have to start over. However,he visited troops in Vietnam and almost got blown up because of it,so I would hardly call him a coward....

  • @Robo1415 never called Duke a Coward, so i dont know where your coming from.

  • @LordBicen I DIDN'T SAY YOU CALLED HIM A COWARD.SOMEONE ON THIS THREAD DID HOWEVER.MY REMARK WAS AIMED AT THEM.WAYNE HAD GUTS IN A LOT OF WAYS AND WAS ONE OF THE MOST ADMIRABLE ACTORS OF HIS TIME.I DO NOT THINK HE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT MUCH OF PEOPLE LIKE OBAMA....

  • and pelvis was drafted numb nuts.

  • I love john wayne movies

  • There's a lot of big talk going on around here. Make that big typing.

I lean liberal and I don't much like how this has turned into a political bout. The Duke's films are paramount to the history of film, and he himself is an icon on decent values. That has nothing to do with whether or not I'm liberal, conservative, communist, or ignorant. None of us knew the Duke personally; we only know him from his great film legacy, and that's damn good enough.

And for the record, I'm not American either.

  • The only thing a person could conclude after watching this video is Wayne's bloopers were no different from his acting. They both sucked.

Pretend soldier + pretend cowboy + pretend hero = Brainwashed fans?

    So very sad.

  • John Wayne was an ACTOR. Not a hero.

He NEVER wore an actual uniform, only pretend ones.

While he PLAYED a soldier and lived a life of luxury in Hollywood, the real heros of this country served and died to protect people like him.

    Get over it COWBOYS.

  • He wanted to serve, he couldn't. A football injury in college kept him out of the service. So he did what he could for the soldiers that served, and visited them overseas with the U.S.O. He Was a Hero because he inspired, isn't that what heroes do? Inspire others to be better and climb higher, to reach out for the unreachable and attain it?

Just what the hell have you done with your life? And dont say you served because if that were true you wouldnt be a Duke basher, Dick head.

  • Exactly, how did John 'The Puke' Wayne and his shitty acting inspire anyone to achieve greatness? Could you explian that in clear terms and give me some examples?

And since you mentioned my life, I'll let you know that my one son is now finishing up his residency and will be specializing in pediatric medicine. My other son is in his third year of undergraduate study in biomedical engineering at Drexel University.

So, did I do a good job inspiring anyone to achive for things high?

  • cockholster

  • @Dimaggio396 John Wayne was pretty good at his craft of acting. He may not have lived all the ideals that he portrayed on screen, but he epitomized(in his acting)the traditional American ideals of self-reliance,patriotism and courage..

  • @Robo1415 I'm not American, but when I think in your country, I think in John Wayne.

  • @frustrado So Do We...Thanks

  • My father did his basic training at the Schoefield in Hawaii prior to be shipped directly to Korea in 1950. During that time, John Wayne was making a film called Operation Pacific. Wayne walked into a service man's bar filled with army soldiers and was immediately greated like a king. Wayne's response was to buy the entire bar full several rounds before he left. Class act.

No one in Hollywood does stuff like that anymore. God Bless the Duke.

  • I believe that he and a few other actors were not drafted because they used to sale war bonds and for moral support in the US. He would latter claim that a football injury kept him from serving. There were cases where active duty members wanted to fight him to see if he was as tough as he acted in his movies.

  • Holy Shit a life like yours, with no mythical heroes must suck, Did it ever occur to you people look up to him because he offered an escape from their humdrum lives? do you know why my mother watches his films religiously? because The Duke and my Grandfather had a striking resemblance and for two hours she gets to listen and watch and be reminded of her daddy. would you be willing to crush her happiness? maybe, just maybe in this crazy world, an imaginary hero can bring as much joy as a real one

  • Ask any man in uniform if he gives a rat's ass that Wayne didn't serve. He was a hell of an actor and a great American. At least he wasn't a commie and a traitor like most of the crew in Hollyweird.

If I only went to movies of actors I liked as people or whose politics I agreed with, I'd never go. Denzel Washington's and that's about it.

  • It's funny you say that. Because I went to a local VFW recently to have a beer with my father who served in Korea and the topic of John 'The Puke' Wayne came up. The ENTIRE place, filled with REAL veterans, had the opinion that Wayne was just a pathetic soldier want-to-be.

And if you actually re-wathced his movies, you would see that his acting actually SUCKED and would never hold-up to the acting standards of today.

  • Where the hell is that VFW? The guys I know applaud him.

Re the acting, that's crap. Quote "He was also marvelously subtle actor, capable of conveying great tenderness and humanity through the smallest gestures, his face registering layers upon layers of thought, but he could also be elemental and volcanic: his raging Ethan Edwards in The Searchers is one of the greatest acting achievements in all of film."

  • Not to mention his performance in Red River, or as Sergeant Stiker in Sands of Iwo Jima. Duke had as many layers as a diamond has Sparkles. The closest we have now to the Duke in Hollywood would probably be Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliot or Tom Selleck. But even they are a far cry from Duke. (R.I P.)

  • Besides...it is widly known that the Duke was NOT ALLOWED INTO THE MILITARY because he had a few moments of weakness when in the men's locker room, if you get my drift.

  • Like a diamond has sparkles.

What are you a Broadway show costume maker?

Probably, after all the Duke was a queer too.

That is why he never made the cut for the Military.

So forget the diamonds....it's more like a sequin evening gown and a feather boa.

  • Ya know, i could sit here and debate the finer points of the dukes carreer but that would be a waste of my time and a waste of my energy on a pig like you. And judging by your many Duke hating posts, you obviously are nothing more than an armchair quarterback that has done absolutely nothing with your life except offer your asinine remarks. Your just a fucking troll. Besides Arguing on youtube is like Competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, your Still retarded.

  • Yes debating here is a waste of time....not unlike watching one of Wayne's movies.

I quess that is why you are so fucking stupid. Sitting alone in your dark room dreaming of some cowboy fantasy world...where America is always right...and everyone who is not white is just one of the "little brown people"...Waynes observation of the Fillipinos while filming some usless movie about WWII.

Too bad he wasn't around to star in Brokeback Mountain. Maybe they can did up his courpse for the sequel.

  • Ya know for someone that hates America so damned much you sure do enjoy a lot of the freedoms this country has provided you. I'd like to see just how fucking brave you'd be to go over seas to North Korea or Iran and spout your rhetorical crap. You wouldnt last 10 minutes before being shot, dragged through the streets to the town square where they chop off your head. You dont realize just how good you got it here. And for your Information, Wayne was a Big advocate for Native American's Rights.

  • Just because I make remarks about your unusual love for another man makes me un-American?

    That's a stretch even for a numb-nut like you.

Have you ever heard the quote:

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism"?

Ya, know by Thomas Jefferson....if you could actually know who he is.

Wayne was just an actor in a costume; A pretend soldier. There were many real patriots before him and after.

    Most never got any recognition.

He profited from his high profile and died a rich man.

  • Thanks LordBicen for supporting the Duke....this jerk Dimaggio doesn't know a thing about his life and how his deeds impacted American society.

    Bravo to you.

  • My dad and i used to sit and Watch his movies all the time before he passed away. I have a lot of Fond memories of that, and this Difaggio bastard wouldn't make a good freckle on Dukes ass, and he knows it. I consider him an EMPTY BEER can and i'll toss his ass over my shoulder just like the rest of his pinky liberal friends.

  • whats with the john wayne hate? what did he ever do to you? are you talking about his military controversy that happened 60+ years ago? If so, who the fuck cares? Why do you still hold a grudge? He's a better man then you'll ever be, that's for sure. I'm black and I respect this guy. Go fuck yourself.

  • A better man than I'll ever be? Who are you to assume anything about me? Should I assume things about you because you are black? Besides, I am entitled to my own opinion just like you. If I believe that it's pathetic and sad that people still worship Wayne, I have every right to voice my observation.

And by the way I am Native American Indian.

  • this is cool! "I'm not doin as well am i?" hehe!

  • And Patricia Neal had her poker face battened down hard, not wanting to laugh!

  • We are all human. Nobody is perfect. The "DUKE" is still KING.

  • You got that right!!

  • oh yeah! he will always be King!
